Very true, hair needs moisture. My hair never grew long because where I come from in South Africa is very dry in Winter and hair falls out because of the drieness in the Winter months May, June, July and August. But some people are lucky when they moisturise their hair regularly, their hair grows long, it does not break in Winter.

@@ww1andww2history "black hair" or natural hair has a lot of cultural associations that women and society look down on in some sense. Also, young girls often want to have hair like white girls. Attitudes are changing, but you never see women in professional settings with afros or natural hair nearly as often as women witt wigs or straight hair. Did you ever once see Michelle Obama with her natural hair? Also, adding hair extensions and wigs for different looks is fun and with that, it stresses hair. I truly think there are a lot of nuances still that exists that natural hair is not as valid, and women in the black community perpetuate that with changing their hair, whether they believe it or not personally.

@kitcowool
@kitcowool Жыл бұрын
@@marieammons814 shedding is falling from the root and seeing the cuticle on the end, general about 80-100 hairs are aged daily or more depending on hormonal phases (like mine for the second time during postpartum shedding). Breaking is it actually breaking at any point past the root, cuticle still in tact. Determine which is happening first. Dryness can cause both of these things.. Drink plenty of water and keep it moisturized with as little manipulation as possible. But OVER saturation is definitely a thing too. Don’t go crazy with the leave in. Try for few months, that don’t work try something different. But try your best to just leave it alone with ACTUAL protective styles that cause no tension or breakage. I had a pixie cut once and I used to wrap my hair in the same direction and tied it tightly with bandannas and it broke off on one side… the side that would rub the bandanna. Use satin to wrap loosely. Pin curls are less tension than wrapping always. Moisturizing with a deep conditioner often vs using leave in and keeping ends clipped helped me. I wish I could post pics.

1. Go natural 2. Wash once/week 3. Twist it up 4. Put a head wrap on 5. LEAVE IT ALONE Also: - You don't need a whole lot of products (eg just mix a couple dollops of conditioner with water in a spray bottle for a conditioning spritz. For natural oil, mix castor oil and coconut oil together - these alone should be enough) -NEVER COMB IT WHEN DRY - always when at least damp. Your hair will be down your bum before you know it.

Rinse out conditioner is not the same thing as leaven conditioner. It's not going to add moisture to your hair. It's supposed to balance out the PH in your hair After shampooing. You cannot use rinse out conditioner in place of leave in conditioner. It does not work that way. Conditioner helps to balance the ph and leave in conditioner is there to restore moisture that was lost after the shampooing and conditioning process rinsed out your natural oils.
@StrangestofDays
@StrangestofDays Жыл бұрын
@@FreedomUninterrupted The spritz is just to keep the hair damp while you're twisting it up. The oil mix will keep it moistured til the next wash day (1 weeks time). Plus the hair will be covered so it will retain the moisture. No need to buy a boatload of products. Keep it simple.

@@StrangestofDays Yeah but I think what Freedom Uninterrupted was trying to say is that you should not put rinse out conditioner it your spritz. Maybe you meant leave-in conditioner (in which case it would be fine), but from your original comment it sounded like you suggested spraying your hair with water+wash-out conditioner before you style it/after washing. So basically: do not leave rinse out conditioner in your hair. It is supposed to be rinsed out. There is such a thing as keeping it TOO simple. Just do the same thing as you described, but with a leave-in conditioner. If I misunderstood what you were trying to say and you actually meant leave-in conditioner, I apologise.

I had bum length hair when it was relaxed. It was like that all of my life up until I decided to go natural 2 years ago. People used to stop me in the store to ask about my regimen-one even took out a pen and paper (bless her heart). I was happy to help, but I always felt a tiny bit like a fraud for doing it because I knew the “secret” to my thickness and length wasn’t really a secret at all. Sure, KeraCare products and wrapping my hair at night created optimal conditions for my hair to thrive and reduced the likelihood of breakage, but a lot of it boils down to time, my genetics, and other physiological conditions I can’t recreate for someone else…especially not at the self checkout in Harris Teeter with a line of people behind me 😆.

I started my natural hair journey 10 years ago with the big chop when we all thought we had Traci Ellis Ross hair lol! I thought by now my hair would be down my back 🙄 it hits my neck curled and at the small of back straighten really no difference from when I permed my hair. And it’s more work, even though I followed the hair care routines of “long haired naturals” people under estimate genetics a lot of times on social media. As most of the people that create channels focused on hair, fitness etc often already have the qualities they know people aspire to. So instead I take the tips with appreciation but understand it may look different for me. I’m not sorry I went natural even if it didn’t go the way I thought ❤️

My mom had very long natural hair that hung past the middle of her back. It was thick but fine and all she really did was leave it alone. She didn’t wash it all the time. She just kept it detangled and braided up. My daughter’s hair is natural and very long and she does the same thing. Mine’s grow but I always cut it because I don’t like to feel it on my neck or my ears 😂 but all those products, heat , chemicals, wigs, weaves, tension, and constant stress on the hair will damage or stagnate its growth. You have to give your hair a break. I used to braid my cousins hair some years ago and she started to lose her edges. I told her she needed to give her hair a break from the tension or she would have no edges. She listened to me, and today she has plenty of edges. Her hair is beautifully thick and full. I could have kept making the money, but she will have suffered some substantial hair loss. I could not do that to her. Happy hair everyone 😊

I grew my hair out long like that as well and as a licensed Cosmetologist the best advice I can tell you is to simply LEAVE IT ALONE! Keep your ends trimmed, sleep on a silk pillowcase and do not I repeat DO NOT shampoo it more than once every 3 weeks. Trust me on that last one! Also limit products containing alcohol bcuz it strips and damages the hair shaft and cuticle most importantly. Be patient, it’ll be past your shoulders in to time ♥️

@@809tuchikita I got a prescription for topical compounded Progesterone cream. I went to an endocrinologist but you can go to a family Dr or gyno. It has to be prescription though! The OTC stuff at the health food store doesn't work near as well. It has to be filled at a compounding pharmacy. Some take insurance but you usually have to pay out of pocket for it. Mine comes to about $30 a month. Hope that helps ❤️

Gorgeous hair! Also, what people fail to realize is that genetics plays a BIG role in how quickly your hair grows and also the texture/thickness. Going natural is NOT going to make your hair magically grow 5 inches a month! The most important thing is to cleanse your hair regularly, deep condition, and moisturize. I’ve been natural since 2009, I’ve cut my hair a few times, and I also co-wash my hair EVERY morning in the shower :) I also have a “magic mix” that I use. It’s homemade and the base is unrefined shea butter, and a mix of at least 10 different oils (proprietary secret… lol). Do what works for you and don’t get obsessed over length, it’s only hair :)

Most people’s hair does grow but they might not see the length because of breakage

I know for me after having big chop ever so often, an using Keratin treatments, an protein treatments along with deep conditioning, an not shampoo I see grow, I'm growing out my hair from cutting it 3 years ago. Consistancy an Discipline works. I silk press! I left relaxers alone, an that's when I noticed growth also.

Your hair is gorgeous and the fact that we share the same name makes me more interested in your content ❤ don’t stop keep it up. My hair is not as long as yours but you inspire me to embrace it more and grow it more because wigs are cute but your changing the narrative that black women can grow their hair as long and healthy as the next race ! Props to you ❤❤❤❤

Protective styling not overly styling is key. The women of Chad, Africa grow their hair to their ankles and keep it braided up in protective styles all year.

I’m so glad you show that natural healthy hair can be long and full and still have heat ❤ I hate how the “natural community” tries to say you can’t have heat…there’s nothing wrong as long as you take care of your hair.

A woman once came up to me in a grocery store and said, "My daughter likes your hair and wants her hair like yours". She proceeded to ask what do I do to my hair. I informed her that I really just keep my scalp clean. I am low, low, maintenance because I work from home... even before the pandemic, so I do the bare minimum and my hair just grows. I shampoo once a month then use cool or warm water only rinses in between washes, deep conditioning afterwards, apply my random selection of oil to seal in moisture then use no heat to style homemade twists or braids while WET. The only time I got ANY damage was went I went into the beauty salon for a silk press. Oh, I also take hair, nail, and skin vitamins... This is also the exact same way my mother used to do my hair growing up, btw 🤧.

Loved everything you said here about growing hair. The recipe you shared is just to simply take care of it. Nurture it and yourself. Stress stops the growth of hair. But you seem so calm in your nature that it makes sense that it grows out beautifully and healthy.

I got mine butt length within 4 years doing that and it was so healthy. I also did treatments in between tho so yea lol but you’re right treat your hair like it’s a newborn baby. TLC.

Nutrution grows your hair and nails. B vitamins are a major nutrient. Be careful with to much heat. It will dry it out and make it brittle. Brittle hair breaks. Stop using some types of brushes as they break your hair. Use wide tooth combs and picks instead. Wide tooth brushes with protective tips. Hollow brushes to allow heat to go through. Best wishes. Love yourselves.
