Simple Fix for "referencing media on the camera" error in FCPX

Have gotten this error multiple times while exporting videos from Final Cut Pro X (fcpx) and thought that i would put up a video showing what is causing it and how to fix it. Hope it helps!

I was having a hard time getting the clips to show because I am new to FCP so another thing you can do is click "Index" all the way on the left above the reel you are editing and it will show all of your clips and the one that did not import properly will be flagged with a little red icon. Hope this helped! Great video!!

FCPX keeps crashing for me when I reimport it :/

Lots of little things that could be causing a piece of software to crash. Try renaming your library just in case the library is the issue. If not then try creating a new user on the computer and installing FCPX there. If that works then its a problem somewhere with the original user account. If that doesn't work then it's possibly an OS problem. At that point, you will really need to dig deeper to see what's causing it. Let us know what happens and hopefully, someone here can respond with some further help.

I came across this video because I already knew this, but for some reason reimport wasn't ticking, so I didn't know what else to do! Turns out I just needed to restart Final Cut, but the reimport option definitely works. I'll just say it's even easier than this. No need to locate the problem clips. Final Cut will reimporr ANY clips that aren't fully referenced in the program.

actually you do want to know which clips are causing the issue so that you can put the proper card back in the computer. I record using upwards of 4-5 cameras and I need to know which file is causing the issue so that i can put the correct card back in the computer to reimport from. If all your footage is from one card than its not an issue. But most projects will come from multiple cards or sources.

as long as the original media is in the computer it should just reimport again. If not there is a bigger problem.

I can’t find the camera symbol. The only symbol that sticks out is a caution symbol in my project name. Even then I still try to reimport and nothing happens

I found a solution. Its a little cheap but what you gotta do is just delete the piece thats causing the whole issue from the timeline and in all the events. in my case it was just footage no more than two seconds, but if its something thats much longer than that I hope you find a solution.

You'll have to really scan the clips for your project(s) as far as I remember the symbol your looking for isn't in your timeline but rather where all your clips are being kept. Wish I could show you the image but look for a small grey image of a camera thats in the bottom right corner of a clip. Once its found, right click and re-sync it. If that doesn't fix it, then you'll have to do what I did and completely delete the clip altogether. For me it wasn't a huge issue cause the clip was only a stock sample that lasted for only a second. I hope it isn't a huge sacrifice for you and your project if that's your last solution. Either way, Good luck!

then thats not good. that means you erased the card before they actually had a chance to fully import.
