I'm Singaporean, lived here all my life and I can testify that it is indeed really safe here. I have absolutely no qualms walking around myself in a dimly lit area in the dead of the night. Many Singaporeans do actually leave their belongings and valuables lying around in public places like cafes, coffee shops, hawker centres etc. when they go to the toilet or go off to order food; it's really safe so I am guilty of doing that myself sometimes as well. I've travelled to more than 20 countries around the world and dare I say none of them have made me feel as safe as my home country.

Go to Hong Lim Food centre which is beside Chinatown point near Chinatown MRT. Try the Outram fried kuay teow mee (Sunday closed) kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5LblHmmfq2oa7s at second floor. You cannot miss it because it has the longest queue! Opposite this stall is the Tai wah Pork noodle which is also nice. Also try the Hiong Kee dumpling at the same second floor. The hot beverages (coffee or tea) are actually customisable anywhere in Singapore, not just in Ya Kun, but we use some unique terminology to order drinks derived from the different languages that are spoken here. Kopi: Coffee Teh: Tea C: with condensed/evaporated milk O: black (without milk) Gao: thick (from Hokkien dialect), for stronger coffee Kosong: empty (in Malay), no sugar Siew Dai: less sweet (from some Chinese dialect I'm not sure which lol theres simply too many) Peng: iced (from Hokkien dialect) We also call hot tea without any additives "diao hir" (which means fishing in the Hokkien dialect, the tea bag hanging out of the cup resembles a fishing line), milo is "tak kiu" (which means "to kick a ball" in the Hokkien dialect, derived from the boy kicking a ball on the milo tin) etc.

Hi Antalya Gozleri, thanks for watching and commenting! We hope you enjoyed this video! @antalyagozleri25264 жыл бұрын
I'm Singaporean, and while Singapore is indeed an expensive country to travel to especially in terms of accommodation - there aren't really that many options for budget travellers especially since Airbnb is banned in our country (you can actually be fined very heavily by the government by leasing your apartment out for short term rental online). That said however, local food in Singapore is quite inexpensive in my opinion and readily available to the masses. You can easily get a huge spread and variety in a hawker centre without breaking your bank

Yes Malaysia and Singapore might be sharing the same dish, we are like brother and sister , but the Malaysia side is More traditional way, and Malaysia Chinese food they use more of Pork Lard to enhance flavor. For Singapore side, the Malaysia immigrant brought the food culture over thus we having the same dish is not a surprise, our food tasted bland is because we toward "healthy" living ~ our food is less heavy in taste and used less lard in cooking

I loved how you described ya kun's bread. Spot-on! That's what makes it different from the white, chunky toasts you find in your normal coffee shop. Eggs (and eggs done this way) soy sauce and white pepper is a combo I can't live without 😍 I have never dipped the sweet toast in the egg though haha..
@ChasingaPlate5 жыл бұрын

Chasing a Plate - Thomas & Sheena I have not gone back to Singapore in ages. Australia is my home now. I just make my own eggs and toasts at home 😊
@ChasingaPlate5 жыл бұрын
😀 I know mate, I meant do you cook them the Singaporean way at home in Oz 😍
@AO-iv6yr5 жыл бұрын
Oh I see. I thought you meant 'home' as in 'Singapore'. Not often, only when I crave it :) What I love about the half-boiled egg is that you'll not feel as if eating the egg white is a chore - it just slides down your throat easily like the egg yolk and you don't have to worry about chewing it like you would on a well-cooked egg. I have also made my own kaya before and you'll realise that if you make a really rich kaya (egg yolks, panda juice, sugar, coconut milk), you don't really need the butter at all - it'll just feel intrusive.
@ChasingaPlate5 жыл бұрын

I'm so glad you tried murtabak! Yea, I wouldn't eat murtabak without dipping it into curry, because it would feel like it's missing something. What you say is right - the mutton isn't really spiced up and the overall flavour is plain. I believe you have to dip it in the curry. For me the meat curry is the best accompaniment ie mutton or chicken curry. With the curry it's like a match made in heaven and then the mutton, egg and the prata start to make sense. That's probably why you liked the chicken better one because it's already flavoured, but the original one is the mutton I believe. Never had the chicken one in my life 😄 The colour of the chicken one reminds me of roti John though 😄😄
@ChasingaPlate5 жыл бұрын
Omg it totally looks like roti John!!! 😆 The dal definitely amped things up. We totally should have ordered some curry too in hindsight A O. Next time 😄

Rojak is not your typical 'healthy' salad. Not to mention it's lacking that 'green' and 'colour' that you would want to see in your classic salad. In Singapore we like to describe messiness or a disorganised state with the word rojak, meaning a mish-mash of things. Glad you found a good rojak!!!!!
@ChasingaPlate5 жыл бұрын
