Doing this job now. Stopped to get parts. Not nearly as tough as I thought it would be. Get the heavy duty 19 socket. Part # 77080. It a game changer. 2007 Hona Odyssey. Odyssey World is a great forum. Print out the checklist.

There is no way to thank you. I watched your video three times in a row before I started working on my car. I brought a 55-inch TV next to me and played your video. Then I started working, step by step. I do not deny that there were some difficulties, but they were overcome without problems. The work took me around. 10 hours, and when I finished, before I started the car, I had a scary feeling and a shaking hand. Finally, I started the car and everything was fine. I saved a lot of money, thanks to you.

You're most welcome, my pleasure. I know the feeling of anxiety- I felt the exact same thing when I was 19 years old and had just rebuilt the engine in my 93 Camaro Z28 by myself (warped heads) with just a Haines repair manual. Started it up fingers crossed and it was such a relief when I realized I did everything correctly and she ran better than ever. After that I knew I was capable of anything and started working on cars regularly...

Great video! I found a way to remove that stingy piece without removing the computer! I went from underneath and used a “serpentine belt remover tool”! It’s super slim and let’s you fit a 14mm socket right in there. It doesn’t ratchet, but once you get it loose enough you can unscrew by hand with the socket. Hope this helps someone!

Such a great video. I love how you explain what we’re taking off and why, instead of just saying “remove this, remove that”. I learn better by understanding why we’re doing things. Thank you for this sir

I’ve got to do this on a 2001 odyssey J series 3.5 V6 I don’t have the tools or the confidence yet but I have two friends that have done the job themselves and said they would help. I love how detailed and precise you explained everything you were doing. I only wish I will have the same confidence when I do this. Thanks will keep this video as a reference.

I'm self taught, I've only got this way from hands on experience forcing myself to learn and be independant. I started 20 years ago and never looked back. These days it's super easy because the internet and videos like this show you step by step everything you need to do, provided you find the right video like mine. And you got buddies that have done it before so you are set! Make sure they teach you along the way instead of just doing it all for you 👍

you need to install the VCM Muzzler to disable the VCM before it destroys your engine. I saw the ECO light on during your test drive which means it's still activated and slowly killing this motor

Honda recommend to start putting the belt from the bottom first , right crankshaft and left crankshaft , that's why you got in trouble trying to put the belt in.

TIP: In transferring the lines to the new belt. You can turn the old belt inside out. MESH the teeth with the new belt. And transfer the lines (al be it 1/2 tooth off) You cant mess up on the count of the teeth.

That hydraulic tensioner is known to leak and loose its tension and make clicking sound, I bet that was the tapping sound you heard before changing it.

Very detail-oriented. I have the exact same engine in my acura rdx 2015. I do minor repairs like oil changes and brakes but this job is too complicated for me. I only have 70K miles now but I'm hoping to push it to 140K before I take it in instead of the recommended 100K. I drive responsibly. Meaning I don't redline it so hopefully that's ok. The owner of this Odyssey was lucky enough to push it to 165K before this major service.

It may not have been the original belt in this video that was replaced, it's hard to tell. Flooring it and mileage isn't the only thing that determines how long the belt will last- age and atmosphere contribute as well. If the belt snaps, the engine blows...

Not sure why so many tutorials are made without mentioning the socket sizes. That would make things infinitely more useful.

Will removing the camshaft pulleys affect tdc in anyway? Does turning camshaft pulleys independently ruin anything in anyway? Not sure where but i read something about crank and cams not supposed to be turned independently when belt is off or did i read and mistaking something else different entirely ? Thanks for the video btw!
@BuckeyeBallistics
@BuckeyeBallistics 3 ай бұрын
Correct- the components must move in unisom. If either cam or the crankshaft turns without the others also turning in unisome with it, it will be out of time.

did you actually push it to 165k without changing timing belt? I noticed the letters are still visible on the belt so it shouldn't be that many miles. Just bought 2016 Od with 100k on it. Popped off the cover to check timing belt condition, still looked good but no letters or white lines on it. Just don't want to pay for a head and valve job when it broke! I figured if you can go 165k, I can go at least 120k.

It was bought with that many miles so the first thing we did was the timing belt, just in case.

I just did my timing at 105k. Timing belt had no cracks, and I think would last another 150k easy

@itscrazy - I have seen numerous vehicles with this engine blown before and around 200,000 miles due to the timing belt snapping because it was never changed. Depends on the age of the vehicle, how it was driven, how it was used, and the climate it was exposed to.

Dude you don’t have to count the teeth just keep the right side tight and a little play on the tension side
@BuckeyeBallistics
@BuckeyeBallistics Жыл бұрын
That's how you get one tooth off and then it runs like crap because it's out of time. I'd rather take extra measures with something as important as this. Better safe than sorry- measure twice cut once... however you want to say it. Also it always amazes me how people who apparently know what they are doing are for some reason watching a "how to" video. It's like going to baseball camp and trying to tell the trainers that they aren't teaching right- aren't you the one there to learn? Lmao...

Why do all you guys terrorize your impact drivers . Use 3/4 T handle with 4-foot steel pipe. Open always without problem. Edit, of course plus that Honda crank holder. Edit again. 6" or 9" 3/4 extension sitting at jack so I can turn out of wheel well area. Man 32:30 that idler to right you screw just little than it can move so you throw belt on. It is even in service manual that is free at internet.
