What sets you guys apart from other small travel vloggers I've watched visiting Singapore is that you guys really do your research on the different foods and beverages here to the point of even knowing their history and variants, not to forgot all the almost spot on pronunciations. that was really impressive for me as a local. What worries me sometimes is when tourists end up going for less popular/mediocre food stalls and leaving disappointed, thankfully you guys seem to know your way around. Love the work.

Hi Zoe & Simon, I’ve really enjoyed the videos so far! It’s really refreshing to see that you’ve taken the effort to do research on the different dishes. 👍🏼 Did you guys get to try our Malay and Indian food as well? Our Malay and Indian friends make really delicious food, and along with the Chinese food, is what makes Singapore the diverse hotpot of a country it is. “Hot” pot get it? Cause Singapore is hot.. 🥵😅 I hope you feel cooler because of my cold joke 😭😂 some of my personal go to Malay food are mee rebus, mee soto, nasi lemak and the kueh kuehs. As for Indian food, I adore roti prata, Indian rojak, nasi briyani, butter chicken and naan, kambing soup! Hope you had/have an enjoyable stay here 🙌🏼

Thank you very much! We're glad you're enjoying our videos 😊 We love Indian and Malay food and we did also spend quite a bit of time in Little India (not on camera though). It was really good! We're really jealous of the great variety of food that Singapore has. Back home in Germany it's often very hard to find places that serve really good Asian cuisines. We'll also be releasing videos from our time in Malaysia soon and we tried a lot of super tasty things there too 🙂

Great video glad to see you enjoying the local food. Just a few key points for you guys to note for future reference! 1. Theres not such thing as egg vermicelli noodles. Vermicelli would indicate that the noodles is made from rice. 2. Hainanese Chicken Rice is not actually from Hainan and you cant find it there. It's named that way because the dish was created and perfected by the Hainanese who were living in Singapore. The reason u like it so much is because the chicken isnt actuallly 'boiled', but rather poached in aromatics and then cold shocked in cold water to lock in the moistness 3. Nobody ever eats rice with a chopstick, unless the rice is served in a bowl, you will never see anyone eating rice from a plate with chopsticks. Just stick with fork and spoon in such cases, the appropriate choice would be what you guys are actually used to :)

raw rice is usually sautéed in ginger paste and chicken fat first, then together with chicken broth it is added to the rice cooker. the chinese dessert mango gui ling gao, you guys tried is really obscure and is really not a common choice, not something i would recommend to foreigners. the place as well, not that well known... you could try Mei Heong Yuen Dessert 味香园 just nearby in chinatown for more choices. Jangut laksa is really just a chain place and I would recommend heading to Katong laksa instead.
@lesliechiang17102 жыл бұрын
Is the first time I seen the mango gui ling gao in my whole life and will never want to try that... lol.. Just the gui ling gao suffice and they are usually served with some sweet syrup (honey) to cover the slight bitterness, that's how Chinese like it and common in China too.

The original Noodle story stall is in Amoy food centre LOL. There are tons of good food stalls at Amoy hawker and Chinatown food centre. There's no hoisin sauce in the rojak. It has mainly prawn paste, sugar and some aromatics like ginger flower etc. Now that you have tried Tian Tian, you can try other more popular outlets for locals and make a comparison :D The chicken rice is cooked in the chicken stock from poaching the chicken and other aromatics like ginger, garlic, shallots, pandan leaves and some add a knob of butter. The herbal jelly is something that u have to get used to as you are growing up. As it is bitter, we usually put some syrup on it to balance out. If you start tasting it since young, it slowly becomes more palatable as you grow older. But I wouldn’t recommend it as a first time dessert for anyone not familiar with it because it can be quite bitter and not so “dessert-like”.
@ZoeandSimon2 жыл бұрын

@@ZoeandSimon Anyway if u want to try laksa, there are a couple that you can try. 328 Katong Laksa, 928 Yishun Laksa, Sungei Road Laksa. My personal favourite is from a shop that doesn’t even specialise in Laksa but has it like a secondary dish. If you can find a stall called “Tian Tian Chi Mian”(they have a few outlets in foodcourts), do try their Laksa. I love that it’s thick and creamy. And very tasty.

Curry puffs in Singapore do have a few variations. The one you ate is more towards the Chinese version; big with lots of fillings and often with slice of boiled egg. There is the Malay version which is also known as epok-epok; mostly either potato or sardine filling. Personally I prefer the Malay version because the crust is crispier and smaller size as a snack more ideal. There is also the Indian version which often has a flaky layered crust and sometimes look like a samosa. All three have their own camp of supporters. Amazing you guys can accept rojak. Many foreigners new in Singapore often will frown at rojak for the explosion of different flavours of this dish. There is an urban myth back in the 1950s that laksa were cooked with "earthworms" for the umami taste...

There are much better chicken rice in Singapore and I have tried Tian Tian before. I would not recommend Tian Tian to tourists though. First it is a bit dry , second no soup, third chilli is too spicy . My favourite chicken rice at stall B1-35 Golden Mile food centre which you guys visited before. At Maxwell food centre , Tong Fong Fatt chicken rice is much better than Tian Tian. Also in Singapore when you order chicken rice for 1 person you must say Ji Tui (drumstick) or Ji Wei (tail end).
