Hello there Ray. I'm a retired HVAC technician. Going to the filter first is the right call. Second, I would have checked the condenser fin conditions. A dirty condenser will keep high side pressure very hi, even if the engine/condenser fans are working ok. With a clean filter and clean condenser you can then measure the refrigerant charge without worrying of these factors. Anyways, you do a great job always and I love your channel. Keep it up!

I had invaluable mentors myself when I was in tech school that taught us how to not only fix it right the first time, but to always question the answer (instead of simply changing parts like a robot) to ensure what we were doing was indeed the correct course of action. This is the number one reason I love this channel so much because 99% of the time, Ray & I are on the same page! I will literally be sitting there watching a vid saying something to myself and quite literally 2 seconds later Ray is saying the exact same thing. The other 1% I can't help but REEEEEE, screaming at him through my computer that there's a better way! 🤣🤣🤣 [2 minutes laytehr] Ray: "Welllll, that didn't work...." Me: "Toldja!!!"

Pro tip Ray, those A/C machines will fill their internal tank much faster if you flip the source tank upside down. Our machines actually say to do this in the instructions. On a side note, that machine is a piece of junk. Our Robinair 1234YF machine is slow but not nearly that slow.

That 10 pound can of 1234YF does not cost you 1600.00$. My cost at Oreilly's is 599.00$. I am a master tech with 32 years experience in this field as well as having the joke of a license to be able to buy it. Be honest with your viewers. Whatever you sell it for is your business. Also not sure why your machine does it like you claim it does but my snap-on machine will charge a small amount of 1234 to the system then make you turn on fan and send airflow to floor. Then using a sniffer check for any leaks. If no leaks are found by the tech then you simply press continue and the machine releases the rest of the charge. The only time it will not allow you to charge is if during the vacuum process while it is monitoring the micron level it rises above a predetermined set point thus causing the machine to terminate the process until you find the leak. Other than that I love watching your videos and amazed at how far you have come.

@@dgc940 I know that's my small problem with Ray. Sometimes he will exaggerate things to make something seem more than it is. Maybe for views I'm not judging. Just something I have noticed. Nothing against the man in any way what so ever. I know it takes a considerable amount of time to film, edit and post videos and I can only imagine how busy he is. I appreciate him posting videos for the world to see and learn from. He obviously works his butt off. There's a difference between what it costs and what hes selling it for. Obviously say this is what i sell it for instead of it cost me. It misleads people.

@@chrisfreemesser5707But R744 is just CO2. The systems and parts for running it are very expensive because of the 1500psi high side pressures but there's no way to patent CO2, it's just used for too many applications. You could easily just get it at your local welding shop for very cheap. But the parts cost on those systems will be insane, even though the refrigerant cost is low.

Except that by that stage, if the clips have broken off, chances are that the thread in the plastic is also worn off and it no longer holds! That's why when putting them back those screws need to be rotated anti-clockwise until they click so you know you are going into the same threads in the plastic each time. Not many people do that: they just screw away!

@heckelphon

@@jeffsullivan3101 I've not met that many engineers who did! The thing is with those fastenings that they can be driven in super fast in assembly as the hole is just a smooth drilling at that stage, and they hold secure, but if they have to come out more than just a few times they can easily get slack unless you match up the threads. If you chew away the old thread by driving a new one too often you have to end up substituting a metal screw with a threaded insert using a bit of heat, like from the end of a soldering iron. That can be easy if it's a soft polymer like ABS, but if it has too high a melting point you can be in trouble. And some fastenings, like on cheap UPS cases, just shatter the second time you undo them to replace the battery in any event!

I don't know much about vehicle AC systems, but they're probably similar to AC in a building. There's usually a temp sensor on the coil, and if everything's working right, the coil won't ice up no matter how clogged the filter is. The switch cuts the compressor off when coil temp reaches +3C or so, a few degrees above freezing. No matter what's going on with airflow.

It's odd that the new machines fill with the bottle right side up. My Robinair requires the canister be upside down. The hissing in the dash could be an evaporator leak. 1234yf high side psi should be around 250 at 90* F. 325 seems high. Either overcharged or expansion valve.

It's amazing to me , how many people in this age of technology, that don't know the difference between cooling outside air and cooling recirculated inside air. The OEM's have sometimes helped with labeling the controls as MAX COOL which then recirculates the cooled air, but many folks don't know that that's what happens. So when the humidity is very high and the temperature is also high the amount of water that needs to be pulled out of the outside air will freeze on the evaporator and block air flow. To fix, turn off the AC for ten minutes and fan on high, then turn on the AC with controls on recirculate, or MAX, and the problem may be gone.

As long as you perform the recommended $2500 services every couple years, they will last indefinitely. We just bought a 2021 Camry with 60k. It’s pushing 70k now and it’s already had $1800 in repairs (at the dealer’s expense thankfully). I haven’t put $1800 in my Mazda in 10 years. I hear the same things about BMW and their “reliability”. (Not from Scotty, but from those most reliable studies). As long as you change every single part and every single fluid to BMW’s exact specifications, they’re quite reliable. If you half-ass it, you might as well get a second mortgage to buy your mechanic a new boat. At least with a ford, if I go a thousand miles over on an oil change and use Walmart oil, it’ll still be ok. It’s like BMW, Honda, Toyota and the like design their cars to be maintained exactly like the manual (I know we all should, but that’s not always possible) while ford and GM know that you’re gonna be a B- at best and design theirs accordingly.

Ray, sometimes the condenser core being slightly restricted will cause a flood back condition in the TXV valve, where it surges with flashes of gas and the next minute liquid, giving a swooshing sound, I had to remove the front grill and radiator to find a really dirty condenser, clogged with a frigen napkin that had glued its self to the back side on the condenser core, the only way I could get to it is to separate the radiator and A/C condenser, clean all the Bull shit out and use coil cleaner. That frigen car drove me nuts for 3-4 hours. I feel your pain with the 1234YF, it's just like the days (1990-1991) we first got introduced to "Puron" R-410A I was a master HVACR tech for 40 years, and we went from R-22 with 60-65 PSIG low side and high side of 270 to 295 being normal, to this new Bull Shit R-410A Low side being 102 -145 and high side of 450 to as high as 800 PSIG, I can tell you if you have a leak with that high of pressers it whistles like crazy and don't even use your hands to find a leak you could come back with a finger missing. lol and PS: 1234YF is very very sensitive to just the slightest amount of refrigerant loss or an overcharge condition.

If you accidentally "over charge" then a "high pressure sensor" kicks in and disables the air con altogether! I also monitor vent temp with meat thermometer like Ray, and also have High & Low gauges to monitor working pressures.

In Pennsylvania, right turn on red, and the left turn on red onto a one-way street has been the law since January 1, 1977. Intersections where it's not permitted are marked with "No Turn On Red" signs. Some are "no turn on red between the hours of X and Y". A few local police chiefs were indignant about the change. The chief of the Duquesne, Pennsylvania police department huffed "I wasn't consulted about this!" and hung "No Turn" signs at every intersection. The current problem comes from drivers who only marginally slow down and sometimes stop for a car or larger vehicle. This causes problems for pedestrians and cyclists.

It’s not as simple as your making it., most intersections require you to come to a complete stop and are allowed to turn right ( or left ) if the lane is clear. Some areas it’s required that you have to wait on a green light. Some intersections you again a lane with turning right and the directions tell you to keep moving. It just depends on traffic patterns.

In most US states, you must come to a complete stop before making a turn on a red light. Now if you have to cross over lanes of traffic like on a left turn (Or right turn in Australia) you can not turn on a red light. That can go a couple of ways. More pleats will also restrict some airflow and thus be a little less efficient. After all, you’re filtering HVAC air, not engine oil. I wouldn’t sweat it too much. No, it was supposed to be more "environmentally friendly" than r134a. R12 works wonderfully. Used to have an old Nissan that used it, had wonderful cold AC. My current 79 Subaru has no AC at all, but it's small enough that it really doesn't matter with the windows open, and I like the simplicity. My friend has an 82 Oldsmobile Toronado diesel that was originally R12, but was converted at some point, still cools excellent, even with 134a. R152a (computer duster) is a better choice for retrofitting R12 systems than R134a. Cools much better with the lower pressures and is insanely cheap. You can get a tool that punctures the side of the can to extract it. In a diesel vehicle where you're not so concerned about refrigerant flammability, Red-Tek is an even better R-12 retrofit. Works with the original oil, and might even cool better than R12 did. But I wouldn't use it in a vehicle with a spark ignition engine.
