Second project in a series using 2 1/2 inch strips to make scrappy quilts! These videos will be a great guide to making beautiful, scrappy quilts. My goal is to use up some of the strips that have accumulated in my lifetime of quilting!
One block is made of an "A" Set and a "B" Set. Each block will use about 1 1/2 strips.
"A" Sets are made from one fabric strip and include: one square 2 1/2" x 2 1/2", two rectangles 2 1/2" x 6 1/2", and two rectangles 2 1/2" x 10 1/2".
"B" Sets are made from a different fabric than "A" and include: two squares 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" and two rectangles 2 1/2" x 6 1/2".
Make as many blocks as you like using any color combination that you like! Imagine it in Halloween Fabrics! Oh no...now I want to make another one using Halloween fabrics!
Baby quilt: 40" x 50", 4 x 5 setting, 20 blocks uses 30 strips or around 2 1/4 yards of fabric
Kid quilt: 50" x 70", 5 x 7 setting, 35 blocks uses 53 strips or around 3 3/4 yards of fabric
Lap quilt: 60" x 80", 6 x 8 setting, 48 blocks uses 72 strips or around 5 yards of fabric
Twin quilt: 70" x 90", 7 x 9 setting, 63 blocks uses 95 strips or around 6 3/4 yards of fabric
Double quilt: 80" x 100", 8 x 10 setting, 80 blocks uses 120 strips or around 8 1/3 yards of fabric
Queen quilt: 90" x 110", 9 x 11 setting, 99 blocks uses 148 strips or around 10 1/2 yards of fabric
King quilt: 120" x 120", 12 x 12 setting, 144 blocks uses 216 strips or around 15 yards of fabric
1 jelly roll will make a baby size quilt.
2 jelly rolls will make a kid or lap size quilt.
3 jelly rolls will make a twin or double size quilt.
4 jelly rolls will make a queen size quilt.
6 jelly rolls will make a king size quilt.
This block was first shared in our May 2022 Block of the Month as a bonus block. See the link below for the original video.
• BLOCK #5 for our 2022 ...
I've challenged myself to do a new project each month using only 2 1/2 inch strips from my scrap buckets. I have always saved leftover strips from projects and cut up small leftover fabric from yardage into 2 1/2 inch strips and put them in a bucket for some "future" project . The future is now! It is time to tame the scrap bucket and use up these strips. I will ALWAYS have a scrap bucket of strips because I'm constantly adding to it but I want to get it down to just ONE bucket instead of three! This series will last until I'm down to one bucket. Let's be honest, it will take at least 2 years to use up enough strips to make a difference! So join me on this project adventure to use up fabric scraps!
Consider joining our Facebook group called "The Quilted Forest Friends". This is the only place you'll have access to exclusive free quilt patterns used in some of our other video projects. It's also lots of fun for members to share their project updates. Here's a link to the group:

The comment about the 2002 fabric made me laugh as I just recently completed a UFO quilt whose fabric I had purchased in 1993 according to the yellowed receipt for the fabric found in the work in progress bag I had put it in so long ago. Time flies when you are having fun. Love your site. Thank you!

I love how you calculate how much fabric each of these projects uses! It’s a great reminder of what a resource our scraps are. We paid just as much for our scraps as we did for the fabric we used in the “first” quilt! Incidentally I use buff colored masking tape and a sharpie to mark my black positions. The masking tape stays on but doesn’t damage the fabric. The sharpie stays on the tape and doesn’t rub off on the fabric.

23:59 I'm from Texas and have been quilting only since i retired about 10 yrs. Iwas taught not to waste anything so i make baby quilts and string and log cabin. I love this and was trying to decide what to start now. You helped me decide. The only problem I had was thinking you were saying black instead of block and couldn't quite figure out where you were putting the black.....guess I missed the Texas drawllllll lol

This series is invaluable. Although this particular pattern is a bit more than I'm ready to tackle, I love the format and real time camera work as you run through the technique. Most other quilting tutorials show the viewer one time in real time, and then blast loud music and race through the technique "for all four corners" or until you "reach the end" type teaching, assuming that you got the technique with just one view. I am binge listening to all the series. I learn so much as far as pressing seams, pinning blocks pieces, and most of all, efficient approach to about just about every step. Thank you from a beginning quilter.
