The nut is tack welded into place. It's not removeable. Just unbolt top and bottom ,then slide your new shock into place and reattach bolts, cut the strap and you are golden. Torque you bolts to 85 ft lbs. 😅

I bought some Rough Country 2 1/2" Vertex 8-stage adjustable piggy back shocks for my 2014 Chevy Silverado with a 6" lift. The aluminum bushings on top and bottom don't fit back into the fixed bracket on the truck. Can I just bend them about 3/16" so then the top and bottom slots will slide into place. I ended up trying what I mentioned above and it worked like a charm. It took alittle strength but got r done. This process will not affect the mounts, will it? Other than the obstacle I occurred, it's ab easy job.

I think you installed the bilsteins upside down. I hear the boot goes on the bottom. I could be wrong but that’s what I’ve seen on other videos.
@AaronHinesAuto5 жыл бұрын
They do not go on the bottom. Do you have a link to this video?
@cassian725 жыл бұрын
I did a search for bilstein 5100 and (don’t have the link) two or three videos the guys said bilstein said the body of the shock goes on top and the boot goes on the bottom. I’ve been really wanting to buy these and I plan to install myself so I’m curious to know what’s right. I downloaded the manual from bilstein and it wasn’t helpful.
@AaronHinesAuto5 жыл бұрын
From what I have read it can be mounted up or boot side down. Seems they can go either way. The eyelets are the same diameter so that part doesn’t matter. Thanks for the info!
@GORESLAM775 жыл бұрын
Per Junior, a Bilstein racing parts specialist, he says that the Bilstein logo is intended to never be upside down. If the logo is ever upside down, the shocks are installed incorrectly. For the 5100 series rear shocks that means the boots go down toward the road. Just some info for you all.

I'm experiencing excessive fish-tailing specifically in the rear of my '15 Sierra A/T when I drive over a caliche road that has tractor tire tread indentations on it. It doesn't matter if I go 10, 20, 30mph its still a white-knuckle experience and the whole truck bounces like crazy. I bought it about a month ago, noticed it has rancho shocks on it that i think are likely original shocks for this upgraded package that the previous owner customized at the dealership. It has 77k on it, I do haul wood and bags of concrete at times and honestly it rides like a DREAM when the shocks are fully compressed under load even with an additional 300lbs in the bed. It feels sturdy, grounded, and secure then. Also on pavement it feels great for the usual takeoffs, lane changes etc but when I turn and hit a dip there is plenty of bottoming followed by a sharp jolt back up coming from the coilover shocks. Any idea what I can do? I dont know if i should bag it, 4-link it, or just upgrade to Fox, King, or higher-end Bilsteins. It's not lifted and I dont plan to. I'm just curious as to your thoughts and if you (or anyone reading) have any recommendations and if my assumption of "they need replacing before I die" is true lol. Thanks

Hi Sammy, not sure if you found the answer but I have 2018 gmc sierra with only 30k kms, my truck bounces of the speed beakers like crazy, on highway speeds it bounces on road indentations like it has no shocks, it had rancho shocks which in my opinion should not even be called shocks, i have upgraded front ones this week with bilstein 4600 24-238281 model and let me tell you it has made day and night difference with ride quality, i am changing rear ones next week as well. good luck

So if I installed the Bill Steen shocks on my 2018 Silverado 1500 4x4 I can raise the vehicle up two inches front and rear? Sounds like a good way to add stability and increase the height? What do these shocks cost and is the front application as easy as the rear? I have a 2 1/2 inch level kit installed in the front of my truck already, would this affect anything? Do you plan on doing a video on the front installation anytime soon? Being unfamiliar with this type of thing could you recommend the model numbers ? Liked and subscribed Thank you

No, it will not lift the rear of the vehicle. All it does is allow the shock to extend further and compensate for any rear lift you may have installed. Basically keeps the shock from bottoming out if you have any lift in the rear.

@@blazeone1266 it's probably the center nut on the top of the strut. Very common with these shocks. I guess what happens is that you have to tighten a little more than most people do. Careful not to break it though, as I did. Seems a lot of people have the knocking and banging over small bumps and this seems to be the only fix.
