I Removed Mario from Mario Odyssey

What would Mario Odyssey look like without Mario? Today we try to answer that question by playing through a Mario Odyssey challenge that removes Mario from the game and lets you complete the whole thing as Cappy! This was a ton of fun so enjoy the video!

The only thing that would make the mod even better is if Mario is put in the skeleton outfit in the very beginning. Then Cappy is legitimately carrying around his skeleton and hallucinating the entire time xD

Imagine if the body started off a little pale and would transition from kingdom to kingdom. It would get more pale until it became a zombie, and more and more flesh would disappear until moon kingdom when Mario would be just a skeleton

Cappy is already a ghost, he met mario as a ghost, and he took over his hat. Meaning only cappy had physical form. But mario was just chilling with you the whole time.

My theory is that when Mario died, he possessed the nearest living thing he could find (Cappy) and that's why you see Mario in cutscenes, he comes out for the cutscene and goes back in. And when clepto steals "Cappy" clepto steals cappy's soul and for the rest of the video Mario is possessing cappy's body without Cappy in it at all. In the festival, no one recognized Cappy for who he actually was and didn't let him participate in the festival.

Oh yeah, in a previous Fir video, Mario was indebted to the Mafia and losing coins every second, and hoping Peach could relieve him of his debt, but he died to the Mafia. That's a great callback, and headcanon for the story of this video.

Lore that I made up on the spot: This takes place five years after SMO, and Mario has died. Cappy is so depressed that he just wants to relive his old memories to the point that he hallucinates Mario. Cappy, now thinking that Mario had secretly survived, goes through all the old kingdoms that they once went through together and collecting all the same moons that they once had.

i think the reason cappy didn’t just do this in the base game is because he’s (for lack of a better word) cowardly, you see him run away from mario when they meet in the base game, mario helped cappy have the confidence to go save his sister, so i guess in this mod we just have a hyper confident cappy being haunted by the ghost of mario who wants to see this cap guy save the princess of the mushroom kingdom and his sister, following this idea the cappy that you see get taken by klepto that can’t be interacted with is the metaphorical remnant of the timid boy cappy once was

Isn't it obvious? The captures all have MARIO'S mustache, MARIO talks to the NPCs, MARIO dances to celebrate getting a moon? Guys. It IS Mario. When Mario died, he sent his spirit to possess Cappy! But don't worry, Cappy wasn't dead, of course not! Until Klepto. Klepto took Cappy's spirit, who was obviously unable to renter his body. After the Klepto encounter, you're playing as Mario... and Mario alone. Then why does Cappy still dance with Mario to celebrate moons!? His spirit is following his body, having recognized Mario controlling it. Tell me if I've missed anything.

5 years ago Mario and Cappy saved Peach and Tiara in the event known as Mario Odyssey. 2 years ago Mario passed away in a tragic accident. It took everyone by surprise, the beloved hero gone in a moment. While the people were heartbroken but moved on, those closest to him had a much harder time. Especially Cappy. Perhaps it was partly self inflicted guilt for the event. Or just trauma from the events surrounding it. He wasnt able to accept what happened to Mario. After investigation cleared Cappy for Marios death (hauling arround a corpse pretendung they are alive is very implicating afterall.) He eventually regressed back to some of the joyus times he had. When he met Mario. None of the events are happening... although some people, friends of Mario and Cappy are trying to play along, in hopes this might be what he needs to finally let go. Akwardly pretending like it was happening again. In a place of compassion even Bowser played along. Although the Broodals and other bosses were complete fabrications by Cappy's denial. Some things didnt work out at all, like the festival... no one was comfortable with Cappy bringing Marios body through that.

Alternate take. Rather then trauma. Cappy comes the dying Mario who tells him what happened. Cappy respects the fallen mario by taking the form of his cap and promising to save Peach for him. Mario’s ghost sticks around because he’s Mario he does what he wants
