My husband and I got our first corgi (and puppy) the second week of May. After searching KZbin for puppy (and corgi) content I stumbled across your channel and very quickly, felt so grateful that I did! Clear and concise, well executed, incredibly helpful and overwhelmingly informative. There’s so many excellent and well thought out points in your videos. Its been a tremendous and ongoing help in laying the proper foundation and ground work. We really had (and continue to have) such a desire in setting up the right path for Lola to thrive and be the best dog she can. I can’t thank you enough! There’s so much content out there, and not all of it is so great- so when you come across trustworthy, valuable and a truly helpful source like yours, it’s gold. Looking forward to continuing to learn and watch 😁

Sarah. Thank you so much for your comment and encouragement. We’re a small channel and sometimes I wonder whether doing this is worth while to put in the work in making these videos. While juggling two young kids, a full time job and family life in general, it’s been a grind but comments like this makes it all worth it. You made my day. Thank you 🙏 and your puppy will be an amazing dog with the effort you are putting in!

@@GandalfTheCorgi I’ll be honest- that very thought you shared crossed my mind.. the immense effort and care you’ve put into your videos and content all while raising a family and young dog- and how grateful I am that you have! It’s really surprising that your views aren’t though the roof! The KZbin algorithm leaves much to be desired. I do wish they’d upgrade and rewrite it prioritizing viewership that people actually should be exposed to! Keep up the phenomenal work- it truly is valuable and appreciated!

Our trainer suggested for summer a child pool with water and ice and then sprinkle in kibble. We will be modifying and using jerky instead of kibble.

Your video was great and provided some new ideas. I've e named every single toy by its name, when I ask my dog it fetches the right one. Actually, as she isn't allowed to jump or run I make indoor games with her such as hiding her toys and asking to search for them, and she has tons of fun. I will start now with some different tea bags, to see if she smells the same, she finds it when hidden.

Thank you for the great ideas. Corgis always seem like such happy dogs. I throw treats one at a time for my dogs to find on walks. I build tunnels and obstacle courses in my house or outside in the summer. I use boxes, pillows, patios tables and chairs anything that I have around . Then hide treats for them to find. I bought an inexpensive agility set from Amazon, to add to the course. I do parkour with them and I am participating in an 45 day parkour scavenger hunt. The scatter feeding does invent magpies, crows and skunks. We have discontinued that😂 we have a 16 inch deep plastic pool that I put sinkable toys in and my Aussie loves to dive for them. I build a tracking course around my yard or in the house with treats. My big problem is I have 2 schnauzers and 18 month old Aussie. I have keep two of them away for the tracking. I make my own low cal treats or use their kibble

This is great! Can you do any of these with a Corgi puppy? Mine is only 10 weeks but seems really smart and wants to play and learn.

Definitely! The impulse control might not be there yet so you may need two people to make it work. Have one person hold your puppy before you release for the block 1 games. For block 2, incorporate these games along side obedience training. For example, base training is just a simply teaching your puppy where to settle and that’s part of crate training. We also had Gandalf stand on the box for heel training (look in second half of the video in part 3 of our training series on loose leash walking). Targeting is also probably one of the simplest things to train your puppy. I taught all of these games to Gandalf when he was a puppy! Good luck and let me know how it goes!

I just got an adult corgi whose been caged in with no attention all his life.. do you think it’s going to take more effort along with attention to get him trained? I’ve been watching your videos so taking him out into this field where I grew up to run is gonna be the first thing I do today when I get home

Yes, it may be a bit more challenging as certain habits have already been ingrained in your corgi’s mind and will require quite a bit of socialization. Take it slow and be patient but all of the exercises and concepts I have shared remain the same. I’m assuming that if it has been caged, it will lack a lot of social interaction and needs to build that trust and bond with you over time. Good luck and let me know how it goes!

@@GandalfTheCorgi she’s integrating well.. I have a 7 and 9 yr old so she’s getting tons of social interaction lol and I’ve been taking her to run so by the time we get home she’s pooped. Thanks so much for the videos they helped me a TON 🙏🏾

It is always worth the work, and you will be surprised how happy your dog will be. This also helps to tie a big bond between you

Gawd, Corgis are so freakin cute. If I didn't get a Cane Corso, I would have probably gone after a Corgi. I would have named him Sargent Slaughter and called him Sarg for short. He would have destroyed all the gophers we got on our 10 acres. I'm happy with what I got though. I got a 10 week old brindle Cane Corso I named Huey after Huey P Long.

I never knew it was this much work to have a dog. I thought walks and runs were fine. Maybe dogs are not for me.

It’s all dependent on your lifestyle. Corgis are herding dogs and have lots of energy that needs to be expended or they become a nuisance. Do some research on low energy breeds that you like and I’m sure you’ll be able to find a match.

It’s very important to acknowledge your limitations as a dog owner. You might end up with a wilful, stubborn, reactive, inattentive dog even if their energy levels are relatively low. On the plus side, a lot of enrichment can be done on walks! I would encourage my dog to look for objects hidden in the forest, or do obstacles over benches and low walls. Off leash areas can be excellent ways to stimulate a dog’s mind because they have to socialize as well as exercise. I change things up during fetch time by having the dog bring back a specific toy or ball, or fetch two items, or follow commands in order to get me to throw the ball. The nice thing is, as the video shows, that the dog craves engagement so you don’t have to switch up the activities all that much. 😊
