the scenery doesnt really start until north of lancaster. and the west highland railway scenery starts after glasgow. doing it by non sleeper means a 5 hr train from ldn to glasgow then another three hour one to ft bill, witha change of stations in glasgow

Having taken the trip during the day, I fully recommend taking the Glasgow-Ft William leg during the day - it's gorgeous almost the entire way. Consider staying a night or two in Glasgow or scenic Edinburgh so you're not tired already of sitting in a train when it starts to get good. Alternatively, take the night train one way, then day trains on the return trip (or in reverse)! I did a two-day train roundtrip Edinburgh-Inverness-Kyle of Lochalsh-(bus)-FtWilliam-Glasgow, and while I enjoyed the scenery of every leg of it, the FtWilliam-Glasgow part was definitely the most scenic. Don't miss the train making its way up into (or down from) the Highlands an hour or so from Glasgow, snaking its way up the hillsides!

You were lucky that most things worked in your room. We did the Highlander sleeper to Aberdeen a couple of years ago, in the same Caledonian Double room. There was no running water in the coach, so the washbasin as well as the ensuite toilet and shower were all out of action. They offered us a switch to a Club Double, but we refused. Caledonian Sleeper gave us a 25% refund for the inconvenience. In addition to those issues, the Club Car hadn't been fully stocked and didn't have the full selection of food and drink - even before we left Euston. Several people were refused service because they'd completely run out of hot food before we reached Peterborough (the train ran via the ECML because of planned engineering works on the regular route), and only bar snacks were available. The coffee machine was also out of service, so they could only offer instant coffee. The staff were quite rude and seemed resigned to the fact that this service continues to have so many unpleasant problems. All in all, not really good enough for a journey that cost almost £500 one way.
@johnlang41985 күн бұрын
That's fairly reasonable, as you're travelling a fair distance, you get breakfast and accommodation for the night. Given how exorbitant rail fare can be in the UK, the price is more than fair.

We took the Caledonian Sleeper from Glasgow to London in August 2023. We had a Double Room. I was not as happy as I have been with other sleeper products. The bed was comfortable. The shower water was only cold. There was not good bag storage in room. And the window is rather small. Comparatively I have taken a lot of Amtrak Sleeper, both bedroom (preferred) and roomette (less desirable) with my wife. I also have taken, and this goes a further ways back, a sleeper from Berlin to Paris in December 2011 and a sleeper from Basel to Amsterdam in January 2012. I think I came into the Caledonian Sleeper expecting more...

@MicahTischler5 күн бұрын
The subtitles are adjustable on your end. If they're dim, that's because they're set to be dim on your device/account. They default to pure white. It may be that someone else has adjusted them on you, or that you've done so accidentally, or maybe adjusted them in the past and then forgot. Whatever the case, you can remedy the issue via the following methods: On the web, you can adjust them by going to the gear icon, then "Subtitles/CC", then click "Options" in the top right of the language selection dialog box. That will take you to the section where you can tweak all the details. In the mobile app, go to your profile, the click the gear icon, then scroll down to the "Video and audio preferences" section. Click on "Captions," and there you can make the adjustments you desire. For the TV app, go to the gear icon, then "Captions," and, finally, "Caption style."
