We are grateful for a bountiful growing season here in Alaska but with summer's end nearing, we switch gears to harvest mode. The consistent rain and cooler temperatures have produced some of our largest garden vegetables to date. Next up, preserving all of this wonderful food!
We appreciate you tagging along for our Alaskan adventure 😀
Thank you for watching and supporting our channel! 💙

Those giant turnips (which are glorious) can be sliced thinly in “rounds” and used as a faux tortilla. They pair really well with spicy veg based insides (also pickled stuff) or salted/seasoned fish.

I think the combination of cooler weather with immense amounts of sun during summer is what makes things grow so huge up there, in such a short time. Here in North Texas, we can technically grow year round but by the time our days are the longest, they are also scorching hot and dry so the plants struggle. Kind of frustrating! Also, the pests are crazy here, especially the fire ants 🥴

Lovely to see. My dad was a big time believer in a five year compost system. Only after 5 years of tender love and care would compost make it into his garden because he hated weeds. Man he had patience and grew a great garden like you do. Nice work and great feasting

Y'all's harvests are always so amazing! I've been in a slump this year. My hubby was badly injured at work in July and it sent me into a "who cares?' mood. I'm looking forward to getting the Fall garden put in. Besides the injury it has been so hot here this year as well. And when I say hot, I mean over 100 degrees every day for over 8 weeks with no rain. Since Spring we've only gotten just under an inch of rain. It's a depressing gardening year. So, I am so glad to share in the fruits of y'all's labor.

You two are awesome! And, what a harvest! Always amazed about the bountiful cool season crops you're able to harvest...understandably the Peppers and Tomatoes suffer a bit because of the short growing season, but I wonder whether you would have more success with those crops if planted less densely, and/or if you could maybe build a separate "hot house" just for those crops - could be something very simple, without a shade cloth, but 4 or 6 mill greenhouse covering, with enough spacing in-between plants to enable sunshine all around. Love you guys...keep giving us your updates, views and experiences of the great State of Alaska!

I can’t believe how fast the veggies grow up there, and the size of that stuff. Wow! Must be the massive amount of daily sunlight in summer. Here in AZ, we get plenty of sun, but it’s hot as hell here. Three crops in the growing season, water is the limiting factor.

Az sure is good for growing during the monsoons and also the low areas in the winter! When we lived there I loved the oranges in the winter!

Try pruning you tomato plants on a weekly basis this way the plants don't get too bushy and the tomatoes will be more exposed to the sun and they will ripe much faster in the summer season.
