We have been in a SIP home, 10 years now, 1500 square foot. Ours has a SIP basement as well. The key to heating these homes is in the basement, I finished our basement with tongue and grove knotty pine in order to add ¾ inch more insulation and hold more heat in. I also installed padded carpet which actually added a lot more insulation, open concrete absorbs and dissipates a lot of heat energy, you don’t want open concrete. We have propane heat/furnace and a basic wood burner in the basement, our propane bill is $300 PER YEAR, and I only use about a cord and a half of firewood per season. By keeping the basement heated the heat radiates up ward and the furnace never comes on. If we burn for more than 5 hours the heat will cook us out, the house will stay heated for 12, 24 or 48 hours, depending on the outside temperature. SIP homes are very easy to heat and stayed heated for a very long time. I’ve heated the basement up to 85 degrees with out melting any snow away from the house, the basement is insulated like a sauna and the heat can only go up. I pretty much store/trap the heat in the basement. For an experiment I hooked up a 220 volt, 12K electric heater in the basement and was able to heat the entire house with it. I only use it in the spring and fall when it is not cold enough to fire up the wood burner. When we use it, it costs the same as central air. We have a regular furnace, according to code but very rarely use it. As for summer we only need a window AC unit, living and bedroom, to cool the entire house. I’m very surprised these homes never took off, people don’t know what they are missing and how much money they could be saving. And they go up fast which cuts cost on labor!!!

It's a single story ranch, very strong, I read somewhere that sip homes are the only ones still standing after earthquakes, I think it was in Japan after an earthquake. 14 years and no problems or complaints. Our attic is half blown insulation and half foam which is actually better then a SIP panel roof, with triple pain windows. Very quite inside. You'll love it. Easy to cool in the summer with a window unit, you don't need central air. Styrofoam is water proof no leaks. @eco-city
@eco-city 6 жыл бұрын
Normally, it takes about 15 working days to assemble the house kit and up to 20 days to make the decoration. When using the nailer assembly takes 5 days less. Our house kits are shipped on construction site including all the joints, foam, membranes and so on. This saves time on local shopping. The detailed assembly plan show panels in two perspectives and make it almost impossible to make mistakes while mounting. You can e-mail us your home plan with the façade view and the location of the construction site. Our engineers will prepare the free blueprints and give the price quotation including shipping and customs.

I had tried to get in with a "company builder" that needed men to learn this back in the early 2000's...couldn't find a job doing it. It's so much better than "stick-building"...that stick building should actually be made illegal now. No exaggeration. There are plenty of SIP lawsuits if you care to look and there will be more coming. These things rot in place and you end up loosing structure and then there's VOC and deteriorating foam. As for 2x4 construction, there are building that are over 100 years old using stick built. Modern standards call for 2x6 on 24 inches on center.

fernarias, how do they rot in place ? How does the foam deteriorate, when foam is left outside in the rain, sun,hot,cold, it still takes forever and this stuff is bonded to each piece of OSB ? If the water is kept out like on any other home, it will last forever. As for VOC'S, there's way more coming from carpet, cabinets, faux trim boards, etc.

The house kit is made of wood and therefore it can burn. However, rafters are usually made of timber even in the brick house. Also, we need to remember that all the interior decoration burns first in any house and the deadly affect of this is much higher. As we see any house can burn. We do our best to prevent the house kit from this problem. We take wooden supports and rafters away from the chimney and do not recommend put the electric wires inside the panels. Speaking about typhoons and earth quakes this house is quite elastic and can stand that much better then the rigid types of constructions.

@eco-city7809
@eco-city7809 3 жыл бұрын

Aren't those trusses thermal bridges later on? Also corners?
@eco-city7809
@eco-city7809 3 жыл бұрын
We use sawn wood of kiln drying, that’s why there are no any thermal bridges in our houses. But of course the resistance of framework’s wooden elements to heat transmission is lower than of the SIP-panel itself. Nevertheless it could be hardly called a thermal bridge. The proportion of framework’s cross section to the surface of wall is only 5%. In such a way the heat loss of framework is only 10% of the full amount of house’s heat loss. We can’t build a house without framework. But if needed the cross heating of frontage can be done.

If the second floor ceiling is insulated as shown in the video, then there's no need to do the roof with sips as it would be a serious waste of money unless you plan on using the attic as a living area ? Also, at some point, there HAS to be a cold space above your warm space. lol.

It is difficult to understand the construction from this video. I didn't see sip's on the ceiling of the 2nd floor until I watched it again. However, the angled roof cuts into the 2nd story and there wasn't any sip's there, just a roof. Using sip's between the 1st and 2nd floor seems overkill and not using them on the roof where the roof meets the exterior wall is odd. Again, the video doesn't show enough detail. Hence, the questions.
@augustreil

I totally understand what you are saying...it is hard to understand the insulated envelope as they call it. Because the entire second floor used insulated sips, the angled roof can go over that entire floor but they still must use sips on the knee walls on the second floor, slopes and flat ceiling which completes the insulated envelope. I hope this helps sir ?

Этот дом действительно собирается легко и быстро. Но требует все-таки определенных знаний. Обычно с монтажом дома может справиться бригада из 2-3 человек. При этом легкость сборки никак не влияет на качество постройки.

how do you run electric? heating/plumbing? do the panels have to be preplanned with PVC conduit? how effectinve would SIP be for a garage with 2 10x8 insulated panel doors?
@eco-city
@eco-city 6 жыл бұрын
In Russia it is prohibited to install electric items inside the wooden constructions. Therefore, we have developed the system when all the electric wires run in the layer of soundproof and gypsum. In US the codes are lighter then in Russia and they allow electricity inside the SIP. The SIP walls would be just as affective with or without the garage doors. The question is how affective would be the door itself. It can kill all the energy saving or let it show itself.

Due to the restriction to run electricity inside the wooden construction in Russia, we suggest our clients to put all the electric wires in the layer of gypsum-carton that is commonly used for the interior decoration.

Probably shred, given it's made of plywood and foam. I could see construction style like this being great for a temporary town for a movie set, or for making a retirement home for somebody since it's probably much cheaper and would probably survive the tenant anyway, but if you're looking to make a home last, this ain't it.

The engineering in SIP-houses is laid over the SIP-panel, in undercoat or open. А piping is laid open or in easy removable tunnels (for its revision), or in floor cement screed (if it exists). The plumbing and wiring systems inside the SIP-panels are forbidden. Such a king of laying damages a SIP-panel and leads to condensate formation.

So the only thing holding in heat at the joints is a little bit of spray foam and the pice of wood. I would love to see thermal image of that house just to see how much loss of heat at the joints

Yes the spry foam is just a glue and yes there is less then regular stick building I would agree. I also can see how this will force heat loss more then regular stick building. I did not see in this video or others where a vapour bearior is even put on inside the house. Like I said would like to see a threamal camera to see heat loss That's the true test of is these sip's are actually better or not. I looked but could not find any videos of it being done. I don't just go by a manufacture saying their product is better or the best. I want proof of it. Being someone that's building a house now and have cabins to build this maybe the way to go but proof is needed before spending extra

Sorry to point this out, but you guys have made several mistakes with SIPs, and wasted several 100 m of good timber! (even if it is cheap in Russia) SIPs will span 4-5m, with internal graded timber splines. What your were using was BZP (mild steel) screws, not galvanised, and these will start rusting in a few months when damp. also, I know steel in cheap in Russia, but most builders use concrete foundations (have to be deeper because of your extreme frost!) I guess your given somewhere for the wild dogs and rats to live?

Unlike in US we use much more timber in our construction. This is due to the much higher strength requirements applied to the constructions in Russia. We use our own patented technology to allow heavy snow loads and fireplaces that weight up to one ton per sq.m. None of the normal SIP houses can do that. Concerning the screws, we use only the galvanized ones and it is mentioned in the film.

In the film, there is no detail given about a basement or foundation since the focus is on how to construct the house with sips. We in the US are in the same climate zone as Moscow...as least I am where I live on Lake Superior... How deep do your foundations go. Ours are required by law to go down a meter and a half (four feet). However, in reality we need to go down to two and a half meters (7 feet) to protect against the damage of freezing.
