How come this video does not show what happens on the next play. The fans got even louder, and O'Donnell complained again. They Ref just looked at him, and then called the Jets for a delay of game. There was never a penalty on Detroit. This was the loudest game I have ever been too, and the quietest game as well. This was the game Barry went over 2000 yrds in, and also the game the Reggie Brown got paralyzed in for Detroit. I was at the other end of the Silverdome, at the top .. and I could hear the ambulance door close.

I was there too. Most exhilarating pro sports event of my life. I remember when the ref threw the flag, we thought it was on the Lions following the warning. Elation when they announced delay of game on the Jets. In addition to all of that you mention, I recall how the replay of Johnnie Morton's touchdown to win the game clearly showed he was out of bounds and bobbling the ball. Didn't have instant replay then (or wasn't available). Also, I believe a fan died of a heart attack in the stands during this game.

@joetroy95386 жыл бұрын
I was at this game. The crowd was deafening for most of the game. Playoffs on the line for both teams and Barry was going for 2000 yards. The only thing that killed the crowd noise was the injury to Reggie Brown a Lions LB. He broke his neck and his air way started to swell shut. I will never forget Morten sprinting 80 yards to get the paramedics. Reggie survived because the Lions had the best medical staff in the NFL and Reggie was up walking the next day. Although he never played a down again in the NFL he was fortunate to recover and be able to walk. Barry got his 2000 yards and the Lions beat the Tuna and went on to the playoffs. The Silverdome when full was as rowdy as any stadium in the world. It's slated to be demolished this spring and I have a ton of fond memories as a 28 year season ticket holder. Ford field will never come close to the atmosphere at the Silverdome. The Lions don't have home field advantage and haven't since leaving Pontiac. It makes me laugh when people talk about crowd noise at Ford field. It's full of a bunch of millennial and yuppy fans.... The Silverdome was always full of blue collar workers who would spend their money to sit in the mammoth upper deck when the Lions had something worth buying. It was a mother fucking house party like no other. RIP Silverdome.

@kristopherloviska9042 Жыл бұрын
It wasn't a Monday night game. (The first hint would be that it was on NBC, who didn't do Monday Night Football) It was the final Sunday of the regular season. Barry went over 2000 yards for the season and Reggie Brown was taken off the field in an ambulance because he was suffering from respiratory arrest due to a spinal injury in his neck. I was working for the NBC broadcast that day, as an RF pointer for the wireless handheld cameraman on the Lions sideline. That game had both the loudest crowd noise (Barry's 53 yard run to clinch the win), and the quietest crowd when they were doing CPR on Brown before they loaded him onto the ambulance on the field) I have ever heard at a sporting event.

When the right and fired up type of Detroit crowd shows up, especially at the Silverdome or the Palace, THIS HAPPENS! We are a weapon, just ask the 2004 Lakers! Silverdome crowds were smart, loud, and knew when to bust the roof off. But folks, the 2000's Piston games at the Palace, were LOUDER THAN THIS. I left out of playoff game with a sound concussion. But we don't have those type of crowds or fans anymore, we have CORPORATE CUSTOMERS NOW, and our teams still suck!

This is how a crowd can impact a game. Niel O'Donnell burned timeouts because of the noise. Barry had that huge run at the end that took them past the 2 minute warning and Detroit was able to kneel on the ball since New York didn't have any timeouts left to stop the clock.

Up until 2010, stadiums weren't allowed to put "pump it up" or "get louder" or anything like that on the screen. Some teams would actually play artificial crowd noise through the PA speakers, which is originally why the rule was made. And the players and coaches are cry babies and would threaten to strike over anything back then. It wasn't until the mid 2000's that the threat to strike actually went down.

I’m wondering if The Who in 1975 there was louder.
