Love how honest and transparent you are in this video. The past few months I have started to get in that mindset of... i wanna enjoy my length and enjoy my hair how I want it. So if I wanna straighten it twice a month then I will. Life is too short to wear hair in a style you arent happy with in fear of what other people will think.

My favorite part of this video is when you spoke on your having less breakage as a straight hair natural. This is completely true!!!!! In my experience spit ends we’re inevitable when my hair was in its curly natural state. My hair broke off sooo bad that I had to get a major hair cut and start over. Shortly after, I went back to straightening my hair regularly and the breakage/split ends completely stoped! “Breakage is non-existent!” So, so very TRUE!

I've been wearing my hair natural with a press for 30 years and I still definitely have to avoid the rain, I don't think that ever changes. But I just always keep a beanie in my purse and put the beanie on when I'm outside if it's raining, it totally works and I can wear my hair in a press any time of the year as long as I have my beanie.

I saw a video today of a stylist doing a silk press and she said her client was “natural but she wears her hair straight” it was like a lightbulb came on. 💡 I’ve been natural for 7 years and it never occurred to me that I could be natural with straight hair. 🤦🏾‍♀️ I love my curl pattern, but I’m tired. 😂😂😂 Thank you for the info. 🥰

I am doing this now transitioning by being straight hair natural. I am 6 months post relaxer with zero plans to big chop. I just trim a little every 3 months. Due to my age I’m 47 and I have a family I have no desire to spends hours detangling or spending hundreds on curly hair products. I’m not worried about having rapunzel length hair I just want manageable hair without a chemical relaxer. Thank you for this video.

Beautifully informative, and true on both sides! I have learned so much about going back and fourth between the two states of curly and straight. What no one tells you is that you have to pick a side. It seems no one has the patience for staying natural until you retain the length you want lol. The "transitioning" is where you see all your breakage no matter what side you're coming from or going too. We have to train it. Natural's train theirs and get used to the routine until it takes no time at all, and Heat trained natural's have trained their's to be it's healthiest. The question is how do *you* like wearing it. That's the only thing that matters after properly taking care of it. What do you ultimately prefer. when you finally admit to yourself what you want, then do *you* boo!

THIS!!! you seriously have to pick a side. You can't want your 4c back after getting your flowy results lol. Heatless styles work great for heattrained as well so you can style without seriously damaging it. Its wayyyy better than relaxers if you mostly blowdry and flat iron on low heat so you can keep some texturr and volume

I retain length more when I regularly get silk presses and maybe go with no heat for 1-2 months. When I was doing braid out and twist outs on wet hair for 3 months my hair was so thin and broken the next time I got it silk pressed. I grew long and thick past my bra strap getting silk presses and still had a pretty curl. Then I went for shoulder length and I’m growing again. I do love a blow dry, braids for wig and then braids take down maybe 2 weeks later. It’s different.

I think this is what I’m going to do. I’ve been natural pretty much my whole life but started wearing it curly in 2012. Then I really got into protective styling and did that exclusively for years. Last summer I started to do braidouts, twists, wash n go’s etc and my hair broke ridiculously. I just got my hair straightened in the salon and I’m hoping to stretch it for a month or two before I go back for another press

From the few weeks I've been heat training, I have found waaay less breakage, single strand knots and other crap that comes from constantly needing to detangle! The longer part for me now is the deep conditioning and the blow-dry (but only because I'm extra and love to use body heat to deep condition). Its so much easier to handle my hair and it looks so much healthier. I'm at neck length now, please bow your heads and pray for shoulder length with with me🙏🏾🙆🏾‍♀️ ! I'm glad to see someone speaking the truth about the fact that if you regularly use heat on your hair, it will loosen the curl pattern. Natural hair shamers assume your hair is horribly damaged if it doesn't make those beautiful uniform tight curls when it's wet, but if you flat iron regularly, it's just a fact of life, you won't have tight perfect natural curls when it's wet, especially if your hair is fine. I don't consider it heat damaged, so glad you're educating folks about natural hair that is "heat trained".

I love keeping texture and body omg. & when you work out just slap on a wide headband (or one made from a cotton t shirt, i take 2 just incase im going overvoard and intend to sweat A LOT) & it soaks up the extra moisture. Working out grows your hair too ngl. Rn im about to get into protective styling mode until I can start off slowly by being a blow dry every month natural. :)

Hey chica, I loved this video! I’ve been natural for 4 years and I’m going to start my heat training journey ASAP! I would definitely recommend trying beautiful textures manageability system before you straighten your hair. It helps lock out humidity, I have a KZbin video on this. Definitely experiencing breakage, fairy knots, and a big headache with being natural (I don’t straighten my entire head of hair often, maybe 4 times a year. I do straighten my edges every 2-3 weeks and it funny because it still healthy, growing and minimal breakage!). My natural kinks just don’t fit me. I love curly hair, but kinky hair just isn’t it for me so I’ve resorted to wearing 3/4 wigs a majority of the time :/. Just as you said, it’s also very upsetting to grow out your hair and then you can’t even see the length because it shrinks soooo much! I want to love and enjoy my hair. So great to see how much positive energy you have in this video and how much love you have for your hair. Definitely a new subscriber ♥️.

I like this outlook. Plus personally, I think in every category of kinky, coily, hair types whether it be relaxed, straight up natural, or heat trained we all can take something to learn. Like you said ‘Now you have high porosity hair’ and maybe someone who is fully natural has high porosity hair and you can tell them what products you use to help out with your hair and they can try out those products and maybe you’ve helped them find their holy grail or not. I am fully natural myself, but I think I can get a lot to learn from you even tho you’re a heat trained natural.

Thanks for sharing girl! I’m a heat trained natural and I have no regrets either. Your hair is looking great! I need a wrapping video because you have no dents when you wear your hair out. I wrap my hair nightly and I get dents regardless of whether I use pins or not. I don’t get it. Also, how are you keeping your ends healthy? Moisturizing and sealing? Are you going to go back to the salon for professional trims or will you be keeping it up yourself? Lastly, I’ve noticed you bring your hair to the front a lot. Be careful of this because I have seen people experience breakage right in the middle (where the hair is split) and ending up having to trim higher than they wanted because of the middle gap.
@SimplySubrena
@SimplySubrena 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you love! I can definitely add a wrapping video to my list. I’ve been slacking on my moisturizing and sealing routine but I do have one to maintain my ends. The video is linked in the description box. I will be going back to the salon for all of my trims, about 2x a year so every 6 months. My hair falls to the front so I just wear it like that lol but the crown is a tricky area. Thanks for the heads up boo

I dont mind the lose curl pattern because I'm not married to my curl pattern but I have several areas that are bone straight. Looking for tips on how to minimize this. I do use heat protection when blow drying and flat ironing. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Also wondering how often should you straighten. I'm considering 2 per month.

I have had a keratin treatment on my 4c hair for over 2 years now. Just for reference my hair is right over bra strap lenght--but im pretty tall5'9--so the last time i measured it before I cut it- the longest pieces were 17-18 inches long and the shortest at my nape area were 13-14 inches long. My nape has always been short--can't seem to get it grow no matter how much i try to grow it. I recently cut it to make it super even but havent measured it yet--but i estimate the longest is 15-16 inches and shortest nape are 10-12 inches. Its at bra strap lenght though, And I can say that it depends on who does it and which one you get. I have no damage at all to my hair. After about 3-4 months it washes out and my texture returns right back to 4c hair. But, when its first done it does loosen to about 3c/4a hair. I think this is what ppl are confusing as damage. The job of the keratin treatment is to defrizz and loosen curls to quicken the styling and/or straightening process. When I straighten my hair with keratin treatment, I have very minimal breakage, its soft, quick, and more manageable during detangling. It is also like this when I just wash and style without heat--lets say twists/braids/etc. I recommend the keratin treatment to anyone who wants a temporary loosen in curl pattern and change in manageability. But remember it is temporary so after about 10-12 washes (for me) its gone so all your hair--ends, shaft and roots return to before. I also like it because when I straighten my hair the keratin makes it humidity proof almost. It last for2-4 weeks depending on if I work out regularly. I wish there were more naturals on youtube who showed off keratin treatments because they can be temporarily life changing. Its not like a relexaer where when your new growth grows back out and breaks at the line of demarcatoin because byt he time the new growth grows out, the keratin has washed out. If you do it . and dont like it--wash it out fasdter by using sulfate and salt rinses....within 2-3 washes--it'll be back to normal. I think what leads to permanent hair texture changes is that some people flat iron the hair at 450 degrees and do myltiple passses to do the keratin treatment---that can damage it. Mine is never flat ironed over 410. And only a 2-3 passes. ALso, when I straightened my hair in the past without keratin treatment 3 main problems: humidity killed it super fast, it didn't last more 4 days, and i got a few spots of heat damage....all of this disappeared with the keratin treatment. Its almost like the keratin protected my hair from heat damage. Hope this helps!

The point of me going natural was to have fun and do cute insta hairstyles n all that but my length along with different textures...I was like ok SOMETHINGS gotta give here...I just want my tighter sections (4a/4b) to look like the looser sections of my hair (3c/4a) and I stumbled across this before because I thought I had heat damage when I flat ironed my natural hair for the first time like a year ago and I’m like hold up..my curls were never “damaged” they were just stretched!

How can you tell the difference between heat trained hair and heat damage?
@chanelpink9121
@chanelpink9121 4 жыл бұрын
I’m not at all heat trained however I do know that what people call “heat damage” is not always damage, it’s just the hydrogen bonds in your hair are broken which they get broken with manipulation and it’s just permanently that way. If your hair is breaking off, super dry, stringy then your hair is damaged. But if it’s perfectly fine, just not your natural texture then you’re fine.

Pink Link oh ok, I kept cutting my hair anytime I’d see pieces of my hair that weren’t as kinky like the rest of hair anytime after I would wash my hair after a silk press, but it wasn’t really dry or falling out. @@soundreign2319 exactly, the natural hair shamers who actually don't understand what heat does to natural hair assume that not having uniform tight curls means your hair is damaged, but often times that's not the case. I have a combination of tight curls, loose curls and straight pieces but my hair is not brittle or falling out, it's just heat trained, it's long and silky and just fine. The only thing is that it does limit your ability to wear it in a curly style because of what happens to your texture.
