TBH, any first time date with a girl who assumes the guy is paying for dinner or everything most likely got the idea from her entitled gal pals. I went on a few first time dates in my youth before meeting my husband and each time my "friends" told me, "Make sure he pays for everything!" especially if I "put out". I was like, "The hell???" I never "put out" on any of those 1st dates and a few ended up turning into long term relationships but there were a few that I never called back and in one case had to block him on my phone AND online. As a woman, my pet peeve on first time dates were a man's hygiene and/or assuming I would sleep with him at the end of the date... whether or not he paid for dinner.

@@paooul_dixon Coffee dates make far more sense. Easier to cut and run if it's not going well and neither party has expectations of anyone spending a small fortune. When I started dating a few years ago I was skint as my ex-boyfriend had caused me considerable financial grief. Fortunately the things I enjoy (e.g. hiking, cycling, beach combing) don't cost much and I'm a fairly good cook, so I felt ok about throwing my hat in the ring and living again. When I met my fourth coffee date he insisted we have dinner at the venue instead. I only had £15 on me, warned him I wasn't expecting this \'o'/ and was relieved when the bill only came to £30. After putting down my £10 note, while fishing out the rest he smiled and covered it. You are right, I was appreciative of this gesture. I then suggested our second date, a hike in my local hills. It gets chilly up there and that worked out as I'd hoped with a wee snuggle up while we picnicked ;-) He told me after we got engaged a year later he hadn't intended for me to pay for anything on our first date, but thought it was cute watching me try. Monkey! 2 years on, back on my feet financially, I took him back to the same place and pre-paid dinner, a room and breakfast as his birthday surprise (his 'main' gift was a pair of rather nice slippers lol). Sometimes us chicks like to spoil you guys too and he was well chuffed :-)

2 stand out in memory. 1. Religious type, tried to get me to say that I loved her on our blind date so that she could justify putting her plan into action. That plan? She wanted to have 7 kids. Seven! Wanted to have them one after another. She went to my bedroom. I didn't follow. 2. Was a friend of my brothers girlfriend. We all hung out together one night at her place, and I end up asking her out. She lived in a trailer with a friend. Learned during the date that she had 3 kids. Just my opinion, as a woman, I don't like not paying on dates. In the past, the guys I were with always insisted paying, even when I told them I can pay. I'd usually sort of protest by at least paying the tip. It is shocking to me girls just demand this and then expect more. Money isn't cheap.

I didn´t know it was a date, but this one girl I knew from work told me about this pizza place, so we went there and had something to eat. I just did what I assume to be basic human decency (i.e. introvert smalltalk, which is basically what extroverts would call a deep conversation), and then she somehow expected me to pay for her as well. I mean, my bill came up as around 30€, but hers was more than five times that high, so I said no, paid for my stuff and left. The next day at work, she told me she had to leave her antique pocket watch as insurance so the pizza place would let her leave and come back with money, and yelled at me because I ruined our first date. I was literally the last person at my work place to know it was a date. When she somehow convinced my boss to get me in trouble for it (apparently her pocket watch is so important to her that she can´t work properly without it, which I can totally understand, having the same issue if I´m without my belt, wrist watch or pocket knife), I told my boss that I never go on dates with colleagues. I won´t even consider them friends because, you know, they´re my colleagues, not my friends. She goes on and on about how it was totally a date, since we talked about our hobbies and interests, and had a real connection and all that, and I just told her that, as an introvert, that is my version of smalltalk. She asked why I agreed to something that was obviously a date if my personal guidelines say I can´t go on dates with colleagues, and I told her that she told me about the pizza place, asked when I´d be free, and then just sat down opposite from me. I also told her that I have severe autism and don´t understand social constructs that well, and named three people from the top of my head that worked with us, all of whom thought they were in a relationship with them because I failed to understand the signals I was sending to them. I had some money on me, as I usually do, and paid about 20% of what she had to pay because of me, and the boss said that this should resolve the issue. She quit a week later.

Had you paid and been the who thought "you guys had a connection" she would have been the one to promptly remind you that it wasn't a date. The "buy dinner for the girl" date thing is so exploitable it should be left as a relic of the past. She's a big girl, she can pay for her own meal. Also, I think that doing everything for a woman would be disrespectful to her. Relationships are partnerships and she has just as much to offer, and should offer. Dates are just a way of getting to know each other, not some magical step to confirm a relationship. You should be getting to know each other in school, the work place, and doing fun together, or just hanging out. While waiting for our table, a former employee I had supervised saw me on her way out and we did the whole, "Hi! How are you? Good seeing you again!" I had a girl that I didn’t even have a first date with. So I met this girl online when I was in college that went to a different college about an hours drive away from mine. We got to chatting a bit for maybe a day or two and she was very insistent on Skyping with me. Which I’m totally fine with as it’s a good way to weed out people before you meet irl. Well we skype and not to long into our conversation she starts talking about us dating and going steady and such and our future together. I stayed polite and such throughout but I found an excuse to end the Skype call as quickly as possible as I could tell that she was clearly crazy.

I would also tell her that she would need to check herself in, and clean up with the drugs. Then I would be willing to maybe date her if I was still clear. Then block her number.

It wasnt even a date, i was at a bar listening to a friend DJ minding my own business. Some random chubby chick comes up to me asks to play pool, im like... ok. Rack the balls and shes asking a few questions, where im from and such, then she asks "so i bet you make $45k a year." I certainly didn't make that much at the time and was like this red flag couldnt be any bigger lol. Faked that something happened and i had to go.

Came to pick her up on my motorbike. She got on the back and was like "Hey, where's the seat belt?". I thought she was joking but she was dead serious. I told her there was none and she was like "what?! that's so dangerous!". The rest of the evening went on and let me tell you, the first impression wasn't all that off as her IQ was not in the triple digits, for sure.

That's exactly the reason why. Women have been exploiting men for their time and money with no intention for a real relationship. Chivalry was something men held to because they wanted to show women how much they care. If women take advantage of that and use men just for their resources don't be surprised if men stop giving. It's just a matter of human respect.

OMG, that thumbnail. 😵😵😵 Edit: one time playing wingman for one of my boys, i agreed to blind date, his dates friend. So we drove out to new roc city, (new Rochelle, NY) and ate at the buffalo wild wings. She was, "decent" looking, but the turn off was when, she scraped pieces of chicken from under her fingernails with her teeth. She had at least inch long nails at that. Nope, I was done. 🤢🤢🤢
