The Guide elaborates on the techniques used on the show. The examples given in the kzbin.infoUgkxECnmSvBSv_NGWx4_ChD73pF3NYZwI2F3 are helpful and some of the techniques suggested very useful. One such technique/tool suggested was the lure stick to encourage a small dog to keep up with the heel command. I have a small dog who lags behind smelling any and everything and find it hard to keep bending over while walking to his level. The lure stick is great also for another dogs focus and sprinting at anything that catches her eye. The stories about different dogs, their different temperaments, have been helpful, especially Lulu's: After reading about Lulu's challenges I felt relief concerning one of my rescues that I have had for 10 years. Over many years I have checked out many training books from the library, watched different shows, DVDS, bought training books, taken lessons and this book is the best by far! Kindness, patience and perseverance works.

I found out my female German Shepherd was deaf, but declined to return her. Training took on a different method. No voice commands, just hand signals and eye contact. Results were rewarding for both the dog and me.

I have used a small flash-light to "clicker-train" deaf dogs. I have also worked with a client who used a vibration collar. All the dog needs is a unique "mark" signal that indicates the instant s/he is doing the right thing. The first step in creating "clicker-savvy" dog who is deaf is to train default eye-contact so the dog is constantly "checking-in" with you so that s/he can see your hand-signals and see the light flash during training sessions. Here is a good article from another KPA-CTP www.clickertraining.com/node/1846

Your training is like magic with my new, 1 y/o, German Shepard rescue! For a dog that less than two weeks ago didn't know ANY commands.. He now sits, walks on leash, stays, plays fetch with return drops.. all because I watch and learn from your videos. then apply your techniques throughout the day during common routines.

Brandon mcmillan is the most gentle, thorough and effective dog i've ever encountered. My friend and i love the dog show and never miss it. So many times we've shed a tear of happiness just seeing a dog's life changed forever when proper training is applied and they go on to live their lives the way they should. I have brandon's book kzbin.infoUgkxK8-VQWpYThx4IC6MiIvb6VS1ebTzzdxq in two formats. Not only the paperback version but also the kindle version to refer to when i don't have the paperback along with me. I have used his methods with my cavalier kc spaniel and turned a non-disciplined furbaby into a companion who has traveled thousands of miles with us across the country. He is a near perfect dog thanks to brandon's methods. I don't get one cent of kickback for recommending brandon but i do it because i love dogs. They deserve to be given a chance. Brandon's mission in life - to rescue dogs and place them in a forever, happy home - is very dear to my heart. I recommend his methods to anyone who has a dog - young or old. I've seen him take even old dogs and teach them. Brandon was an animal trainer before his current mission. His parents were animal trainers. His methods are the best i've ever found. Your furbaby will thank you for spending the money on this book. Don't hesitate - it is worth every cent.

Hey all, I just wanted to share my experience teaching my puppy to fetch. I started off following the instructions in this video but was having trouble getting my dog to hold the ball for an extended period of time. He would take the ball, but then kind of throw it aside almost immediately. Eventually he figured out that the important thing was that he pick the ball up in his mouth and would pick up and drop the ball from the floor. After this, I just started rolling the ball to him and rewarding him for picking it up. I started to roll the ball a little farther and only rewarded him when he brought the ball most of the way back. It only took 1 session of this before he totally got the idea. Were sitting here playing fetch as I type this. So if you're having trouble moving you're dog past the first step, you might want to try jumping straight to retrieval.

I came here to ask this exact question. I'm playing with a rope because she is more eager to actually grab that, but she drops it on the floor immediately for the reward. As soon as I try to stop giving rewards when she drops it immediately because I want her to hold it longer, she'll look at me like "why don't I get the treat this time" and right after will be less inclined to do it again. Hopefully throwing the rope on the floor will work!

This is genuinely the best fetch video I've ever seen. I've always been a natural at training my dogs to fetch, but I haven't owned a dog in so many years and I'm getting a new puppy soon that I wanted to brush up on my knowledge. Every video I stumbled upon didn't seem to really explain it in the way it made sense. This is the best video explanation on how to teach a dog to fetch it. I saw Zak's video which puts soooooo much emphasis on making the toy 'interesting' and it's just too high energy and fake, and unnecessary. Sure you could teach a dog like that, but it is just unnecessary. It's putting it down into these single components, and then gradually putting them together that makes it work. It doesn't have to be 'interesting', it just has to be rewarded and positive, for each little step. The dog starts to understand very quickly too (and will naturally begin to enjoy it), rather than having to jump through hoops for your dog to think some toy is interesting, and to think you are 'interesting', and to make everything so over the top. Dogs have these skills inside them, it's just a matter of 'setting them up for success' and bringing these skills out in the right way. This is the best video for that.

Try using a lower reward food. Play a game of chase on the floor with the toy to make the toy 'high value' and praise for any time he has it in his mouth, then use relatively bland but still interesting food. For example, pieces of kibble, pieces of milkbone, dry pieces of banana. You can also bake your own treats made from oat, banana, and peanut butter and cut them into tiny pieces.

In the second your dog lets go of the toy, because it is boring, you say "leave it" and immediately toss the toy and reward your dog with it. My dog got the hang of it pretty quickly. Emmy Dee - try using a long line, so the dog has to come back & the game can’t turn into chase. A lab should be food driven, so make sure to reward with a small amount of their favorite food. If you make it the only time they get this treat, that may help too. Also, knock some energy out of them before teaching new things, by being less energetic they can focus better. Good luck!

I have a Belgium Shepherd, she is 7 months old. She is bored to play fetch, even if she likes biting her toys or to be rewarded. What can I do?
@TrainingPositive
@TrainingPositive 6 жыл бұрын
AnotherMakeupWorld if your dog looks unmotivated there could be a lot of reasons for it. Try to keep the training sessions short and positive with lots of praise. Mix it up and teach your dog some other tricks also to get her excited about working with you. You can also try using a different food reward that your dog really likes.

Bella Lee that’s very common. Keep working on the hold and every time your dog holds it for even a fraction of a second longer, reward with extra enthusiasm and a few extra pieces of the reward you are using.

You need to teach "drop it". In the house, hand him a toy he likes. Then put a treat right in front of his nose while saying 'drop it.' Hopefully he will drop the item to get the treat. Repeat until he learns what it means.

Having the same issue... I just trained the dog that she will get food for putting the object in her mouth, she has to drop the object to eat her treat... It seems like it will be impossible to train her to hold it now.

Nicholas Simpson I think you guys will eventually get it if you stay consistent!! The part where your dog bites is already great progress. Start clicking and rewarding him just for touching the toy. Once he catches on increase the duration. It will take awhile trust me my dog did the same at first too.

Yeah I'd recommend just being patient and rewarding for tiny bits of progression before giving the dog a chance to drop it or start playing with the toy. Dogs get frustrated easily so start with a couple seconds and increase the time second at a time. You'll get there, good luck.

Elinore Koenigsfeld you should be able to do all of this sitting in a chair. I chose to kneel because it was easier to demonstrate for the camera this way. You could also consider having the dog on an elevated surface like a large steady table. Just be sure that the dog is comfortable and secure. Good luck!
