I have used single length irons for 5 years. Had the Cobra F8s and just upgraded to the RadSpeed Graphite. LOVE them. Huge sweet spot, great sound and feel and length. Great looking clubs too. Love single length. can't see myself ever going back. They are selling too - the graphite set I have is back ordered on Cobra's site and sold out everywhere. I found a demo set at a shop and took them (this was the last set they had in stock)

Pretty good intro. I can afford higher end stuff, but I have way many more clubs lying around than a reasonable man should. I'm tempted to throw a set together from Diamond Tour Golf. The In1zone line. I thought it was Diamond Tour's own house brand, but it's not. I like the idea of having the option of having a hybrid head option for 3,4,5 iron heads, and they do.

I had Carl's Golfland in Bloomfield Hills build me a custom set, 4-9, all at 5-iron length, using "spare" game improvement iron heads adjusted to 5-iron lie. Epoxy used to even out weights. Cost: $500. JUST as good. Kept PW & SW regular sizes for ability to grip down on delicate green-side shots.
@biggregg5 Жыл бұрын
I can't imagine how those would be as good as ones manufactured originally for that purpose. The bending and weighing added and subtracted.....don't know how you can subtract significant weight from a wedge, for instance. But, maybe it's possible. Never mind on the wedge part....saw you just went to a 9. That's still 18 grams, I think.
@calvinmaestro3400 Жыл бұрын
@@biggregg5 kept wedges unaltered. Including PW. I CHOSE 5 iron length because I hit my 3 & 5 irons the straightest. I know. Opposite of nl. Others may wish to use 7 iron length - but, graphite shafts actually are .5 inches longer. So, a same length iron set in graphite shafts really are all 6 iron lengths. Like DeChambeau Only added weights as needed to 8,7,6,5,4 irons to maintain same swing weight. Moe Norman actually preferred heavier clubs. Iron heads carefully chosen - not all makes can be bent. FYI, Ping does it all the time. Best...
@biggregg5 Жыл бұрын
@calvinmaestro3400 So, 5/6 iron lengths and 9 iron head weight? Did you have them put a much stiffer shaft in them to accommodate the extra head weight? Years ago, before Dechambeau, I was thinking about making my own from regular clubs, but I finally decided against it because I figured there would be too much modification. That is interesting. I'm glad it worked. I tend to like heavier swingweights anyway. Maybe I'll rethink it. About 35 gr to add to your 4 iron... lots of lead tape?

Hey Craig, love the video as always! Is there any advantage to going forged? I game the f9's, but I wanted to get my lie angles adjusted to 2 degrees upright. I can't find anyone that can do that on a cast club though (unless I custom order new from cobra). Seems like forged will offer the ability to bend the angles as we see fit
@SimplifyYourSwing3 жыл бұрын
You hit the nail on the head. A lot of fitters are scared to bend cast clubs, and rightfully so. They tend to not be as solid so a much higher chance of permanent damage or a break. Forged allows for more manipulation in terms of lie and loft angles. In terms of play, they aren’t as forgiving (but close, a lot closer than they used to be). They also tend to allow for you to work the ball more. For some players, that may not be a good thing because it can exaggerate a slice or hook. But when hit solidly, there’s a new meaning to buttery soft. It’s like you don’t even feel the ball when struck. If you’re consistent with your striking and have a pretty consistent ball flight, it would be worth looking into.

Giga golf are the best OL's I've tried and least expensive. Played Cobra F7 and F8, played 1 Iron Pro's, played Gria's, got fitted for Wishon's new EQ line...at the end of the day, the Giga's felt the best and played the best. The Gria's were really great as well, so easy to hit and hit high, but I already hit the ball high and they cost me a fair amount of distance...yet I would still highly recommend the Gria's.

@@brian2973 Here's my experience: -Cobra F7, F8, and Radspeed...not terrible, but not my favorite. Felt clunky, radspeeds with varying lie angles did not feel right. Tried the Forged Tec irons as well, great when struck in the sweet spot, but unforgiving. I'm a good ball striker, currently down to a 6 handicap, but I struggled with consistent center strikes with them. -Gria...love the hybrid iron heads, feel really solid, but the flexible graphite shaft really made me launch them high and cost me about two clubs loss of distance compared to the cobras. I am taking one to get a stiffer shaft put in this week as an experiment because of how much I like the heads. -Giga...these were great clubs, only quit playing them because I stumbled across the Gria's. 5 iron was a little low launching, but was great for a tight fairway tee shot of 200 yards plus. -Wishon EQ1...could not get Wishon to respond to any emails or voicemails...several of each. Only received one response from the 8 fitters listed within 100 miles of me...that one response was "one length clubs don't work". I happened to be out in California for work and found a fitter to go try the Wishon's. The fitter wasn't very knowledgeable, so maybe that was part of the problem. The face of the club felt harsh to me, they went the distance the were supposed to, but I couldn't get past the harsh feel of the face. Currently gaming Cleveland XL Halo Hybrid irons, stupid easy clubs to hit. I do miss the one length set as I struggle sometimes with controlling the 4-6 iron and lost 10-15 yards on my 9, PW, GW. If the Gria's with a stiff graphite or steel shaft don't work, I'll go do an Edel fitting and drop the cash if I like them. Best of luck in your OL journey.

I play cobra f9 one length (left hand). I’m interested in getting fitted (lie angle, shaft, grip,, etc). Which companies make mid-range single length custom clubs? Also how can you gap them? Or is the gapping done in the original fitting?
@SimplifyYourSwing3 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael. So if you’re looking for a true fitting, Cobra would be the only brand that offers that in the mid-range. Wishon and Edel do it as well, but they are upper end of costs. 1iron goes off of a wrist to floor measurement. Pinhawk can be contacted to build to specs, so if you had a one length fitting done for Cobra, you could take those and order pinhawk. Same would go for the In1Zone and Giga Golf. Gapping should be handled from the original fitting. Get the lie angle, shaft length and grip then build those brands custom. One thing to keep in mind with shafts is to get a single length or one length shaft so the kick points match with the head. A regular KBS shaft won’t work with single lengths correctly.

I am loving your channel, thanks. I just got a set of one lengths... I have a question for you, but I haven't seen it anywhere on your material yet. How do you recommend cutting down a driver, or a 3 wood...I have SW through 4i, my 4i goes about 195 to 250, depending on off the tee, downhill, downwind of course, but typically around 200 off the deck. How would you recommend getting a longer club than a 4i, but still keeping it 7i length? I will keep checking out your channel for something that mentions that, but just figured I would ask here. Thanks.
@SimplifyYourSwing3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the support and awesome to have you on board. In terms of a diver, 3w etc. being cut down to 7i length, there’s a lot of potential issues and a ton of work that needs to be done to get yourself a driver/3w at 7i length that will actually perform. I actually have my Driver and 3w shorter by an inch compared to what’s standard. That allows me a little better control without much distance loss. In terms of companies that offer some shorter Drivers and woods, take a peek at Pinhawk or 1iron. They look like they have some good options. If you’re wanting to cut your current, I highly recommend a fitter as they can make sure the swing weight stays the same.

I’ve been interested in single length as well, but have not had a chance to try them. Wishon strongly recommends having them custom fitted, but the only fitter in the area is not seeing anyone due to the pandemic. (He’s only repairing clubs now.). There are two online options I’ve found - one where you send a video to the guy and he makes recommendations, and one place where you can simply order them. In both cases, I would be worried about getting badly fitted shafts. I might be overthinking it - I’ve only been playing for about 4 months. I’m interested in the Cobras, but I think it odd that they vary the lie angles. I don’t know whether that would have a big impact, but it seems to me that a change in lie angle could easily lead to a change in set-up, which kind of defeats the purpose. I might be wrong on this. The Pinhawks seem to get good reviews, and are really cheap for what they are, but they seem perpetually backordered.
@SimplifyYourSwing3 жыл бұрын
That’s unfortunate about the fitter... shafts can make a big difference. PinHawks are very popular. Cobra does that because they believe people swing the clubs differently as opposed to the same. So it could cause some slight setup issues, but not major. Maybe speak with Wishon and see if they have a recommendation where you could go to any fitter and send them specs. Or if you have a simulator location near you that uses trackman or flight scope or a higher end system maybe you could video chat them from there for your fitting? Hopefully it can get worked out for you.

@@scottycameron9805 well that changes the game, lol. So here’s the absolute key when looking for the ideal flights in single length: it’s all in the shaft.
