Instead of screwing the nozzle onto the tank, you should hold the nozzle so it always points away from you and spin the tank.

The 1st thing to do after placing the torch attachment on it is to use soap & water to test for leaks, mine leaked on the 1st one I purchased & if I had not followed this important step in the included instructions, it's possible it could have blown up or caught on fire, so make sure to use soap & water to test it before lighting it.

the lack of heat down the nozzle will extinguish the flame from traveling into the tank like the "Davy Lamp" im still not confident tho but when you feel the end of the nozzle it cold so its like how the flame going to be lit

It is not a good idea to leave the attachment on. It is too easy to accidentally hit or turn the nob and release the gas and sometimes there can be very slight leaks. It's easy enough to remove and then put it back on later.

What if, after use, the tank smells when I disconnect the top from it? Is it still safe?

Just make sure there's no propane leak by putting a mix of soapy water on the top and make sure there's no bubble.

Try to hold your hand on the nozzle and blow with your mouth and turn the knob to see if any air is coming out of the nozzle or not. If not then your nozzle is clog or see if there's anything obstructing the air flow.
