A vlog from a recent walk around the lovely rural village of Saltwood in Kent. I shot mostly black and white landscape photography with a Leica Q2 Monochrom, and a few colour photos with a Nikon Z9.
It's autumn, but not a lot of colour, and shooting in bright midday light I find best in black and white. Monochome works really well for old buildings like churches and castles.

Hi Simon Thanks for your latest vlog - great presentation - I found you on utube as we were spending a week in Hythe (nice vibe never beento kent before. I used your vlogs a a basis to plan our days & did St Leonards, Hastings Folkestone, & the Amazibg Dungerness I was like a kid in a sweet shop ! I used similar lens to shootong on Eos 1200 (1.6 crop) with 24mm 50mm & 85mm all about F2 plus Poloriser + Red Filter for B/W as apocket camera had canon G7 ( with flip screen ) Think i did 740 shots in 5 days - rewatchted your vlogs and realised i had missed your great B/W of the Angel in the graveyard - with this in mind I went to Portland amazing old church found a 3/4 Angel & had her on the right of the church in silhouette on f16 giving a great Starburst ! I am learnibg a lot from your vlogs ie telling a story / getting down low / having a project & seeing compostions Many thanks Pete

Hi Pete. Wow, your comment makes creating these videos worthwhile. I'm so pleased you found them useful for your own photography outings. I have quite a few video ideas for the area but have been unable to go out and make them, and now am back in Canada for a coupe of months. I plan to make a few videos while in Canada, and would really value your input regarding the type of videos I should make. What topics would interest you? If you have a website or Instagram etc., please do share here, would love to see what your creating! Cheers 🙂

Enjoyed coming along with you on your stroll Simon. I love getting lost, following (or trying to follow) footpaths. It's great way to explore unknown landscapes

Cheers Jamie, I do think the walk is the main feature and the photography is just an added bonus on days like this. ATB.

Saltwood is an incredibly lovely area for a countryside walk with your camera. The old church and castle are delightful.

Every boy should have a Conker in his pocket. Because you never know... That's not a part of the world I know, at all. Looked lovely around there Simon.

I agree, I still have the one I picked up in my pocket. Actually, I have three. Old habit, you just can't not keep a good conker.

It's something that I always admire about your vlogs Si... your style and presentation never gets tiring for me. Others do their thing and you sort of know what is coming before it comes up on screen...I can't put my finger on it exactly but you still manage to attain a freshness that gives me the viewer a "1st look" at your channel if that makes sense? Saltwood, too far away for me to have even heard about it (thats a confession) and it looks way to expensive for a valleys boy to be wandering around in - but thanks for taking the time to share these places. Fabulous set of images and the B&W works so well We have a few old churches down this way that I think you would really enjoy. I didn't realise that Kenneth Ckarke had passed away? Private Castle.. bloody ell, said that area was too rich for moi..lol. COPSE. Us of a certain age was looking at the conker with longing eyes..lol. 11:56.. that scene looks what I wouod refer to as a typical English landscape... could see some of the old painers setting down there... it just lacked a focal point? Thanks for taking us on your walk, very enjoyable. atb Al PS Areal ale if they ahd one but on a sunny day cider would go down equally well.

Hi Al. As always, such wonderful feedback, which is incredibly welcomed and appreciated. I try hard to edit an interesting video because I always feel I didn't go to an interesting exotic location or get amazing photos, so I suppose I'm trying to compensate for that. I was like a kid in a sweet shop with all those conkers everywhere, kept a few too, no idea why. Old habit I suppose, lol. I do enjoy old churches, need to get down your way, I keep saying that, but there's always so much going on. Very typical English countryside, yes. And expensive to live in this particular village, but it's free to wander around at least! There are some lovely old country pubs around here, and the cider I had that day was made locally and probably the best I've ever had. Cheers All, ATB.

There's never a wrong time of day, just a slightly incorrect perception of what could be achieved. Nice wander round Kent, I enjoyed it.

Thanks, I'm not a fan of editing videos, or at least, the making of them. But many people have asked me about B&W editing, so I may cave in and make one soon! Thanks!
