It's a rectified sine wave before the smoothing capacitor is added.

@@neonlimemarmot6478 Yes, that is what I was thinking too. But in the video he shows/builds a full wave rectifier (4 diodes).

@SineLab built a full wave rectifier, but he is shorting one of the diodes (the one between input and rectified output) resulting in half wave. That's probably because his signal generator and oscilloscope share the same ground -- shorting the diode. I'm surprised he didn't notice!
