Your videos have really helped me improve my game much quicker! I now find myself thinking alot more when i play my shots rather than simply trying to hit to empty space

I am very glad to hear that. Player smarter should be everybody's objective.

Great lesson! I agree there has to be more butts in seats at these events. It was full on COVID times for this event so that's the main factor here but in general there should be a full house for a match like this. I wonder how Tennis USA does it for the US Open? Early rounds can't be all that full. Do they gift tickets?
@BetterSquash
@BetterSquash 2 жыл бұрын
If I were an organiser, I would give the tickets to school children and local clubs. better to be full and maybe sell some food and let the stands of brands be busy with people. But that's easy for me to say though.

it was covid time so that’s why there are so many empty seats

That is a very fair reasons. Silly of me not to consider that, although I have seen it in plenty of other tournaments.

Question: When I have watched most good squash players they are always testing each others backhand drives not often their forearms,If a left hander was being played would it just be a constant battle to put the other player on their backhand or is it of no significance to higher level players as to whether they are playing backhand or forehand?
@BetterSquash

Generally, right handed players play more crosscourt against left handed players to force the rally on their backhand side. At amateur level, most players backhands are worse than their forehand, but at higher levels the difference is minor or non-existent.

hello, when will the next episode of the better squash podcast be coming out ?

Honestly, there's a good chance that the first oen was the last one. I got excited by the idea of having visual, audible and textual versions of the same content, but I didn't realise how hard it would be to make the podcast. In the past, I have recorded many podcasts (not for squash) but it was a live recording. here, I recorded each article separately and had to do a few takes of some and then editing it all together was a nightmare. Perhaps next year, I might try a live stream/audio recording and see how that works. I do want to have a podcast, but videos and articles must come first. Sorry.

I'm puzzled, why did Dessouky not ask for a let? Or why would he not have been given one?
@BetterSquash
@BetterSquash 2 жыл бұрын
It's a good question and I should have explained it in the video. I believe that it was partly because he didn't think he would get a let based on previous decisions and he didn't want to break his concentration or rhythm. And partly because the shot was good enough to be a winner. I'm not saying he couldn't have got it, but sometimes we almost give up before we should.

@@BetterSquash ah, ok. I know that if I managed to hit a shot like that, and then didn't get out the way, I'd give a let. Even if my opponent were ten times slower than Dessouky!

Invite school students who play squash to spectate💪

Yeah, that seems like the perfect solution, although I wouldn't limit it to only children who play. This is a chance to show non-playing children and their parents have cool squash is.

Its a shot you have to get right or it could easily end up being a stroke against you
@BetterSquash
@BetterSquash Жыл бұрын
Yes, that's true, which is why you need to practice it. One of my objectives with this series is to open people's minds to some new shots. Sometimes those shots will work, other times not. But if I can get players to view things from a new perspective, then I will be happy.

It was a bit risky aswell. Very low above the tin
@BetterSquash
@BetterSquash 2 жыл бұрын
I believe there was plenty of margin of error. To me, it looked about 2 or 3 balls above the tin - plenty for most club players

If a city can't fill seats don't have the tournament there. I've seen incredible noisy crowds at the US colleges, a good venue for these larger tournaments. Quatar has too many human rights issues anyways in my opinion to host a squash tournament, not that I want to get political!
@BetterSquash
@BetterSquash 2 жыл бұрын
It's a tough one, because as long as the sponsors are willing to put the money up, does it matter if nobody watches? I think it does, but maybe not to them.

@@BetterSquash I understand, however it goes against your comment about a bad look for squash, making it appear to be a very minor sport when 10 people are watching the world's best. It's also a bad look when (at some tournaments) players have to towel off the court themselves, go out of court to retrieve a ball, or when the host interviewing the players is dressed in a t shirt and jeans...we wouldn't see that in tennis. I think we have to dress up this sport to enhance its growth. Cheers and keep up the great videos.

How to not show empty seats? Do NOT hold Squash events in Qatar !!

Yes, Qatar is getting a lot of bad press recently, but I don't know how relevant that is to this situation.
