Its worth noting that Master Hand is technically from Kirby originally. The sprite of the hand that wakes Kirby up on the game over screens of the first few games is referred to as "Master Hand" internally. Same goes for the models of it in the more recent games like Return To Dreamland.

Also, Haley the blue hedgehog enemy from Amazing Mirror is a REALLY interesting case! Their name in Japanese is "Hari" from the word "harinezumi" - hedgehog. The fact that they're blue and move at high speeds means that the obvious Sonic reference was probably intended from the start, but the translators either missed this original meaning or made a super clever localisation choice and picked "Haley" instead. We might never know, but it's a fun one to examine!
@TornaitSuperBird2 жыл бұрын
The Haley name is a direct transliteration of the Japanese name, but it also works in that it's a reference to Haley's Comet.
@Electrosa2 жыл бұрын
@@TornaitSuperBird It's not. Haley's name in Japanese is ハリー, which is transliterated as Harī (with an extended "i", I was too lazy to grab the macron in my original comment). Foreign words are written phonetically in Japanese, which means that "Haley" is written ヘイリ - or "Heiri" in English letters. This is all moot anyway, because Halley's Comet actually already has an official spelling in Japanese, and it's ハレー: "Harē". So it's clear from this, and the fact that Haley's names in other languages reference it being spiky, that the Halley's Comet reference was something that the localisers chose to do. That's why I said it was clever - all the groundwork was already there, and anyone who doesn't speak Japanese wouldn't know the actual joke behind the name.

I haven't watched the video all the way through, so someone smack me if Silvery says this further on, but... Yo-Yo is also a huge EarthBound reference, before ESP was even a thing! Not only is Kirby wearing his Ness-like cap again and using a yo-yo as a weapon, but Yo-Yo's UI icon uses the same background as EarthBound's "Your Name, Please" section. This is a topic that deserves its own video, really, but the Kirby and MOTHER series are actually considered sister series! They share a great deal of development history and the series reference each other on the regular. Kirby was even the cursor icon in EB's debug mode!

About Samus appearing in Kirby's Dreamland 3, in Super Smash Bros Melee's Adventure Mode, after clearing Brinstar and escaping from it before the planet self-destructs, the players immediate escape plan is to head to Planet Popstar, as shown in a cutscene. So I guess it's plausible that Brinstar and Popstar are close enough that Samus may be able stop by on a somewhat regular basis, and that she and Kirby have proabably crossed paths on their intergalactic travels multiple times outside of Smash. Also, can we just talk about how many references to Smash there are in Kirby and vice versa? Between everything mentioned here, a bunch of Kirby themes being remixed for certain modes in Melee, the overall mechanics and controls of Smash and 2D Kirby, Kirby equipping the Ness hat whenever he uses one of the latter's moves (Yo-Yo, EPS, Baseball Bat, etc), even some Subspace and WoL boss attack patterns, it's insane how much overlap there is between the two series. Like sure, they were both created by the same guy and company, but the sheer amount of people who still boldly state that Smash is a Mario game more than anything to this day is astounding.

The giant robot drill arm would more likely be a Getter Robo reference if anything, as its both the more recognizable genre defining giant robot series, and what TTGL was referencing anyway. And even though it isnt directly anchored to some linked term or name, a reference to that same era of anime/manga 1970s classics is that the original Dark Matter, (and so many many other nigh identical anime/manga and videogame bosses) is cery likely an homage to GeGeGe no Kitaro's super iconic big boss, Backbeard/Buckbeard. Other than being referenced in a lot of other properties, it also inspired multiple generations of creators to make similar giant, looming, black, monoeye, primordial evil, orb bosses.

Fighter being Ryu is also a bit deeper: the mechanic of how weak and strong attacks work is kind of based on steet fighter 1 where how strongly you pushed the button determined its power. My favorite reference… Well… not really a reference… But an absolute bizarre connection and correlation… The Three Mage Sisters and Hyrule’s Leviathans… BOTW/TOTK… All three whale-like giants said to have died by respective environmental disasters… One died by a volcanic eruption… One died after being trapped inside a freezing cave during a blizzard… One, along with its child, suffered a catastrophic drought in the desert… Francisca nearly died in a blizzard… Flamberge nearly died suffocating by fire… Zan Partizanne attempted suicide by climbing a tower to allow lightning to strike upon her… after everything she held dear had died, and rather than living on a survivor’s guilt… she chose to end it all… herself… The Gerudo Desert… a land associated with lightning… houses a towering structure called the Lightning Temple… from the cave entrance to where the leviathan bones are located, the temple stands nearby… It most likely existed around the time the leviathans died. Could the Three Mage Sisters have a familial bond with the respective leviathans? Was the child leviathan’s death what prompted Zan to attempt to end herself? The Sisters bear Poe-like appearances. However… Francisca bears a shocking resemblance to Nayru’s 2D sprite model in Oracle of Ages. Is Francisca part goddess? Flamberge is shown in artworks with a little fang. Is Flamberge part demon? (A descendant of Batreaux?) Zan is known for displaying undying loyalty to Hyness. The Sheikah and Yiga swear undying loyalty to their respective deities, Hylia and Ganon. Is Zan of Sheikah descent? (Continued in replies)
@TomMooreT2S6 ай бұрын
- People always compared the Gerudo leviathan to the Wind Fish in Link’s Awakening… The Wind Fish brought forth a living manifestation of its own dream with a Nightmare attempting to take over it and the world beyond the shores of Koholint… The final boss of Kirby’s Adventure/Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland is called Nightmare. One of the enemies is a Kirby-like figure, which in the Switch remake, is a recycled design of Kirby’s model from Star Allies, the Kirby title the Three Mage Sisters debuted from. - One episode of the Kirby: Right Back At Ya TV show revolves around two whales, a parent and a child, and their struggle to reunite with each other. Is Tears of the Kingdom’s introduction of a child leviathan a loose callback to that? - Speaking of, one episode has the kids go to school, and whoever is the teacher wears a hat that turns them into mean-spirited @$$holes, is Drug Lord Yunobo a loose callback to that? - Kirby and the Amazing Mirror and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds; both feature worlds with mirrored counterparts of individuals of the light world; both heroes’ mirrored counterparts are cowards. - What about the Wizzrobes? The Wizzrobes in BOTW and TOTK all appear with fire, ice, and lightning magic. The colors of the robes bear a near-identical resemblance to the colors of the Mage Sisters’ robes when they fully succumbed to corruption as the Repentant Retaliators… Are the Wizzrobes physical manifestations of the Mage Sisters’ mischief? - Why does the Jambastion symbol bear a resemblance to Vaati’s demonic form, who in turn resembles Dark Matter and Zero (and his 02 form)? Void bears a resemblance to Zero and Dark Matter, but why does Vaati appear as such? Does the heart in the Jambastion symbol represent Vaati’s fascination by the evil within the hearts of men? Given he was called the “Wind Mage,” wouldn’t that have made him the secret Mage Brother? - Link’s Awakening’s final bosses shapeshifts into monsters Link fought in A Link To The Past; Ganon included; Dehtl inspired Vaati’s demon form; Kirby final bosses are known to resemble the evils Kirby fought prior to each entry. - You know, it’s very odd that Star Allies’ final boss is called “Void Termina.” As in “casted into the Void of the Evil Realm.” “Termina, a land parallel to Hyrule, as its name implies, doomed to die.” - Was Zan’s intentional destruction of the Jambastion Fortress a loose callback to Ganondorf’s destruction of his castle in Ocarina of Time? - Void Termina's first phase battle description: “Rise! Oh, Dark Lord of Despair! Crush the stars! Lay waste to care! Rise and cover the land in sorrows! May your symphony of emptiness bring the end of all tomorrows!” Ganondorf’s (in)famous order to his army: “Rise. Rise, my servants. Sweep over Hyrule with the power I have granted you. Eliminate this kingdom and her allies. Leave no survivors!” - Swords, Axes, and Spears. Each Mage Sister has a specific weapon. Both BOTW and TOTK let you use these different classes of weapons. - Sealed away due to the fear of power only to be redeemed at a later point in time? Sound familiar? (i.e. the Twili; the Divine Beasts)

- Zan’s name is almost the same as Zant… - Hyness goes from mindfully calm to totally insane within seconds complaining how he was sealed away; Zant can relate to this. - And given his name is Hyness, as in “HIGH-ness.” Like how Hyrule was originally as in “HIGH-rule.” Only Hyrule would later be confirmed to honor the name Hylia. But even with that, Lorule (LOW-rule) was named as a dark world counterpart to Hyrule. Did I mention Hyness was a benevolent priest? He succumbs to dark corruption after the Jamba Heart takes its toll on his mentality. - Hyness forces the Mage Sisters, along with himself, to sacrifice themselves to awaken a mindless monstrosity after the hero interferes with the ritual; Twinrova sacrificed themselves to revive Ganon in the Oracle games; Malladus gives up using Zelda’s body as a host and decides to use Cole instead with the intent to destroy everything with what little time he has left. - Zan, at first, believed Kirby is a simpleton with a knack for annoyance, but finds out he’s an interfering INTERLOPER. If you’ve skipped a key important part of the Zelda lore or living under a rock, it’s a no-brainer who the Interlopers were… and how Princess Midna and the Twili are descended from them. - Girls infused with the powers of the very elements that nearly killed them? Midna can relate to that. - In a last-ditch effort to eliminate Kirby, Hyness carelessly uses the Mage Sisters as lifeless rag dolls and thrashes them around. In Ocarina of Time, Ganondorf thinks nothing of his puppet, Phantom Ganon, but a worthless creation and banishes it to the gap between dimensions (a similar fate occurred to Magolor after Kirby defeated him, leading to the events of Magolor Epilogue), and with all of the demonic possessions seen in the Zelda series, even Ganondorf is no stranger when he possesses Zelda in Twilight Princess; the way “she” flies around, dives to impale Link, the lack of facial expressions until the end of the fight. Things are just as unsettling in Tears of the Kingdom when it was revealed that the Zelda seen throughout Hyrule is revealed to be another Phantom Ganon, the Phantom Saboteur. - Taranza gifts Sectonia a cursed mirror that turns her into a monster… sound familiar? - Are the Dark Skeletons, located in the Depths beneath the leviathan fossils, the manifestations of the Mage Sisters’ corrupted devotion to the Void Termina? - The Phantom Ganon encountered at the Gerudo Dark Skeleton carries a spear; Zan carries a spear that shoots lightning, which what the Gerudo associates - Is the entire Hero of the Wild set, located within the Dark Skeletons, supposed to imply the Mage Sisters’ redeemed turn at the end of the post-game mode, Heroes in Another Dimension? Zan: But before that... you stubby little pink ball... OH! KIRBY! Ganondorf: The Great Evil King Ganondorf... beaten by this kid?! (spits blood) Link….!

Pretty sure Fighter Kirby's Force Blast was introduced in Squeak Squad, not Return to Dream Land...
