I am so happy that you have a work place again, and that it will be bigger and better than your previously cramped workstation, and fish room. You will not only have to tackle flooring and sound, but also lighting, and waterproofing wood surfaces from water damage. It seems to be an upper floor or attic space, therefore weight limit of tanks can also be an issue if you ever decide to put in a large heavy tank. Organization, planning and creating an asthetic backdrop or corner for future videos wouldn't hurt. A clean looking fish room is best fish room.

So glad you brought up the issue of hard wood floors. We just had a wood floors redone. Been debating what to put down under the tank to protect the floors from possible water damage. It’s cheaper to protect the floor than to repair after water damage.

Awesome news for you, I know my wife would love a crafting room but unfortunately we just don't really have a good space for it. One thing you might want to look into is fiberglass lynolium flooring, we used to sell a ton of it at my uncles flooring store as it was 100% waterproof and there are no seams for it to seep through. All the best and exciting project to work on

Finally got the chance to watch this video. Ending was sooo wholesome! As for the studio, I could image a long line of fish tanks with, maybe a nice custom made flowing system that would be kinda like the one in the old fish room. Maybe you could have a nice desk across from the window as your editing and maybe recording area (even though u move a lot through your house to record maybe for like a talking only vid or explanation idk). I hope you enjoy transforming your new studio and make sure to take it slow and thoughtfully!

totally a great idea to address that floor before you get tanks moving in there. when you set up the floating floor make sure you put in sufficient padding. the more padding you put in the better protected that hardwood will be. I keep my fish in the basement where my office is because i have a tile floor down here so spills just need to get mopped up. when i had a tank upstairs (I have hardwood floors through the rest of my house) it was ALWAYS a concern to make sure i kept the floors dry and protected from the tank. it was a huge pain.

On the floor, why not do a really nice clear epoxy on it? Would be protected from water but keep the awesome look of it. Also if you do any laminate on top there is a chance water seepage could get down to the natural wood and cause damage.

The epoxy coat is a neat idea but ultimately too destructive for when it is time to actually move someday. With the waterproof pergo laminate and a waterproof underlayment, I can just peel it up if I need to someday!

Interior Designer here! I think this space is wonderful. Since you already have such rich natural wood elements, why not go for the traditional Thailand aesthetic? That’s where bettas are from and it will marry well in that space. Framed prints of bamboo and tropical leaves are easy to find these days too. Excited for you!

Taylor, that new room is great, and putting down rhe laminated flooring is a must....bur make sure you put down a rubberised sheet, under the laminate, hopefully a one peice sheet. You cannot allow any water to get on that wood floor. Why not give hubby the office and you take the Master Bedroom for a super fish room...yes I think thats the way to go

Thanks Richard! I'll be using a rubber underlayment (for sound absorption) and also a waterproof sheet of underlayment for protection! Together with the waterproof laminate, caulk, and a water alarm for an instant alert in case of a mishap, I think that will all be good! 😄

That is a gorgeous space. As for the floor there is a coating that is used in decking and is water resistant. Think in that alternative.

I can't do much about the walls, but I can add some mass to the floor and treat the vents, I think that will make a nice impact. Of course I'll be testing it along the way, too!

This is a good time for a proper rest. Chances are that inspiration will strike and you'll come up with a new plan that gives you a better balance of keeping fish and being a mom of 2 little ones. 😊 Your new office looks so inviting (that window would inspire me as an artist). I look forward to seeing it come together. Personally I'd change the bare minimum to deal with the practicalities of having fish tanks in there. 😊
