to me, any rapper that needs an assist to complete the battle has automatically lost. there are two exceptions in ERB history, Darth Vader in part 3, because Boba Fett was called in because Vader already had the battle won. the other exception is Doctor Who, because the doctor has multiple lives being a time lord, so his "assist" was just another version of himself. to me, Newton won this one.

That equation was just a typical example problem for homework in calc 1 or calc 2. Newton wasn’t just big boying him, so many of those words had deeper meanings. I’ll put in parentheses all the words that have significance to Newton’s mathematical contributions (at half of Bill Nye’s age). “(I; he gave us a way to notate the imaginary number i, which is the square root of -1) (accelerated; the Newton is how much force is required to accelerate a mass of 1kg to 1 meter per second per second)(mind of mankind; our collective knowledge in science) to a (higher plane of understanding; two puns here, he gave us knowledge of planes in multiple dimensions, eventually leading to string theory; also his work with the standard 3D set of planes, and the complex plane) and (I; credit again where credit is due, every time Newton says I, it’s a bar) can (calculate; he then goes on to advancements in calculation, which lead to calculus classes to begin with, of which I’ve taken two college classes so far, and I kinda want to read a textbook written by Newton. Anyone know what class uses his book, if any?) the (weight; part of his advancements towards the Newton, which has kinda recently helped scientists put a set number to the kilogram, so we don’t have to rely on a physical object for accuracy in equations involving mass) and the (size and the shape of the shadow; thanks to him, we can literally do both those by measuring one side, for the size of a shadow, which is another typical example problem; and we can put numbers on a 3D graph to make shapes, handy to have available when programming anything visual, like video games, or even programming a program used to create 3D graphics, or design) of the (mind you’re standing in; ok this part is the big-boying). Also calling him a “shadow of a mind.” Layers. Edited here to say: I was re-reading this, and I noticed I needed a paragraph break, because that one line took *that much* explanation. Damn, ERB, props to you guys for your word choices. Ok, end of edit. The next part is also bragging about integrals, and derivatives, and secants, natural logs, and solving for x (or, as he put it, “what?!”). Which by the way, that equation can be solved for you on some graphing calculators, which other geniuses (at Texas Instruments) made based off of his contributions to the fields of math, programming (even though programming and computers weren’t made until later on, but they then advanced those fields because of his gifts of being able to put almost anything into numbers), and graphing in multiple planes. They limit what calculators can be used in math classes at those levels because when Newton figured out how to solve an equation like that, he didn’t have those to rely on, and learning the steps involved in solving it *is* those classes.

I think a notable point is also the metrics by which we judge them, they are defined by the participants and Newton doesn’t exactly refute Bill Nye assertions there. Like he didn’t live a great life, or even an ascetic and focused one like Tesla, he was an alchemist that was difficult to work with and experimented a ton on himself and spent time getting lost in hermetic nonsense without letting rigor define any of his pursuits of truth like say Kepler or Copernicus- he ruined his own life and the potential for future contributions he could have made by treating people badly, betraying friends and seeking the beyond as a result of his mental instability. Not that he isn’t a world shattering genius, just the idea that people are automatically dismissed in Rap battle, grates on my debater nerves. By many defined victory conditions he failed at enjoying or changing things that were in his power to effect because he sought the most self destructive panaceas to his neuroses. Also thanks for the TI shoutout, I’m a GIS person and their founders started my school and invented my science.
@Bobal27
@Bobal27 3 жыл бұрын
@@Souledex Awesome, and the shoutout is well deserved. Very good points, all, but I kinda like the dismissive aspect of battles, the onus of refutation is on the person having their skills belittled. Also, mental instability and genius go together by nature, sadly, as I know all too well. GIS is one heck of a branch I was definitely including in TI’s advancements. I’m betting that somewhere down the line, Sir Issac’s scribblings will provide more major breakthroughs in your field, especially given the inherent 4 dimensional aspect of space-time. Don’t forget when pondering the next step, time is somewhat more of a determining factor in a series of events and interactions than simply geographical location, which could end up renaming your science ;p
@Bobal27
@Bobal27 3 жыл бұрын
@@Souledex Oh, and don’t think I’m dismissing Bill Nye’s contributions to many fields, especially in the aspect of making people want to join in our accumulation of collective knowledge. I just felt that they packed sooooo much into Sir Isaac’s verse that needed a more detailed breakdown by a pure mathematics (and applied sciences, I guess) “expert.”

The original title of the first book was *Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone*. It was changed to Sorcerer’s Stone for Americans because the publisher didn’t think that American kids would know what the Philosopher’s Stone was. So they replaced one mythical object with another. And the movies basically used the American version. Newton was way into alchemy and wanted to find the Stone so he could turn lead into gold

When Newton used a prism to split sunlight, he saw a rainbow and made out 6 distinct colors. But since he really liked the number 7, he made himself see another color which he called indigo. And that’s why we say that rainbows have 7 colors. Fun fact: Russians have a completely different seventh color. It’s “light blue”, which is its own word (which incidentally also means “gay”)

The equation is from a limmerick. However the area under a secant WAS a big question in Newton's time. The other clever thing is that you would expect the answer to just be 1 or -1, but NDGT answered i, and I understand that imaginary numbers existed in Newton's time but wasn't taken seriously. Might've been a clever way to show him that modern mathematics go beyond what he reached.
