Well, the way I see it is like this.....the man has allowed himself into lowest rank position with everyone in her family, the exes involvement even behind her domestic pets. If there was a handful of people in her direct family unit, and you come into it, you take the lowest position, not the newest. Now you will get all the fake niceties at the beginning, but as you witness her operating her family unit, you won't be involved, if the ex is present you also go behind him with all negotiations. You won't even be involved with them. So her old and new family unit operating still works like it did before, just with you siding and assisting her through it, usually on your dime and the moment you don't perform she will just put you. It's the same position as an abandoned dog. No one in the situation gives an eff about you, you ain't the father, you ain't nothing..

When I paid for Yahoo Personals back in the early 2000s, it seemed others behaved as I did, so I'll tell you what I did. Which was chat with only one person at a time?? That's ridiculous. Here's the reality. I'd get on the computer and jump around from "room" to "room," starting multiple conversations. People would take minutes to respond. So I just responded to all I could, waited for their responses. Then respond again. Eventually, one person was responding back in real time, and quickly enough, so that naturally meant others got iggied (for that session, maybe restarted later, maybe not). 90+% of those I chatted with I never called on the phone, never met in person. The usual time frame was about a month of chatting, then a phone call/date. Waiting a month for a single date is long enough; only chatting with one person at a time would increase my wait time by a factor of ten.

My uncle died 20 years ago when he was 28 and left behind his wife (27) and 3 kids 5m, 10f, 10f (yes twins). I remember as a kid growing up my aunt always being pressured by my grandma and my other aunts (my dad was 1 of 16 (8 boys and 8 girls)) about how she *needed* to find another husband, because "your kids need a father", or "you need someone to help raise the kids and support you." My aunt refused and said she needed to concentrate on raising her kids and that her kids had a father. She never dated. Once her son (my youngest cousin) went off to college, and the twins were out of the house and living on their own, she started dating. People thought she was nuts and too old, why didn't she date when she was younger, etc. Its because she felt that it was her responsibility to raise her kids, not someone else's and she wanted her kids to grow up knowing who their dad (my uncle was), instead of replacing him with some guy. She's remarried now and she has a great relationship with her kids.

When I need to discuss my wife’s involvement in my kids’ life, I refer to her as my kid’s mom, not my wife. Because she’s decided that’s all she is, and wife is a legal status only. “He went with his mom to Washington last spring.” Not “My wife took him…” I call her that *because* I’m over her, otherwise I’d just say “my wife” which is just as accurate. I’d think that once the inevitable divorce is final, if I were to call her “my ex” instead of “their mom,” it shows I still associate her as mine and not just this unseverable connection to my world that she turned out to be.
