I've watched and tried a lot of techniques for this. This guy nailed it. My dog finally picked up on it immediately. Just follow his instruction.

Love your videos! I really appreciate how you have genuinely untrained dogs in the video as you work through the process of training them raw. Much better than other dog trainers!

I am commenting late, but this is one of the most helpful and unique techniques I have seen. People keep suggesting toy swapping and nailing recall, but none of that works. My dog just does not believe coming to me is more fun than keep away. I am going to try this with the long leash in my park. I tried this at home and it was promising.

Another great tip i used on my dutchie when he was younger was the trading game. That requires two equal toy´s, when he´s going after the first toy im picking up the second one, he will then try to take em both, but i will only trade once he have let go of the first one

I tried this mate but when I put the lead on. she wouldn't go and get the toy. it was like the lead was distracting her. each time she's run to go the lead would touch her and she'd be weirded out and leave it
@Mydogtrainingspot4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, some dogs are sensitive about lines dragging on the ground. You can desensitize a line dragging, but I would probably go another route. Lots of options depending on the dog. If your dog likes tug, you could try this method in a small room without the line and try to get them to engage with you.

@@Mydogtrainingspot cheers mate. she's a GS x BM 10 month. she was really good at returning a few months ago but now she likes to run off a lot with it (since introducing the tug game) I was going to try putting the toy on a lead instead and lure her back that way?

Is there a chance that it's inappropriate to use a ball on a string that is nice to chew? Meaning the dog is more attracted to chewing than tugging?

Just tried this with my Doberman. It works amazing until she figured out the treat reward and now she just wants the treat… I figure I’ll take a break until tomorrow then repeat. Maybe less treats?? I only gave her one treat per successful ‘drop it’. Maybe we only do treats for ‘drop it’ specifically and the play time is for bringing it back?
@Mydogtrainingspot Жыл бұрын
Sometimes you can lower the value of the treat. For example if you are using dried liver the dog loses interest in playing but if you use kibble then the reward may be enough to drop but will resume playing. There are several methods to remedy this but kinda hard without interacting with the dog. Try experimenting!
@katfish4386 Жыл бұрын
@@Mydogtrainingspot I tried again today… their treat is pretty low in value as they won’t eat most treats (human food diet). I actually think I’m playing tug for too long it’s maybe confusing her/lacking interest. Thank you so much for your reply!
@Mydogtrainingspot Жыл бұрын
@@katfish4386 it sounds like you have some experimenting to do to figure it out. If I could give you quick solution, I would. Trainers will always have a dog that needs training or help when it comes to a German shepherd 🤦🏼♀️ Lol they are sweet but also a pain 😋 I dog sit one and she loves me and I love her but she can be annoying lol and a pain kinda like a younger sibling xD
