In short, I absolutely love the core home security/alarm portion of SimpliSafe. I've even purchased additional alarm devices (window/door components, additional motion detection, smoke alarms, glass break alarms etc.) that didn't come with the original basic/starter kit. I have been quite impressed by their ease of use and functionality.
Which brings me to last weekend. I had recently been wanting to (but too lazy) to take apart my washing machine pedestal drawer to clean out my dryer lint system that feeds outside the house). Then my water sensor alerted and we had water under the washing machine. Cleaned that up and decided to take advantage of the lint vent access, so I stitched in that surprise video.
I had also been meaning to do a follow up or update on my SimpliSafe system. Everything was great except for 1 thing...that darn white wireless WIFI camera. For me and my configuration that particular camera has been COMPLETELY unreliable. It will work once in a while and then not...usually when I most want to see something. Every time I think about calling SimpliSafe on it, it works...just like taking your car to the mechanic and telling them the strange sound it makes...except while in front of the mechanic.
So I decided to video my frustrations with the "white" camera as compared to the older wired "black" cameras (they are actually also wireless but for whatever reason SS refers to them as "wired"...too funny IMO).
So this video documents how unreliable the white camera is and how absolutely reliable the black cameras are. I gave up on the white camera and have since purchased 3 black cameras, putting them in places I tried to make the white camera work. In hindsight, I should have picked the starter package with the old, less functionally "rich" black camera instead of the newer "better" features white camera. It simply didn't work for me and my situation and I think the video demonstrates that.
