I got the same knife. I bought the cheap sharpener for it and sharpened it and now it is super sharp. The little $3 knife works good when sharpened.

I use a Electric fillet knife with small teeth . Start just behind the gills dropping down to the spine and run through till just before an inch from the tail stop flip the fillet skin down on table , run the knife right down just above the skin then cut out the rib cage and you’re done takes about 30 seconds

Great video of one way to clean a catfish. This is how I was raised cleaning them and then I learned to fillet them like any other fish and it was wayyyyyy easier and quicker

I filet them first, then cut the skin like I do any other fish. Also, I can't say enough about Zatarain's SEASONED fry mix! I dredge the cat in it and pan fry. I'm sure baking or blackening would work, too. My brother.... it made the very best cats I ever had. It's made with corn flour (no wheat) and lots of spices.

I struggled for years with pliers, in my opinion skinners are a valuable tool. Just brought my first pair of skinners this year. Just make sure you have arm strength cause pulling that skin away is a workout if your not use to it. Also have paper towels handy to wipe your skin pulling tools off they get really slimy.

Dad taught me a different way to skin the catfish. I eat bullhead (basically the same thing). Your's seems to take a long time to do though. but everyone has their own way to do things. this is just another way. I've also learned the filleting the fish is easier and faster. Keep those videos coming. I'm new to your channel. and am enjoying them very much

Nothing wrong with how you are doing it. Works very good with skinners. I have found I can do it faster without cutting the skin by using a regular pair of pliers and catching the skin right underneath the sharp bone behind the gills. Not a better way. Just easier for me. Great video!

Good video! A couple things you can do a little differently that seemed to help me when I used to clean them is to take wire cutters and cut those spines off. Second thing and it takes a little work, but I got to the point (with practice) where I could fillet them without doing the skinning process. I just did it like a crappie. You can use the knife to go right between the skin and meat. Good job bro! Hope we can get together next week and meet in person.

8-10+lb flathead , you can leave the skin on(or not) and after gutting , slice down between the ribs (steak) , put on a hot grill (BBQ) on foil , cover fish w/butter and lime juice , salt(garlic) , close the lid and when the meat splits @ the backboan , there ready . Even my friends' daughters , who did not like fish , loved them . Again you made me hungry !
