Singer 4452 review and Sailrite duffel bag build

To complete a review on the singer 4452 Singer heavy duty sewing machine we chose a Sailrite duffel bag build with sunbrella marine fabric. The 4452 did exceptionally well for not being a commercial machine. The 4452 is not a commercial machine and if treated like one it wont last, it struggled on a couple spots on this build but nothing that could not be overcome. Singer's walking foot it worked but it did have a problem that had to be rectified to be used. Once the burrs were removed on the walking foot it performed flawlessly. The duffel bag project gives the machine a good workout to check for it's limitations. We did not use the Sailrite kit we used what was locally available to complete this bag. Hopefully this singer will continue to produce good quality and last for a long time, only time will tell.

what thread did you use for the bottom thread - according to Singer you can't use a heavy thread on the bobbin as there is no tension adjustment. thanks

Its size 69 thread on the bobbin and it worked fine.

Love to see guys sewing! I worked for Gulfstream Aircraft for a while and became friends with a guy that worked in the upholstery shop. When I saw some of his work, I was hooked! I have a Reliable 200ZW and a couple smaller Singer machines, the 6125 and the CG590. Did a cover for my airplane, recovered our patio furniture, some boat fender covers, and a cover for my trailer guides. I can't get enough of it! I wonder what your impression is of the 4452 by now. I was thinking about buying it, but then my wife found the CG (commercial grade, supposedly)590 at a thrift shop. It has a 1.5 amp motor (4452 has .7 amp) and works very well on heavy fabrics. Keep up the good work.

4452 has its place it's a little light for a lot of canvas work. It will do the job if your on a budget.

I’ve thought about doing a couple of the wallets that Sailrite shows on their KZbin channel made from Cordura nylon with the banding around the edges. Do you think this machine would have any problems with that? Thanks

Have you figured out how to take the back cover off under the handle to oil the internals? Videos on the 4423 show that removing the end cover with the single screw then the 2 screws under the handle then the cover just comes off back to front with 2 tabs hooking in the front. Ive tried numerous times to get off the top cover and it almost seems like its not meant to come off like the 4423 and 4432. Mine has begun to squeak and sounds like it needs some oil..
