For anyone looking into making this journey, I would recommend getting the CFR/MAV train (the train that he took, which is state owned) from Budapest only to Arad. From Arad, you can get the ATC train (private ownership, but much cleaner and nicer). I would also recommend that you stay awake from before Orsova to after Dr. Turnu Severin to see the Danube at night, it is a wonderful sight. Also, Simon didn't climb up the ladder. On the bunk bed above, he would have found a place for his luggage, as well as pillows and blankets. You then use the pillow cover and the duvet cover that you get freshly washed and sealed and you are good to go. There is also a temperature control that you can use if it is too chilly or too hot for you.

Its British and its very commonplace to say "see you later" when we know that's absolutely not going to happen. Don't take it literally, Brazilian racing driver Ayrton Senna da Silva did just that, a Brit said "see you later", Ayrton thought he was going to see the guy later, he never did and felt betrayed because of that. Its our way of saying bye without it being too abrupt.

Just to let you know, CFR trains are really reliable, just that they are pretty old if you go with a Sleeper train. They are obviously always vandalized (by kids, as in Romania you go as a kid for free on CFR) But the sound of the train is either the break or just the fact it’s old. The sleeper carriages are very relaxing when there’s nobody there, but they likely get packed. However, amazing video whatsoever.
