The most melodic chord progression (2:20) I heard in my life. I have to praise the rhythm guitarist for knowing how to execute the progression at the right time. 👏👏👏

Idk about you guys, but personally, I would LOVE to see a music video for this, fully animated, telling the story told in this song. A great ship, sailing through the waters, looking for new land with more resources, and the excited crew, becoming angry over time and overthrowing their captain. And the video ends with the ship, tattered and broken, with a dead crew on the shore of a new beautiful and vibrant land. Nothing but a shipwreck in the sand.

lol the song is about a marriage that failed;the album is about a man who loves his girlfriend but on their wedding day he finds out his girl has been cheating on him with his best friend; so he burns their house down, but he can't live without her or his daughter so he goes into the house to save them, and ends up killing himself, this song on the album is the marriage "union" being broken, , (captain/crew = husband/best friend) and the ship is the marriage's bond between the husband and wife

Holy crap... This entire time I was envisioning more like a DND perspective. The captain being the literal crew an NPC was, his crew being the ones that betrayed him. Idk I always envisioned everything about it so differently, I've been wrong all these years. 😂

Im not sure why everyone thinks this song is about man destroying the planet, Ive always thought of it as a metaphor for a relationship or a marriage, where in the beginning everything's good, but as time goes by "there's no gold to be found" they have money issues and end up getting a divorce, but one of them doesn't want to, and the song is from his/her perspective. "the crew throws the captain overboard" "this union, a battle fought and lost" etc.. i dunno, maybe its both? maybe neither? thats the great thing about music, it can be whatever you want it to be
@xShadowBrowniex

I think its a combination of the two, Silverstein are enviromental activists, yet i feel they use their phrases as a double entendre. For example, "before the rivers and lakes were polluted..." I feel they are making a statement about current circumstances of the planet, yet they also mean "before all our insecurities and betrayals ruined a once perfect relationship"
@daleychale01

You are correct about the marriage metaphor as the whole album is a concept album about a failing marriage where the husband is being hunted by the law for burning down their house. Its actually a fantastic album. My favourite Silverstein album

I'm seeing this, and, man, it makes me so happy your discovering this. Whether you've heard Silverstein before or not, I j need you to know you commenting this made me happy, idk if you appreciate that or not, but, idk, I've listened to Silverstein since before I popped out the womb, my mom went to a concert pregnant with me, and on their 15th anniversary tour, when I was 15, I went and saw them at bogart's, the same place my mom saw them when I was still inside her, and idk, maybe it was because I grew up listening to every album as soon as it was released, or because of that, but, I love these guys so much their shit has always hit me on a different level, you appreciating this, has made me appreciate it again at 17 years old, even more, for the billionth time, and, idk, I appreciate it, thank you. I'm a drummer and aspiring song writer so this type of shit makes me happy, anything you haven't listened to yet, do it. Ik alot of old comments go unseen and this one probably will too, but anyone who gets the chance to just listen to random songs from every album the understand every album they make , is a book, it needs to be played from front to back in one sitting, needs to do it. Idk, I'm rambling, just listen, a complete stranger, the people I'm closest to, I could never say this to and hope for an understanding, just, try, and, know, that I would never put anything bad into the world, especially considering the positivity yoga brought me now, I want only the best for you, check out anything you havent heard from them, and then, go check out front to back the 18 candles album and the ep before, I wont steer you wrong. I couldnt.

"A Shipwreck In The Sand" Once upon a time Before the lakes and rivers were polluted Before the animals were poached to extinction And before man had destroyed the earth's atmosphere There was a great ship. This vessel was to venture into new waters To find new resources, to make life easier and more enjoyable. It was a simple mission for the crew Who were excited to be a part of this union They pledged their allegiance to the captain And vowed to be there no matter what In sickness, health, and possible death As time passed by, there was no new land to be found As the days grew shorter And the nights grew longer and colder The crew became more and more skeptical about the captain's vision Originally passionate and committed true and faithful They now began to revolt. You crossed the line I was honest I never promised anything Just a brotherhood to stand for something And everyone should take the lead Follow your dreams If you don't try, you fail As the mutiny started and the captain was overthrown and chained He asked them why their minds had changed There's no gold to be found, no treasure in the ground We won't die for this We won't die for you You've lost your minds I was honest I never promised anything Just a brotherhood to stand for something And even if they disagree Follow your dreams If you don't try, you fail. This dream is now A shipwreck in the sand They gave up, they made all their demands The storm consumed fifty seven souls Who died in vain, his love they stole This union, a battle fought and lost This union is not about the cause This union was never about love This union [x2] This union, a battle fought and lost This union is not about the cause The union was never about love This union [x2] This union, a battle fought and lost This union was about about the cause This union was never about a love

If you do your reasearch this is a concept album based off a story that Shane wrote where he wanted to focus on some world issues, such as US and Canadian health care (the song Born Dead) and still stay on a good story line (I Knew I Couldn't Trust You) is about the protagonist of the story finding out his wife is cheating on him with his best friend, so this song is probably a good combination of enviornmental issue and the protagonists relationship being destroyed

That is my rule for life now. It wasn't a couple of months ago since I didn't dare to try back then. However the result wasn't what I had wished for but at least I dared to try.

@KillerZombieCows72 Nope, the album is a concept album. The songs really about a husband and wife and she betrayed his love by cheating on him with his best friend. The songs about how his love for her "this union was never about love" he's looking back on his memories.
@sighswoons
@sighswoons 13 жыл бұрын
@KillerZombieCows72 Nope, the song is really about a husband and wife. But the wife betrayed the husband by cheating on him with his best friend. "This union was a battle fought and lost" resembles there relationship"it was never about love" is self explanatory. THe lyrics "just a brotherhood to stand for something " describes all he wanted was to be like brothers with his best friend, but now he can't since he betrayed him by going away with his ex-wife.

@ slayerrules86 The idea of a shipwreck in the sand is that it's completely irreversible. It kills your dreams, it crushes your plans. If your house burned down and you couldn't collect insurance, your life would literally be shipwrecked in the sand. It's a metaphor.

I use to listen to this song thinking it was all about the Captain's words over his crew, and that the crew could not do it any more. I have a GF and my best friend just got a new one, and his GF and my girlfriend have been fighting this whole week. I understand what this song means now. Its not about the Captain or the crew. Its about the ship. No one asked the ship what to do. No one one cares about others when every one thinks they are right.
