Hello! I'm Andy - a semi-professional singer-songwriter from the UK, based in Germany. I'm a solo artist as well as vocalist of a rock band. I also teach English Language at university level, and this semester, due to covid-19 restrictions forcing an online semester on us, I did a special online version of my course "The Language of Songwriting."
Alongside a bunch of songwriting challenges, part of the final project included the option of making a reaction/review video to a song that my students particularly enjoy, discussing what elements of the song(writing) are special to them. I never give out tasks I'm not willing to do myself, so I recorded one of my own (Ghost Love Score by Nightwish, also on my channel). I put it on KZbin for fun to see whether there was interest in this kind of video, and I was really pleasantly surprised at the positive responses! So I've gone ahead and made some more!
In contrast to the many wonderful reactors out there, I'm reviewing a song I already know well. My reactions, therefore, are not as spontaneous or sensational as those of professional reactors ;-) Would you like more? Then put those thumbs up and hit that "Subscribe" button, and comment with what you'd like to see!

True, she is one of the most underrated vocalists, actually, she is not just a vocalist, she is a complete performer. I just love her!

Greatest Singer\Songwriter\Performer of the last 30 years. Flawless, mesmerizing...the resonance...the phrasing, and in Italian especially, the diction.

I saw in earlier posts that you will be switching to reacting from reviews for Queen Lara after "Je T’aime". I saw your review of the French classic "Je suis malade" and her own song, "Adagio", and enjoyed them very much. "Caruso" is an Italian classic and she completely nails it. Best version of "Caruso" I have ever seen and I have, maybe, seen all of them (I am a huge Pav fan).

Always choose live with Lara...you know that but it needs to said. "Broken Vow" is going to ruin your day. "Perdere L’amore" is a powerhouse masterclass level of song and performance, in perfect Italian, that you will not be able to get out of your head (effortless perfection). "Mademoiselle Hyde" written by Lara and Igor Krutoy (pick the live version from 2016 with Igor at the piano) is, lets say, a slightly more mature version of Lara slaying a beautiful, intriguing, kind of sexy weird song with an almost Arabic feel...killer Lara. You are entering into Lara's world and you will not come back.

Dear Andy, what a pleasure to hear from you, it's like hearing one of our favorite teachers speaking our texts. Your precision for the music, your analyzes so precise and your love of the music make that we are hooked to your comments. Andy, I would like you to react to one of Lara Fabian's most powerful performances, PERDERE L'AMORE. When we know that Dimash was inspired by Lara Fabian in his youth, you will understand the ardor of Dimash. There is also MADEMOISELLE HYDE, for which Igor Krutoy composed the music and Lara Fabian composed the lyrics. Thank you from Montreal. I subscribe to your channel hoping to be the 2000th.

Another amazing performance by Lara. Very emotional as usual. I’m glad you picked up on the fact that she looks at her wrist when she sings about the blood in her vains. Next maybe Broken Vow.

Good to see you here again Lut! I think Je T'aime is next on my list, purely because I've already heard that song a few times. That would then be my last Lara review, allowing me to move on and start doing Lara first-time reactions!

Please review You're Not From Here by Lara next. Not enough reactors have chosen that song to reactors to. It's possibly her most layered and complex vocal. From the low chest notes to the astounding phrasing, to the higher belt and head voice and breathing technique. Some of her longest held notes ever in that song. Please Andy!!! Thank you! This was yet another amazing review from you.

Good reaction. Lara feels comfortable singing in Italian because it's the second language she learned as a child, being her mother an Italian woman.

Il suo papa è di Belgio e la sua mamma è di Sicilia dunque Lara Fabian parla il francese e anche l'italiano. Son papa est de Belgique et sa maman est de Sicile donc Lara Fabian parle français et aussi italien

You are brilliant at breaking everything down! I would love for you to react to some of her more recent performances... especially the ones with Igor Krutoy at the Kremlin! Huge orchestra, choir, and Lara’s amazing vocals! Je t’aime encore (French) Mademoiselle Hyde (English) Love is like a dream (Russian) I would love to hear how you breakdown these HUGE performances! 😊

great reaction and breakdown but i would appreciate not looking away (to a second monitor) that often. Especially for a performer like Lara with so much value in her expression and body language
@andyjonesofficial
@andyjonesofficial 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Giwrgos! Glad you enjoyed it! I'm working with double monitors (just posted a photo on my community page) - the performance on one side (which is what I'm mostly focussed on) and my recording software split with the lyrics (and translation) on the other side. Sometimes I need to glance at them to remember passages that I'm going to highlight. And then I have to remember the camera mounted at the top in the middle of the two monitors... Rest assured, I've given the performance my full attention lots of times, but for reviewing and recording purposes, I kind of have to work with the other monitor a bit as well :-)

"Caruso" was written to honor Enrico Caruso, the great Italian tenor who died young, shortly after his daughter was born.....this piece imagines Caruso's last words to his wife and his daughter........"Te voglio bene assai' (I love you very much)....originally written for a male tenor, all the great (and near great) male and female operatic performers have sung this piece

Magnificent performance & a wonderful in-depth, easy to understand reaction. On a tangent, please cast your mind back some 2 months ago when you acknowledged a very long post from myself regarding a wonderful young Soprano by the name of Amira Willighagen. I was hoping you would react to her, as she is simply amazing. Should you require the information again, please advise, & in the meantime, below is an exceptional performance for your consideration. Amira Willighagen performing “ Ave Maria by Gomez at the Canisius Church “ at the tender age of 11. She is accompanied by her mother playing the recorder, albeit rather poorly, & her young brother on the violin, but neither take away the exquisite beauty of her performance. Cheers, Graeme.

Hello Graeme, and my thanks for your kind comment! I have to admit I'm very behind with all of my requests because it's the teaching semester now, so I only manage 1-2 videos a week... This will increase during the summer break, probably! I've been back and forth on some of the requests I've received to look at quite a few child stars. I'm a dad of three and it's counter-intuitive to me because I feel that it's a lot of pressure and attention for someone so young who might have been pressured into performing by parents etc. Maybe I'll look at these vocalists when they enter adulthood and are more responsible for their own decisions :-)

@@andyjonesofficial Thankyou for your reply Andy. I totally understand where you’re coming from & generally I couldn’t agree more. However, in this instance it couldn’t be further from the truth. Anyway, I’m not about to argue her case, but I WILL give you an insight into this beautiful human being, for interest sake, if nothing more. When holidaying in South Africa at the age of 7, she saw school children in the dirt with no playground equipment, & said to her parents ( verbatim). “ every child has the right to play “. Immediately after some payments were received from her performances, Amira set up a charity for the purpose of donating playground equipment for these less fortunate children. She is now 17 & between the ages of 9 to 17, Amira has donated some 16 schools with playgrounds. Amira is also an Ambassador for World Peace & sponsors animals in need. Maybe you could take a look at her performing “ The Lords Prayer “ at age 16 when you get time. Hope this has given an insight into a very well grounded person that has had no pressure applied by those responsible for her wellbeing. She simply lives for singing. Cheers Graeme.

Wow, really impressive with somebody like you, with clearly(?) English mother tongue, to be pronouncing the foreign words so easily! And the rest is just as impressive. -- And I agree on the three versions of Caruso, except that I do not really like the original one that much. Subscribed.
