What age group would you say the people who used to listen to dio in the 80s but may or may not listen to it now are. In other words how old are the people who listened to dio nowadays.

@@cliffnoel4179 I went to high school from 1985 to 1990, basically hard rock was everywhere at that time especially in the late 80s, and from the most dorky guy to the most hard core metal head teen had their tapes of hard rock heavy metal back then from what I remember. So I'd say most would be about 14 years to about 19 years back then. Basically it's Gen X and later baby boomers who were into the rock back then. I still listen to the same type of stuff now (only the songs with the good riffs). But I also play live and have been writing music since the 1990s. .

Cliff-I commented too much here lol But its a great topic. In the 80s id say 1/3 of them stayed Metal until now but of course with diff.life focuses. Back then was only music and sports,no bills no kids.ect 1/3 were posers who wanted to hang out with the Rockers(straights,Rockers;preppies it was back then before rappers). And the other 1/3 to say so weekend parties metal listeners. Even if it was big back then even bands like Megadeth did not headline their Rust in Peace when it came out. They opened for Judas Priest with Testament. Dio Dream Evil tour was his last arena tour where he could still fill up 8-10 000 people. Same for Ozzy. Bro during the No More Tears tour(not the no more tours tour) Ozzy was playing 5-6000 crowds in many cities. Thats why they lied the no more tours tour shortly after to boost the weaker sales no more tears had. Bro its a business first. Look Slayer lol Slayer? Not Kiss,not Cher...but Slayer now lll

I'd love to know why Ronnie never reached out to Rowan again when Dio got going again? The guitarists were Tracy G, Doug Aldrich and Craig Goldy from 1993 onward. I totally understand Craig Goldy since he was in the band between 1985 and 1988 and did two major tours but why doesn't Rowan get another shot at being the guitarist? My favorite song on this album was always "Walk on Water"

Rowan Robertson was huge back in the day. He made it in many magazines due to becoming the new guitarist for DIO. He was like 18 when I heard about him on Metal Shop. This too is the time when Trixter was coming out. They too were popular, but their music was Glam rock and not metal like in the case of Rowan Robertson. December 14, 2021, USA Texas.

My friend Steve and I went to the DIO lock up the wolves show in 1990 at the Lakeland Civic Center. it was the fifth time seeing DIO absolutely incredible it was as usual with anything Ronnie James Dio!!!

My first time seeing Dio was at the Hollywood sportatorium Sacred Heart, then I saw Dream Evil Tour and Then Came Lock up the wolves and I did a nice Banner to take to the show, I was going to take a train from Miami to Lakeland I had everything planned out and was so excited, I was calling the radio station to win tickets and one night the radio host told me..." Concert it's canceled" I made the biggest mistake ever, I took his word for it instead of calling ticket Master, it wasn't until years later that I found out that concert was never canceled and It did took place, There is even a bootleg video of that night on KZbin. I couldn't believe how I was fooled by that Idiot on the radio, I always say things happen for a reason, maybe something bad would've happened if I would have gone, who knows. Fortunately I was able to see Dehumanizer at sunrise and kept seeing Dio through the years up until 2007 with Heaven and Hell!!! Saw Dio 16x through the years but not Lock up the wolves.

Great interview! It's a lot of fun going back to take another look. I saw the concert in Indianapolis. There's a great guitar tone on the album. You know, Jason, I'm so used to the modern dry metal drum sound that I don't even usually think about it. But listening to it after you guys talked about it, they do sound a little dry. Still great performances though! And it's awesome to see Simon and Rowan having a great time. Thanks for sharing the great interview! I'll look forward to watching more of them!

If I remember correctly, and I do because I heard it, Rowan played the solo to ‘Ladies Nite in Buffalo’ by David Lee Roth on the demo he sent to Dio. It was note for note perfect. Fun fact trivia fans!

First time I heard Dio's voice was through this amazing record of bluesy heavy metal, courtesy of Dio, Simon Wright, Jimmy Bain and the then teenager Rowan Robertson. I love that album because it is a one of a kind in Dio discography. A shame this lineup was disbanded because of Dehumanizer.

I saw these guys at the aston villa leisure centre on the lotw tour with trouble supporting - i remember the sound wasn’t great due to the acoustics in the gym but rowan played really well

I love this album! Growing up on the Oregon Coast (Newport) music was hard to get a hold of. I heard rumors of this album and when my family took a trip to California, we stopped in a record store and there it was in all of its glory. I remember the huge open spaces at the beginning of the title track. Love the bluesy grit of this record. I'd LOVE to hear that "lost" track. I gotta go find Rowan's house, lol.

Great album,great musicians. Later it was a mistake to hire Tracy G a tentative of Dio to add a 90s vibe to his music so he ended out playing night clubs for very often 300-400 people a show. Lock up the wolves yes it sounds a bit like a long song but after relistening its soon become a masterpiece. That tour Dio band still managed to tour theatres and event centres attracting the 1200ish-2000 crowd a show. In Canada Malmsteen was opening. He did not play the outdoor concert i attended as it was rainy all day and by 6h night the humidity was beyond....and we all know what humidity does to curly hair ...Malmsteen did not take a chance by canceling his performance.haha Dio played an extra half an hour. Dio=Class

Its ashame that Rowan and this lineup didn't do more albums. He seemed to be able to tap into the sound of dio. Not trying to offend anyone but strange highways to me sounded forced. Ronnie is a great melodic singer and that album just to me didnt fit his voice. Rowan was one of the best players ,he could play with great feel and technical skills. This lineup could have done some epic albums . Kinda sad it ended so early
