A bad idea altogether. Gov has only one shot at any new idea. Plan. Review and review. Once launched no mistakes. This saga is nothing but bad planning and management. What's the point of platitudes and elabodate explanations? Accountabilty is what counts. Who did what and why? Where the fault lies deal with it. Ministers who fail and repeat lacklustre performance should resign. That is what happens in private sector. Their high salary demands high quality of performance. Not appearance only.

The very fact that they rectified the issue AFTER an uproar showed that the PAP did not as a matter of fact saw any issue with complete strangers having access to our complete NRIC numbers. Think about that. And the only reason they are so quick to rectify this issue and offered an apology is because the GE is near. If no GE, do we honestly think the PAP would backtrack and say sorry ?

Our NRIC has become unsafe as it has already left a trail everywhere. Thus it should not be used as a sole authenticator. Though the NRIC remains as our digital identity, when paired with our name on the NRIC. Obviously, a 2nd level of authentication will be required to prove the identity of the individual, in sensitive and security matters. However, no search engines available to the public should expose anyone’s FULL NRIC number or other personal data eg address, DOB etc. Yet, in time to come, we will face an uphill task of hiding even our personal data from the AI robots. Hope some regulatory measures will be put in place to control what the AI can access and what needs to be blocked🚫
