Hey Moo. Thanks for the instructional video. I followed your recipe and brined tray bait last week. My question is how long does the brined anchovy stay "good" if kept in the refrigerator? Thanks!
@MooMooOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
I haven't kept it in the fridge up to 2 days and it was still good.
@michaeluchida56175 жыл бұрын
@@MooMooOutdoors I really notice how well the brined chovies last vs. non-brined. The non-brined anchovies usually don't last more than a few hours out of the freezer. The brined anchovies last forever, it seems, even in the water. Thanks again for the clear and easy to understand video.
@ishwithfish5 жыл бұрын
thx moo! if you freeze the leftovers in a tray without being submerged in brine, are they just as effective the next trip? or do you recommend fresh brine for each trip?
@MooMooOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
I personally do fresh brine after freeze. If I'm fishing again in a couple of days, I just put it back in the fridge submerged in brine.
@johnrillamas5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing. Tried out this recipe for yesterdays halibut trip. Worked great, the trap hook stayed in the tail very well. Do you just squirt some ProCure, (or other brand), into the mix to add a scent? What do you do with theleft over bait? does it keep well in the fridge? Or Freezer?
@MooMooOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
I'm happy that it worked for you. Comments like this gives me motivation to make more videos. I never used any scents but yes I believe any bait scent can be added. If I'm fishing again in a couple of days, I just put in back in the fridge. More than a couple of days, I take them out of the brine and put it in the freezer then put them in fresh brine the day before fishing.

It is better with powdered skim milk because it firms the bait more but you can get away without but of course not as firm

Is using tray anchovies important or the frozen bag ok? how much of a difference is there?
@MooMooOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
I typically use bag anchovies for halibut and tray for chrome. Tray anchovies have all scales, much more shiny, more firm and they will last more than a day if you keep it cold.

They are hard to find. I got them from Amazon (link in description). You might be able to find them at Ace Hardware. Yes, you can do without. Bait won't be as shiny but it will still be firm and stay intact.

quick tip, if you want a vacuum seal on the zip lock, just submerse the bag with the top open into water. The water will push the air out for you and just seal when the bag is down to the top of the seal. Quick, easy and no air in the bag.
