Great video. Thank you for sharing your tips and strategies. I've been setting some sound boundaries recently because with respect to your tip #5 I too have been feeling overwhelmed with all the content on my phone, social media, television etc. I have set an evening boundary phone and TV off downstairs between 7 and 8. When I go upstairs to my bedroom that is my 'safe zone' no food, no TV. My phone goes on do not disturb and I play a meditation or read a book, journal and then sleep. This was hard at first but has gotten easier over time. Love your videos!

Something that has been life-changing for me is accepting that goals change and that’s OK. Circumstances change, some goals just take longer, sometimes I realize what I wanted a year ago is no longer desirable. It’s not a failure to adjust goals as life goes along.

Dear Vera, thank you for being you. Your calmness and gentleness is like a medicine for me. Just when I'm having the worst day, bad weather, bad news, bad experience, unable to focus, getting so down, you come to remind me it's ok to feel that way. I'm not super human, I'm allowed to not being there all the time. It is not what others want from me, it is about not wanting everything from me. Thank you.

I find that silence has been so key to my well-being. I used to have music or the television on all of the time; now I find those things annoying at times, and really just want silence, especially when I've been overloaded with work, etc. Thank you as always for these great tips and reminders.

I really crave white space and yet I still find it uncomfortable because I'm a recovering productivity addict. I can drive home In silence, while I process my day and then sleep better. Alternatively, I can listen to academic audio books, come home more frazzled, not remember what I heard, and then lie awake processing my day because my mind needed that space. It's really a no brainer but it's my current area of discomfort to sit with silence.

@@louisehorsfall9400 I think we all have to find the way that uniquely works for us. I used to find music the thing that was most relaxing during my work commutes, but slowly that changed as I got older.

Hi Vera! What you said about the silence thing, I'd love to just listen to the sound of silence but I find it very alien as, like most people I have to have something to stimulate my mind and as a consequence my mind just wanders off a lot and I can't concentrate for long. Also, some thing I've learnt that have changed my outlook on life is: * Happiness is a choice * The only person that can change things for you in your life, is you * Contrast to the happiness thing, its OK not to be OK and when someone says don't cry or don't be angry, don't listen. Be angry, cry, scream, whatever get is out of your system (within reason) and then you cleanse reset and try again * You can either learn or win, you never fail Much love, Chloe xx ❤️

Hi. If you want to welcome silence in your life. Go down to the beach sit silently listening to the waves. As time goes on, you will be acclimatised to silence...
@SimpleHappyZen2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing Chloe, love your input too!! About silence and quieting the mind, it's actually really normal for the mind to start chatting when you sit still. Basically, it always does that, but now you're becoming aware of it. So the point isn't really do quiet the mind and get rid of any distractions and thoughts. The point is more to just sit with the thoughts and observe them as an outside observer, instead of being consumed by them. After a while, sometimes you'll notice the mind becomes a bit quieter. And sometimes not :) Both are fine. :) Also, if you do have access to a beach, I can see that being really lovely :)

I loved all of your points here and I agree with them completely and YES..what you said at 8:35...so true! This happened to me once with someone who called themselves my friend but then got upset with me when I did not invite her to a graduation event and then stopped talking to me nicely when I let my Facebook account go for a bit to detox. I eventually realized that this person was not meant to be a part of my life any longer and that that was truly okay. It wasn't my job to try to keep explaining and apologizing because her feelings were hurt. I'm not responsible for how other people might feel so I now remember that truth and I do not take on other people's hurt feelings. It's still hard. But overall, we are called to be loving toward others, even when they think differently then we might think about something. Here's my (5) things that changed my life forever! 1 Accepting Christ as my Lord & Savior🥰❤ 2 Living out my faith by trusting that God is there for me and seeking him 1st 3 Finding a church family who truly cares bc support is so uplifting :) 4 Beginning my minimalism jouney and purging probably 75% of what we own 5 Learning that you can't please everyone and getting peace with that

Definitely each of the 5 points you mentioned I struggle to keep in check sometimes, especially with being on my phone too often, knowing well how marketing can just be everywhere when I don't actively notice it and try to ignore it and with perfectionism. Although I feel with perfectionism I do really try to stick with just doing my best and knowing that for most people it will be more than enough of an effort with the quality of my work, productivity etc, rather than my internal sky high perfect expectations, which only stresses me out unnecessarily. Thank you for another great video Vera, exactly when I needed to take all the advice on board the most.

Hi Vera. Listening to your point 5 I began to think about the difference between stillness and silence, understanding silence can help a person achieve stillness but is not necessary. As for unconventional or strange, realizing that we do, indeed, travel through life on our own, being among others who might or might not support us from their separate, private journey.
@SimpleHappyZen2 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert! Yes good point! Actually, I was also thinking about the difference between stillness and silence while I was filming this hahaha. It's like a thumb is a finger, but not all fingers are thumbs 🤔

It’s funny because you were talking about marketing everywhere and it was cut by an ad 😄 I remember going home after 1 week hiking in nature, I was in the subway and I was feeling annoyed whithout knowing why. After I few stops I realized that I was reading all the ads that are displayed at every station, and each of them made me strongly react. I hadn’t seen an ad in a week, and suddenly I saw dozens. I was thinking stuff like « this is stupid » or « this is sexist » or « this is not how it works » etc. That’s what an ad is designed for ! They want to grab your attention so that you remember the brand. Even if they look stupid. Unfortunately I can’t remove the ads from the subway :) but I look at them differently now.

I can definitely resonate with the whole idea of overconsumption when it comes to my media usage, especially with KZbin or even Instagram on occasion. It really just triggers all sorts of anxiety induced emotions, and what doesn't make this any easier for me to combat this is when life outside of the Internet becomes too much for me to handle. If there's one thing though that helps me when all else fails, it's just talking about it to someone, whether it's someone in my family or my boyfriend. I feel there is no silence anymore, I live in a suburb and I just want to escape to the country somewhere. It's very difficult to find some quiet.
@darrenpierson2650 Жыл бұрын
I watched a documentary on people becoming Buddhist and living in Plum Village. During this they had a retreat and someone asked about silence. This isn’t the exact quote but the person explained that “silence is a strong, powerful, and loud noise” . I never thought of it until I did my second job in silence. I didn’t listen to music or audio books, but just did my job and I felt so much better when I was through. I should say I clean my church so I am the only person there. It helped to realize how much input we gave in our lives every day as you said. I work at making sure I get this time every day, it’s refreshing!

I would say an important component of this is not blaming ourselves for our perfectionism or sensitivity. Most likely it developed in early childhood in response to an adverse experience. Something felt out of control so now we want (quite unerstandably) to be IN control as a coping mechanism. Try and hold yourself gently :) I know it's easier said than done.
@Milsukix32 жыл бұрын
I think it's also important what media we consume and that we should be deciding what we want to consume. That's why I prefer youtube over everything because I can choose actively what and who i want to watch. This doesn't happen in the case of tiktok, instagram etc. And it's important who we decide to watch, as I find your videos really soothing and if I hear your voice in my head later on it's not a problem haha! Thank you for the videos, keep on doing good job :)

All what you said is so true ❤️ For me game changers are: saying out loud! how I feel. It is so great, f.e. I say: I'm so tired of this cleaning, and I feel so unmotivated, so helpless, please, do understand me, clean the room and I go for a walk, and get out of a room when I'm really angry (what is difficult is to catch that moment beforehand and actually leave the room instead of getting into fight with words) and joga. That changed a lot.

I had to cut the news out ages ago. I have found that most things to do with the news aren’t necessary for me to ever even know about at all. Another thing I’ve learned is that someone will be saying something about it somewhere if it’s important enough for me to be aware of. And yet most times, I really didn’t even need to know anyways. I just carry on with my mostly “news” free life and there isn’t really one detrimental thing about it. Besides “news” these days is just another fancy word for gossip and people just slandering other people and a lot of folks running conspiracy theories and creating so much conjecture and at times people just starting unnecessary drama. (Lol. Yes. I live in the US). I find it utterly pointless and annoying anymore. The most recent thing I did was discover just how much I could block on FB. Lol. (I have so little use for it these days anyways and I find it so “tired). Block. Unfollow. Snooze. Delete ads. Just like decluttering “stuff” in my home, it really made a huge difference with what now comes to the forefront on my news roll. I had already nixed highly toxic people and posts but there was still a lot of pointless fodder going on there that was both annoying and distracting.

@@SimpleHappyZen So true. The song “Jamming Me” by Tom Petty comes to mind there also. Lol. I think it’s perfectly fine to get angry enough about it to stop the madness. As the song says....give ‘em all some place to go...🤣🤣 Some of them I had to also give my middle finger to...on their way out of my life. Lolol. And yah. ZERO regrets about any of it.

I also have found that silence, at certain times, is so important to my mental state or else I feel too much anxiety

As a Christian we are called to be set apart and NOT to follow what the rest of the world is doing. So we take rest in not following the crowds or the new trends. Also I used to be hard on myself always busy and I had a burn out. I have learned self care and now that my house is declutterd I don't have to worry much my house stays clean.
