Hello! I'm Andy - a semi-professional singer-songwriter from the UK, based in Germany. I'm a solo artist as well as vocalist of a rock band. I also teach English Language at university level, and this semester, due to covid-19 restrictions forcing an online semester on us, I did a special online version of my course "The Language of Songwriting."
Alongside a bunch of songwriting challenges, part of the final project included the option of making a reaction/review video to a song that my students particularly enjoy, discussing what elements of the song(writing) are special to them. I never give out tasks I'm not willing to do myself, so I recorded one of my own (Ghost Love Score by Nightwish, also on my channel). I put it on KZbin for fun to see whether there was interest in this kind of video, and I was really pleasantly surprised at the positive responses! So I've gone ahead and made some more!
In contrast to the many wonderful reactors out there, I'm reviewing a song I already know well. My reactions, therefore, are not as spontaneous or sensational as those of professional reactors ;-) Would you like more? This performance was 4 years ago, you should hear him now 👏 He also had to sing in Chinese for the first time in this competition and he also did concerts in Mandarin while he was in China for just over 3 years. He sings in 12 languages and is very, very intelligent, a workaholic and perfectionist. After his first performance on this show he woke up to 600 million hits on his Weibo account and had to have bodyguards, his life changed dramatically but he takes it all in his stride. You might be interested to know a few other details about Dimash, here goes. His first album in 2019 went platinum in 37 seconds and triple platinum in an hour. He is now a world class artist, still just turned 26 on the 24th of May but touring the world to sell out arenas with his solo concerts, including the Barclays Centre in New York last December (tour is on hold until its safe to continue due to covid-19) he also performs in concerts with the famous russian composer Igor Krutoy, is constantly collecting awards, attends many prestigious red carpet events, film festivals and even models for lots of high end fashion houses. He is university trained in Classical opera vocals to degree level, also holds a degree in contemporary pop music and jazz with a major in vocals, has completed a Broadway Musical Masterclass and has now graduated his Masters Degree with Honours in music composition with a top mark of 100%, he is now doing his PhD in Musicology. He has been having singing lessons from the age of 5 when his teacher noticed he had perfect pitch . He was offered a place at the Astana Opera in Kazakhstan but respecfully turned it down to persue his own more contemporary musical career. He is a multi instrumentalist, more than 8 instruments and has also sung in 12 different languages and has a range of over 6 octaves from a low bass A2 to a high soprano in full head voice, plus a whistle register with his highest note so far being a 5 second D8 with vibrato. He is widely recognized as the best vocalist in the world. He speaks fluent Kazakh and Russian, is studying English and Mandarin and has conversational skills in both but not quite fluent yet. He is kind, humble, generous, charitable and modest, a very elegant, well bought up young man. Thank you for your reaction. I have to tell you that his dad appears at the end of Opera 2. There is a version that has sup titles and follows him and his dad all the way in the back room.Dimash even says he wants to go home but his dad don’t answer. And I have not see any reactor bring it up.

If you skip to about a year later when he performs "Hello" by Lionel Richie, you'll see how much his English improved in a short time. Now he can chat in English, too. The naysayers should try learning to sing a song in Mandarin in one week like he did in "Autumn Strong."

Dimash is fluent/native in Kazakh and Russian (former Soviet Union country) and as both languages come from different language groups - Turkic and Slavic - there are nearly no similarities pronunciation-wise with English, which at this point consisted of barely a couple of words for him. Learning the song in a week (pronunciation and meaning of every word) was really impressive. Being bilingual too - different language groups too - I am quite aware how difficult (nearly impossible) some specific "sounds" are that simply don't exist in your native language. Even with a immaculate grammar and stellar pronunciation normally, as a native speaker I could hear something is not "right" with these sounds - especially if the learned language, crosses language groups. Dimash started to learn English during The Singer and he started to learn Chineese too. As Show Must Go On was his debute in English, the song Autumn Strong was his debute in Chineese. I would highly recommend Gloria Wu's Channel for this song, not only she provides translation of the lyrics and the intro with Dimash but the backstory of this song - kzbin.info/www/bejne/fIm0ZmuLYqqXmsk. I would recommend to use her channel for Daybreak (another Chineese song kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4mqd2qsnKqMgc0) and Daididau (a stunning traditional Kazakh song kzbin.info/www/bejne/qoDWaKWho5hpgpI) too - these song have a very powerful lyrics, even more when you understand the backstory that would really be a shame to miss.

You're an enjoyable guy to watch react to Dimash. I hope you never stop doing so! Dimash has indicated that it is important to him that his music be heard in the western world. That should be important to those of us who love Dimash as well. That's why I am devoted to posting reminders that Dimash fans (Dears) who have succeeded in propelling him to #1 in requests on MTV over the past four weeks in a row can use the help of other Dears in seeing to it that Dimash retains his deserved place at the top. New fans (or old ones who haven't yet participated) should calculate their time zone difference and then tune into the MTV youtube channel Friday Livestream every Friday from 5-8 pm New York time and type REQUEST DIMASH as many times as possible in the chat during the three hours that the program is airing. It is the least we can do for him in return for all he has given to us.

Hi, Andy! I'm a big Dimash fan. If you recall I previously mentioned to you I went to his only USA Concert in The Barclays Center, Bklyn, NY, Dec, 2019. Dimash's appearance in The Singer Program was filled with beautiful music and wonderful story telling songs. He had the courage to sing one song in Chinese. And there was even some personal drama during the Show which lasted several weeks. I know your schedule might be tight but I also know you will without a doubt recognize pure talent and react to it whenever you can. Dimash's version of The Show Must Go On is exciting and was one of the highlights of his invited visit to The Singer Program. There is another performer whose version of A Show Must Go On might raise your eyebrows and grab your attention. Angelina Jordan. I had recommended her before but I guess it just passed you by. If, after hearing her performance your curiosity is aroused, next take a listen to her singing "her version" of Bohemian Rhapsody on America's Got Talent/Champions, Jan, 2020. By now, if you're all in, listen to her most recent cover (Adele cover) of All I Ask. No more info coming. But, suffice to say there is plenty and after listening to these three songs you will know all about her. Andy, I'm not selling Angelina to you. She is here for you to hear her.

Thanks for an enjoyable and informative reaction! I like that you noticed the solo part with the guitar; not many people comment on it. Personally, I think that Dimash was so intensely focused on his vocals there (as you said, it was a singing contest!) that he wasn’t able to give attention to the guitarist. Normally - as a musician himself - he takes great care at his concerts to introduce and thank each musician individually, sometimes taking a good 15 minutes+ to do so ...

Yes Dimash makes all finals decisions regarding the arrangement. He composes both lyrics and music in many of his songs. Remember whilst he was new to us back then, he was already an established competion winner in his own and other countries of very prestigious competitions. Plus, inspite of his youth is highly qualified via his musical studies. He is or may have finished his decorate by now (meaning 2021not sure). There is a video of Freddie and Dimashes versions running in tandom. Well worth a listen The last contestant who gives a guttural response, is the one going next I think. I also love the way he re-phrases the lyrics in most cover songs he sings. He often changes arrangements very last minute too. Loved this review. Cheers

Hi, Andy! Thank You. I liked your reaction, Dimash is a very high-level vocalist. I want to explain to you why the covers of classical works are not similar to the original, because the contestant is given the task to make his own arrangement for the song, and not to perform exactly as in the original version. And yet, in this performance, Dimash does not use falsetto, he sings in a full voice, all his notes are rounded and sound clear. I have listened to Dimash often, but was originally reticent about watching Dimash perform works I knew from other artists. I believe this was the song that broke the ice for me and I haven’t looked back since. You were correct that Dimash’s dad was in the audience. On top of the fact that Dimash is considered the best singer on the planet by millions of fans, this 26 yr. old young man has worked very hard to develop his God-given gift to the max. and I suspect he has a very high IQ. He speaks Kazakh and Russian fluently and in the midst of all else that that he does...like compose, and work with his arrangements, direct and make videos , attend to his fan clubs and social media contacts, performs live and online concerts, deals with chosen charities, does an occasional interview, practices vocals daily and tries to swim often to maintain his huge lung capacity...he seems to be a natural linguist that rather easily memorizes songs phonetically in at least 10 languages...and is studying Mandarin and English and his English is already much improved and he already has a Master's degree in music and working on his PhD...to say nothing of his making it a point to spend time with his family and those are only the things that have been made public. God bless the very young and their energy if nothing else! :-)

I watched a behind the scene video of Dimashs' first meeting with the producers and arrangers for S.O.S., and they asked him what did he think about the first version. He disagreed with the timing of the drums coming in on the song. One of the producers said he was stubborn and once his mind was made up as to the style of his music, he struggled with change. I've learned since that he has input into every song he sings and does not perform until it is to his liking as to how he wants the song to sound to his audience. I totally agree with you concerning the guitar solo. I struggled to hear him and what I could hear, I thought was good and should have been allowed to stand out. Thank you for an enjoyable reaction. Has anyone explained to you how The Singer series work? I can tell you, I watched about 5 seasons already. Basically 8(thereabouts) professional singers or group (the Lion group) in this season were invited to compete. Who wins or loses that round are voted by the audience. After 2 rounds, the lowest combined score singer is eliminated and a new singer is invited in the third round and so forth. In the finals, all remaining singers have a solo performance and a duet performance with an invited singer of their choice and the winner is again voted from audience and the rest of China that called in on phone. Pretty cool right?

Most of Dimash’s songs are arranged by his friend Yerlan Beckchurin. Dimash definitely is part of the process, but Yerlan is a genius in his own right!

11:55 in your video, Dimash does another high falsetto part, both that part and the part where he sings over the guitar solo to me both makes me think he was trying to emulate an electric guitar sound with his voice, which is kind of fantastic in my opinion - maybe that’s why you didn’t mind him singing over the guitar solo, because it almost was like a duet with the guitar; both in the same register, style and pitch :) Oh and if you like how he made a very unique arrangement of this song, I think you’ll love his version of Hello. Mind blowing! Just think Middle East call to prayer sound coming from mosques ... it’s wild

Dimash no imita ok? Canta con mil voces y mil registros , y técnica ,estudios desde los 5 años , viendo sus profesores los registros que tenia , a los 17 fué profesor vocalista , y empezó a estudiar idiomas 12 tiene hasta hoy , instrumentos varios , como guitarra batería dombra piano violín ,entre otros , sus colores de voces , nació con ellos ,como en graves o contra altos da igual a Dimash , por la fuerza , buen manejo de aire ,micrófono esenario vestuario es propia su marca ,ahora ya es licenciado vocalista ,pero por humildad tiene dos profesores una mujer y un hombre de china , que se deja guiar , eso es lo mejor que puede haber , no sube a un escenario sin estudios a cantar como le venga en ganas COMO EL AUTOR DE ESTE TEMA ,TE PARECE BIEN QUE EN CONCIERTO CUANDO EL PÚBLICO LO APLUDIA SE BAJABA EL PANTALÓN ,LA PARTE DE ATRAZ , ???? POR FAVOR , YA MURIÓ DESCANSA EN PAZ , pero eso hace una persona y las personas ordinarias como él !!!!
