@@suemiller2522 I agree Sue! When they start to Autotune Kurt Cobain it’s going to sound horrible!! Especially on the song “Something in the Way”. You do such a great job guiding me down the memory lane. The fun part: I am born 68, German, and until today I enjoy the music but ignore the lyrics completely. Most likely because of two things: I played clarinet and saxophone myself (where singing is impossible) and as a German I did not pay attention to any english lyrics or the meaning behind it. And now you are opening my eyes (or ears), presenting my favorite songs again, but this time with consciousness (as my english improved in my past 30 years due to my business and travels). THANK YOU!

As I've aged I've become more open to different genres. When I was a teenager I'm ashamed to admit, I dismissed songs like this. Now I'm of the mind that a great song is a great song no matter the genre. I was 8 years old when this song hit the charts and remember it playing in my Mom's hair salon, and in the car on road trips. Then about 6 years ago, I went through a horrible, and sudden breakup. This song really helped to ease the pain of it and little by little, helped generate the sense of optimism I desperately needed. As a singer/songwriter myself, I really appreciate the brillance of the melody, lyrics and vocal performance! Thanks for having him on! It seemed to me that he was really grateful for the praise you gave him. I might be reading too much into it, but it felt to me like he felt validated after years of not getting the acclaim he deserves. Either way, what a great song! Think of how many broken hearts this song has helped heal over the years. Wow. Truly inspiring !

@ thanks for posting truly awesome content. As a musician, I absolutely love the back stories on how songs came to be.

At the time I didn't know this song, but I definitely loved it afterward. I only watched the movie once, with the girl I had already broken up with after being engaged to her for a year and a half, and "It Must Have Been Love" hit me a lot harder.

Back in the day, I was in the record store, wondering whether to buy Go West or A-Ha, and chose Go West. No regrets, and love Ah-Ha :) King of...was years later! Their remix album bangs and crashes was also great!

Faithful and Wishful Thinking sound like the same song with different lyrics. Love them both, but very similar!

I remember my mom working for EMI America when this soundtrack came out. We were already fans of Go West at the time. You didn't mention their other hits, "Call Me" and "What You Won't Do for Love." Those definitely got some airplay in the US.

We Gen-Xers got a relationship with music that no one will ever have again. I knew I could land in Berkeley the next week. There were two albums I needed. A few more if I had enough money left over. I knew of three tracks on this album that would make it worth the cost, so Bobby drove and Steve supplied half a reefer for the parking lot. We got a Blondies pizza and walked around the campus for a bit. A pretty creole girl got a hit off our joint and laughed about something Steve did. Millennials have no reason to remember randomly hitting “like” on a KZbin song. There’s no adventure related to anything they listen to. But, yeah, I got a connection to this album. It was work. It was worth it.

I'd put money on it being the same drummer on Faithful. And this is the best vocal from the 80's. He has some voice.

I picked up a cassette at Epi's (record store) in Toijala, Finland. Titled Bangs and Crashes. It was a selection of EP remixes of their pre-King... work. We Close Our Eyes. Don't Look Down. Eye to Eye. Call Me. Excellent stuff and like Peter's vocals. Thanks Prof.

Go West and Living in a Box were around more or less the same time. I loved both bands.

Living in a Box. One of the best bands whose signature song is the same title as the band name.

@@ProfessorofRock Kudos on a fantastic interview -- you really do your homework & notice all the nuances of these artists' talents, and great to see they appreciate it, too! Have you heard Peter's 'Tender Heart' (perhaps the most criminally-overlooked 'should-have-been-a-hit' ever!), 'The One That Got Away', and 'They Whisper To Me' (I'd love to hear your analysis of those lyrics!)? And don't miss 'Let Love Come' -- one of Go West's best 'newer' songs from the past decade. You reacted above to the mention of 'Living In A Box'; we seem to share several favourite artists/songs in-common (Go West, Level 42, Gary Clark (Danny Wilson), Ephraim Lewis) -- so I'm wondering if you might also be as big a Richard Darbyshire fan as I am? I'm hoping you might please get in touch with Marcus Vere (you can see several recent interviews he's done here on YT), and I thought you may be able to get Marcus to convince Richard to join him in an interview to celebrate their musical legacy? I'd love to know what they were smoking when they recorded the weirdly hilarious 'Get On The Dog Doza' & 'Dance The Mayonnaise' (Parts I & II); and learn the stories ONLY YOU could get them to reveal about songs like 'So The Story Goes', 'Love Is The Art', and 'Better To Have Lost' (a track planned for their never-released third album). Perhaps you could ask Mr. Darbyshire if he'll tell us who 'Brenton Colbert' is, and why was a pop gem like 'Take The Clouds Away' kept hidden from us? Also, I always wondered if a cover of Ben E. King's 'Stand By Me' might've given Richard the major solo hit he deserved -- perhaps it still could? Lastly, I'd love to see you interview Rick Astley (he's become quite 'The Legend' in recent years); Tracey & Ben of 'Everything But The Girl' (they reunited & released an album in '23); and Chris Rea, whose health has been declining (but he's still doing interviews recently). I know there's a story behind 'Fool If You Think It's Over', and I'd love to hear you ask about the hauntingly exquisite 'The Mention Of Your Name'. Thanks for reading, Adam!

Peter Cox is one of the best soul/pop singers from the UK, ever,. I remember when Go West were on Soul Train. You don't get on that show unless you have it.

Martin Page's "In The House Of Stone And Light" was one of my favorite '90's songs (as was Go West's "Faithful").

Go west was like a lot of late 80s and early 90s bands who started in the second half of the 80s with some small success gain a following a few years later release their big hit and then gently fade into obscurity the way I see it is you release one song that moves and touches people one hit wonder or not you made a song that has made a positive impact on people and a song that is timeless that's an awesome legacy to have
