I deliberately saved this video so that I could give you some feedback after trying your method. Fantastic! I am 83 years old and have been playing golf - or at it - since I was 8. I have mostly been about a 10-13 HC. As you well know, you can't have that kind of HC without having a decent short game, especially chipping. (Chipping might be more important than putting, I think.) But this year (because of lockdown), I have played only three times, and all rounds were in the 100s. Not all of it was from chipping, of course, but "chill-dipping" only compounded my frustration. The two days before I saw your video, I went to the chipping green and practiced for three separate hours with a dozen balls from 25 feet, recording how many balls I got up-and-down in two. 2 out of 12! I had forgotten everything I had ever learned about chipping. The more I practiced, the worse I got, especially, under self-imposed pressure. (Your release of the three fingers from the grip really works!) I thought I had no choice but to go to my pro for a lesson. Then I ran across your video, and Voila! Today I returned to the practice chipping green, applied all of your techniques and after about 30 minutes, I easily and consistently changed the 2-in-12 to 9-in-12! I was much farther away than you were in your video, so I used a 9-iron instead of a 56-wedge. Bye, bye chicken wing! Hello, new game! Many, many thanks, Danny. Thumbs up and I subscribed!

Huge thank you for this (and all your) video(s). Chipping and short pitching has been my Achilles' heel. I either bladed everything across the green or shanked everything almost 90 degrees to the right. Any time I was within 50 yards of a green I swear I would have been better off using my putter than any of my wedges. Practiced what you explained in this video in my backyard and took it to the course today and every ball I hit was actually airborne and most of them found greens! A literal game-changer for me.

I love the way you explain it, very natural and straightforward. One question though, there’s a popular video of Mickelson where he’s saying that there’s only one way to chip, the hinge and hold technique. What do you think about this? You’re not using this at all and it looks so much more natural!!!
@DanielMaude4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I love what Phil can do with a chip shot. If you look at Phil chip he doesn't really use the hinge and hold, in fact he has actually changed the name on his instagram to hinge and restore which basically means he's releasing the club a little not holding. He is a legend and I did buy his DVD...who wouldn't want to learn from Phil. The hinge and hold method for most golfers will be too difficult to execute

Excellent piece of instruction Danny based on the only really successful teaching methodology: 'Tell. Show. Do'. As with all your sessions, simple, straightforward guidance. I've tended to use an 8 or 9 iron for chipping and pitching but 10 minutes in the garden with my 56 degree lob wedge has shown me the error of my ways. Thank you Danny! For reasons I won’t get into here; I stopped playing 20 years ago and only this season, I have started back at the game (and regretting my decision years ago)! My biggest challenge has been my consistency and this video alone has answered my ‘why did the ball do that??’. I’m now an official Subscriber and between your videos and a local golf instructor (who has a very good approach toward assisting with my understanding of what to do during various scenarios) I feel I’m starting back on the right path. I previously tried your recommended solution for slowing my swing (by saying ‘100 and’ through my back swing, then ‘one’ just before ball contact) the results were immediate. Therefore; I’ll be following you closely!

Finally got to watch the video. Great points on using gravity to get the club on the ball. Your example of the chicken wing was me when I was "trying" to figure out pitches and chips. I had recently picked up on the letting gravity help in a 30 challenge on the Sand Trap website. Your teaching reinforces those lessons. I also love the distance control drill - that is one of my favorites. I have enough room to do pitches/chips up to 20-25 yards and if I use my neighbor's, I can go upwards of 50! Also using the putter grip for short chips is the bomb. I do need to develop a better pre-shot routine so I can be more consistent. Many thanks for this lesson...

i have been chipping pretty good lately... but i saw this video and re-visited my approach on short chips. I have been putting lately by letting the weight of the putter DROP into the ball- a much easier way to judge how far you will hit a putt. But - after watching this, i realized i need to let the wedge FALL into the ball on shorter chips also. MUCH easier to judge the distance also... makes sense!

After taking your "pitching versus chipping" tips to the course I'm getting some really close to the pin shots.You know 8 iron,ball back in the stance,upright stance and hinge,the other 63 deg, pivot and drop the club...and now I had some of those shots when the ball catches on the fringe,so I'll try these as I was doing just what you showed at the start of this!

Morning Danny - I definitely fall into the chipping yips category! I am confused though as I have always been told short back and long through? Anyway, this looks like a great opportunity to try something new and I appreciate that. The left shoulder comment could be the fatal issue that I have and I never realised it. Thanks again, mate! Have a great weekend and I hope you and the family are all safe and well!

Great chipping tips, this is the one area I struggle with and love the simple tips. Wish you lived closer and I would come for lessons!⛳️
