I just want to say thanks - did this exact thing on my 2013 GM1500 and the transmission pan came out with minimal fuss. Learned from this very video. It actually works. I watched many a KZbin video where they struggled for 20 minutes, jacked up the transmission, used bottle jacks and blocks, etc, but none worked as nice as this. Some even gave up and cleaned, drained the pan in place. The only difference with mine is that, because I do not have a hoist and a big drain, I used a MityVac to vacuum out the fluid from the pan once I'd done the first crack of the gasket. I had a little laugh when the pan came out after 10 seconds of wiggling.

I saw another KZbinr who did not use the rachet strap on the exhaust pipe. Instead, he lowered the trans pan just enough to get the filter out. This gave him enough clearance to then sneak the pan past the exhaust cross pipe. This was, however, on a 2020 Suburban (6L80E transmission "Easy pan removal") so I don't know how different that would be from a 2010 Silverado.

I just took the bolts on the shallow end off first and the next 2 on each side then loosened the ones on the side till they only had about 2 or 3 threads engaged... The 3 on the deep side I slowly loosened controlling the flow of fluid that poured out the shallow end... Finally had all bolts off pulled filter out and just let it drop in the pan on its side.. Good tip on the ratchet straps. I have a 2017 LTZ Crew Cab standard bed not 4 wheel drive. When you have the pan off why not just cut & add a drain plug to the pan? Yes a little more work but if you're going to have the truck for a good length of time & want to do this filter/fluid change adding a drain plug would help on the draining of the fluid & then your tip on the pan removal. I'm just curious.I've seen several of these videos and it seems no matter what the year of the truck or model, all these GMC trucks are basically the same. My 2018 Escalade looks like that and the pan is a bear to remove and all the videos seem to come up with one method or another of forcing that exhaust pipe down. Is that how they do it at the dealers? If that is the case it makes for some really dumb engineering and design. You would think that things that require regular service should be easily accessible. I try to do what I can in terms of service because I hate taking my trucks to the dealer. I have taught myself through many you tube videos from folks like you who share your knowledge and experience. Thank you!! They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing but when I see the kinds of greenhorns they have at the dealer doing an oil change on my almost $100,000 truck, well I'll take the chance on performing that service myself. Not to get too side tracked, so when you force that exhaust, pipe which is fairly rigid, are you Not compromising the seals or the unions? It's not particularly flexible.

A flushing machine leaves the old filter in the transmission. Changing fluid this way leaves a torque converter full of old fluid. So, probably the best way is to drop the pan, install a new filter, then flush the transmission. You don't need a flush machine though, just unhook the cooler line to the radiator, start the engine and add trans fluid until it comes out new and clear. But really, just doing what's illustrated in this video is good enough. Many many transmissions go hundreds of thousands of miles and are NEVER serviced.
