Faction: The Italian Army
The Italian Army during the second world war was a Royal Army with King Victor Emmanuel III as Commander-in-Chief . However dictator and Prime Minister Mussolini and the facist party were in true control of the Italian Army even if he had to ask permission from the king.
The Italian Royal Army had tested itself during the conquest of Ethiopia from 1935 to 1936, the Spanish Civil War from 1936 to 1939, and the invasion of Albania in 1939.

The Italian army is what happens when your adequate troops go without supplies, sufficient food and water, logistical support, air to ground support, a competent officer's corps, or adequate weaponry. @tootyfruity70

They left before anyone knew there was going to be a war... no one knew Franz Ferdinand was going to be assassinated... SO they didn't really bail out of the alliance before or at the start o"the war" because they didn't even know there was going to be "the war". As for WW2 they switched sides as they switched governments the man who aligned Italy with Germany was no longer in power. It would have been a betrayal had Mussolini done it but it wan't him it was the king who had only aligned with Germany as he had to otherwise Mussolini would have deposed him

@@Centurio_1 Even the average Italian soldiers received a lot of praise from their opponents and German counterparts. They were cited as having some of the worst leadership of any country in the fight though. Their entire officer corps held onto the 19th century idea of buying your way into rank, well trained or not. A total lack of meritocracy. Throw in that many of the upper echelons were treated like prizes for Mussolini's cronies and it's no wonder they couldn't get their act together.

Just to join the discussion. Maybe italian army wasn't the best but they fought bravely, look at the battle of El Alamein were the talian 185th airborne division "folgore" repelled all the british armored attacks before being destroyed, or the russian retreat, were disbanded italian and Axis forces managed to break the russian encirclement (battle of nikolajewka). And if we want to talk about the other branches of the military italian anti tank guns were able to knock out T-34s and italian tank destroyers were armed with deadly 75 and 105 mm guns, without talking about the navy and the fighters. "The german soldier amazed the world The italian bersagliere amazed the german soldier" .Erwin Rommel.

Italian military history in 20th century can be described with the sentence: extremely good soldiers, horrible leaders. If you are an history buff and you look up in some single battles chronicles you will find out such heroic acts carried against all odds by the Italians to make most of the other armies look like children. Just look up the Italian front in ww1, it was by far the most terrible and difficult one, in comparison western front was a picknick with the family.

"History's written by the victors." Most of the things you hear about Italian troops and equipments is either British and american propaganda or straight out bias. The British often looked upon Italian guns as not that good, the M30 surely didn't work when in sandy conditions, but then again, the Italians had things like the MAB 1938, probably the most high quality and accurate submachine gun of the war, while the american Thompsons were very heavy and cumbersome, had a terribly high recoil and fire rate combined with a powerful but limited in range cartridge and the British had literally a tube which used MP-40 mags which would jam every 100 rounds. Go deeper than what you hear.

To be fair, the tanks the Italians used were based on the vickers 6 ton, which was an extremely reliable tank platform, and proved to be useful in the Spanish Civil War among other conflicts. The Italians didn't have muc in terms of Tanks, bur they did what they could with what they had, and at the begining of WW2, Italian tanks were actually pretty good against other tanks like the T26, A13 Mk1/2, and Stuart.

Yes, it was heavily defended for a trench war, not for air supremacy and Blitzkrieg. German army cocked the French and Brits in the first half of the war, and most French troops came out of their trenches famined and surrounded. The Brits lost control of the North sea in the same way: old naval tactics. You're the one whom attacked France to begin with, all I'm saying is that the Allies got humiliated in the first half of WW2, France especially. This doesn't change the fact the French army won major battles in the later half, and that the allies won...

Yeah. The Italians had it tough during the second war, but they did have a 90mm cannon that was the equivalent of Germany's famous flak 88. Jessica Grey Is Patton a historian ?No he was a dumb moron and useless general who wanted a War with the USSR after beating Hitler. Also he never said that, you confused the Regular Army and the Resistance. It was Eisenhower who said that the French Resistance represented 15 divisions (650 000 men). The Free French Army had 500 000 troops by 1942, 750 000 by 1943, at D-Day in 1944 the Free French Army had 1 100 000 soldiers (D-Day on wich "Ike" said that 80% of informations for the landing come from the Resistance). By V-D in May 1945 the French Army (wich enroled 40% of the Resistance) had 2 100 000 soldiers (2.6 million troops for the entire Free French Forces 1940-1945). That represented the fourth largest Allied Army in WW2 after the Soviet, American and British army. All my numbers and infos come from reliable and secure historical sources.

Be OBJECTIVE!! The main military powers that fought for years in WW2 were six :On one side Germany ,Italy and Japan .On the other side USA ,Russia,England .That's it .Italy fought on two continents and four seas with 3.400.000 men (considering army ,navy ,aviation ,auxiliaries).Let's see some points: 1)First of all this video doesn't explain that before the ww2 Italy had two war campaignes in Ethiopia(1935-1936) and Spain civil war(1936-1939) and used a lot of resources to fight and finish those campaignes, for this reason wasn't ready in 1940. 2) REGIA MARINA:The Italian fleet was the fourth in the world in 1940, it had the same tonnage of navy like France .(It had two big problems :Italy didn't have the radar and any aircraft carrier .) .It had very great successes with submarines ,they fought in fourth different seas:Mediterranean Sea, in the Red Sea,in the Persian Gulf and in the Atlantic Ocean. ,with 1750 missions and the sinking of 132 merchant ships and 18 military ships,Italy lost 128 submarines of the totaly 172.The X Mas ,was a special unit of assault and raid of the Regia Marina ,with great success of sinking to the Royal Navy. 3)REGIA AERONAUTICA:The Italian Air Force had in 1940: 1300 medium bomber ,1160 fighter aircaftt, 500 recoinassence aircraft .It had very good airplanes like Macchi 202 and Macchi 205 .Italy built from (1940 to 1943) 11508 airplanes(always less in comparison with the othern nations). Only the fourth squadron destroyed 585 airplanes plus 215 probably .The SM 79 was an amazing medium bomber ,very effcient as torpedo bomber ,infact sinked a lot of military ships (Fearless ,Bedouin ,Nestor ,Foresight,Pozarica ecc).The sum of the official ranking of the(only) flying aces is of 1225 shooting down aircrafts.(The highest is Franco Lucchini with 26). 4)REGIO ESERCITO AND SPECIAL FORCES The Italian Army fought in Russia,Yugoslavia,Greece,North Africa ,and South -East Africa with 1.800000 soldiers in 75 divisions(not all well-equipped). Very good were the machine guns Breda 30 and 36, the mortar 81mm, Beretta 38 submachine .The Special forces like Folgore ,Bersaglieri ,Alpini ,The X Mas ecc were very combative .The Folgore fought in North Africa for 3 years stopping the best English troops. 5)VICTORIES AND HEROIC BATTLE: - El Alamein in the 1942 -The last charge of Izbusenskij of the cavalry Savoy in Croazia in the 1942 - The sinking of the Queen Elizabeth and Valiant in the 1941 -Pantelleria air-naval battle with the sinking of the Burdwan ,Chan and Kentucky and the damage of many others in the 1942 -The battle of August 1942 with the sinking of Manchester ,Cairo and the damage of Nigeria ,Kenya ,Brisbane ecc,the sinking of York and Pericles in the Sudan Bay 1941 , - Italian conquest of British Somalia - 1940 -Italian conquest of Cassala,Gallabat and Kurmuk (British-Egypt Sudan)1940; So there are a lot of victories of Italy in ww2(i have wrote only some) ,but Italy lost the war and the winners write the history for this reason there are a lot of fake videos like this .But don't worry you can read books and check on internet .And don't forget ITALY was the first nation to use airplanes in combat in Libia in 1911 and to built the first jet plane Campini Caproni without propeller. Also did a lot of world records in the 30s .Bye

Italy is actually the second most successful nation in war since "more modern times" only beaten by France. Look it up. Also, WWI is not how Americans view it and talk about it. Italy didn't switch sides all of a sudden, they didn't enter the war and waited to break the pact with the central empires because they were tired of Austria, and then they won all by themselves.

Gangstah Cat It's hilarious, a big and powerful nation like Austria-Hunagry defeated by the crumbling and disorganized White Army (Russians) and the never ending waves of screaming Bersaglieri and artillery shells on the Italian side.

Fun fact: Im related to someone who saw an injured american soldier in Italy, and helped him recover. In case you dont know the punishment for that was public execution. They were never caught, and the civil war was won by the South. thats why I hate when people say italy switched sides.
@Prauwlet213
@Prauwlet213 3 жыл бұрын
@Sursumkorda yes, they did, but because the government changed. The partisans took over italy and switched sides because they hated facism, not because italy was losing. You wouldnt say that america switched sides against slavery in their civil war. I am actually from a family torn apart by the italian civil war, and members of families killed each other.

As somebody already mentioned I'd like to hear about Canada in WW2. I'm Canadian/Italian, and I'd like to hear how they were more used by the British, rather than make (most) of their decisions on their own. Kind of like how Canada was used more as a unit than a Nation. I love Canadian WW2 history because it proved that Canadians could be relied on by powers like Britain and the US. My Nonno had fought in Sicily, around the same time my Great Uncle landed in Italy. My Nonno wasn't in the main defensive, and saw more combat during the retreat, while my great uncle was part of the core offensive. So the chances of them fighting in the same battle is astronomically low. When I asked my Great Uncle and Nonno about their morale and thoughts through the battle, they had polar opposite responses. My Great Uncle said that the only time he was able to feel fear was when he was on his way there, and when the battle was over, since he didn't have time to worry about fear, and the progress that they were making fortified the will to fight. My Nonno on the otherhand first had his best friend killed when his friend took over my nonnos patrol duty - it was a "should have been me" moment. After that, he had to March by foot for reinforcements, so he was exhausted, only to arrive to a clearly lost battle. He was exhausted and griefstricken only to reinforce an army that's about to surrender. The amount of things that unfolded in WW2 will make for a virtually endless supply of stories. Unfortunately, these stories are going to soon come to an end as old age takes away the veterans. R.I.P. To veterans of ALL nations of ALL wars. No matter what the fighting was for, they still had the bravery and courage to fight for it. That is something that I know that I wouldn't be strong enough to do, and is something that deserves absolute respect.
