@justaperson91555 жыл бұрын
Well there's been 7 seasons of talking building up to the battles in Season 8. If this last season just had talking, how fucking upset do you think people would be? It would be a boring conclusion. They have injected more money into this season than any other TV show ever has, and that budget has to be used for the huge set pieces and epic battle sequences. I think the show tied the whole series together nicely with all the political discourse and intrigue leading up to the final awesome confrontations. That was always the plan for Game of Thrones, as along with the show's success, they've been able to go bigger and better each year.

james84 - This is what made me love GOT. Now CGI and action has taken the starring role while characters have taken a back seat.
@mercyrn355 жыл бұрын
Justaperson building up to epic battles means that characters become dumb and mute? The story isn’t complete once the battles begin. This isn’t a 2hour movie, it’s a series that can afford to incorporate both. Most people who don’t watch GOT don’t watch because they didn’t want to invest several episodes worth of getting to know the characters and the lands. The ones who invested that time want more. it’s still good ,but it’s not all it could be.

There is nothing wrong with CGI and massive battles, especially if they are well done. I prefer it that way in the latter of the show. What's important is those moments in between battles. The dialogue wasn't the same.

Conversations between Varys and Baelish are my favorite scenes in the show. It is probably one of the few instances where the conversation is honest. They know the game and they've been major players of it for years. During these private dialogues, they have too much respect for one another as opponents to even attempt to use false modesty or flatterings that they show others.
@PurpleCloud61910 жыл бұрын
Mine as well. Being that Varys is my faviorite GOT character. He and Baelish do share a certain scent of vile characteristics. Yet they both have remained untouched in high council. I think Varys though shall rain supreme in the sense of cunning. He is able to lie and tell the truth in the same sentence. He can make a lie stretch further than some truths.

Jotus249 Varys isn't stupid enough to take Littlefinger lightly, the opposite isn't quite true as Varys constantly outwits Littlefinger. Littlefinger is good, don't me wrong - but compared to Varys, he isn't an equal.
@JimmieRussel10 жыл бұрын
I don't know.. This scene is quite the opposite of that. Littlefinger showed him he knew of his true allegiance, and that he knew of his friend ship with the Pentoshi. The same one that was helping Dany and his brother and gave her the dragon eggs. It seems to me like Littlefinger has him by the balls with that piece of information, since no one has has any idea what Varys wants up until that point. Not to mention the power plays he's pulling in the past couple of episodes, with the king, new alliances, becoming the lord of the vale and the lord of Harrenhall, as well as secretly having the key to the North by his side. Littlefinger is winning in my opinion.
@theonlylampshade10 жыл бұрын
***** Oh ho. The power plays that Varys has in store for us are well beyond anything that Littlefinger has pulled, and not for narrow self interest. Here Littlefinger thought that he'd pulled out Vary's true allegiance, to the Pentoshi - Magister Illrio who'd been helping the Targeryan heirs. Before Littlefinger could even go beyond making an implied threat with this piece of information, it's shown that Vary's has a well established reason for the meeting - namely informing the King that Dany was with child. Vary's played Littlefinger here. He allowed Littlefinger think that he had something over him... when he didn't.

Hey hey here i am to answer 5 years later. Many people call the writers dumb and dumber now, but the series didn't decline because they didn't know how to adapt the books, but because they didn't care to anymore. D&D used to be great at adapting the show and to fill the blanks with amazingly written scènes that sounded like they came from the books themselves, but then all of a sudden they lost interest in the source material. Well not all of a sudden. The red wedding came and went, and there wasn't a whole lot after that they were excited to put on the screen. They got offers for a star wars project and liked that a whole lot more. So that's it right? Give got away to other competent writers after season 4 and walk away? Well, no. I said D&D weren't dumb, but they are greedy and arrogant. They wanted FULL credit for writing got, which means to wrap things up as fast as possible. Its not a coincidence that they didn't adapt Aegon, Stannis or the real Euron, that would take time that they didn't have and so they pretend that it didn't exist. Got didn't die because they didn't know how to save it, but because they didn't care to

Look at how Baelish turns the tables! He gathers information and he knows when to use it. I think this is the perfect scene to show someone who wants to know what GoT is about. It's a perfect example of the game.
@antonioRamsay2210 жыл бұрын
I don't think you understand, its Varys who turns the tables.. Baelish says that he saw Varys talking to someone (Baelish thinks he's giving information to the forigner and that only he has noticed) but at the end when Varys says "Disturbing news from far away, hadn't you heard?" It shows that he was infact getting information from this person and will be sharing it in the small council meeting with the king, so it is in fact Varys who remains on top of Baelish in this scene.

Andrew R That's true, I did miss that when writing the comment.
@ColoradoJinx10 жыл бұрын
Andrew R Not quite, though. The meeting was the one Arya spied on, and raises some real questions about Varys' loyalty. To call it small council business would be a stretch, however he spun it in this scene.

I did not even realise that LF saw him. In the books Arya saw Varys although she did not know it was him down in the tunnels disguised; he and the man from across the seas (Illyrio) were talking about killing Eddard because Varys was not ready for his big reveal as yet which was for Aegon to take the throne as the rightful king (not being done in the show though), so they had agreed that they have to get rid of Eddard since he appeared to be causing trouble/messing up Varys et al plans. Arya went and told Eddard and that's when he decided he had to leave KL but one Sansa ran and told the Cersei and therein led to his death

the baelish and varys scenes are one of my favorites scenes on the show. baelish is essentially the main villain on this show, he's caused all the events that have taken place on the show, from Jon arryn to the blackwater. and varys is the hero of the show. he's backed up Ned and tyrion. and he takes on littlefinger. varys vs baelish is what the show is actually about, a strategic war, a game of chess. and the people are the prices. question is... who will win ?
@rastiga91968 жыл бұрын
+Sean Gillies I think both are kinda evil in the books but LF is the more honest one with his intentions while Vary's is a lot more murky. I think that Vary's really does think he's doing what's best for the realm but it's not what we all think is right, like supporting the Mummer Dragon instead of Danny. I could be wrong but he really hates magic and it's hinted that Dragon's are the source of magic.
@Gaamel358 жыл бұрын
"LF is the more honest one" wow, I dunno what stuff you're smoking man. LF is a pathological liar and schemer. Although he didn't start the Stark-Lannister feud, he kept blowing on the embers by blaming Tyrion for the attempted murder on Bran, convincing Lysa to kill Jon Arryn and tell Cat the Lannisters were responsible, then he gave information about the royal bastards to make sure Ned would discover the truth, betrayed him and Cat, used Sansa and Tyrion to carry out a kingslaying... Varys did none of that (to our knowledge), he plotted with the exiled Targs that's true, had some people killed at the end of book V (soon in the show I think), but he's nowhere near the level of LF in terms of evil.

What you said is true also and that is part of the brilliance of George's books. Neither I nor you is gonna tell the outcome until the books are done. We can guess but we don't know....

I am sad that they "removed" most of these excellent characters from King's Landing and even the main plot for now. Their conversations were the highlights of the show. Petyr moved to the Vale, Varys sailed to Essos, Oberyn died, Tywin died and Tyrion had to escape. Only Olenna Tyrell and Cersei stayed there, and Margery but she was never really a "player" of this level.

Bob Miter I saw the 5th season. Littlefinger and Olenna appeared for 1 scene each and they achieved nothing. At least nothing as of this season. Varys and Tyrion were mostly separated. This season, I definitely missed the Game from Game of Thrones.

These two together would be an unstoppable force but Chaos and Order are not meant to cooperate. Varys would never trust someone as equally influential and cunning as him and it's vice versa for Littlefinger! Chaos and Order are enemies that conflict when 1 force gets out of hand the other force quickly checks it to get it back in line. That is relationship Varys and Littlefinger have both 2 different forces trying to achieve their own agenda by getting ahead of the other but can't seem to stay ahead because when 1 makes a decisive move the other retaliates to even the playing field again. Oh I just love their rivalry!

I disagree, I think chaos and order serve one another. it's the reason why varys ends up doing what he did in the end of a ADWD where he kill those two people. He kind of became like littlefinger there in that he wanted to create chaos, so taht he can later restore peace. in fact his scehemes kind of involve putting people at odds against each other. he is more like littlefinger tahn eh realizes, but for different goals.
