Recently we had Essence Atkins and Keith Robinson on the show to talk about their new movie on BET "open,” where they are in an open marriage. Essence told us while doing her research for the film, she met a couple who was married for 20 years who was in an open relationship and it sounds like it was successful for them.
The ladies share their thoughts on open relationships in today’s Full Circle.

I think an open relationship is a lazy way of not dealing with the issues in your current relationship. The next person that gets in a relationship with you will eventually get the broken unaddressed issues of your soul. Relationships have inherent risk and no matter how great two people are there is always "work" because we are all in process and we are all evolving.

Exactly, I'm not married but I always thought you get married because you have found that ONE person you want to spend the rest of your life committed to and you have said no to all the rest.

An open marriage is not God's way. It is just a way for people who cannot control their urges to sleep with whomever they want. When people lack control over their desires it can lead to dangerous outcomes. The devil uses things like this to look cute until you are actually in it.

For the past couple of years, my whole life did not make sense. I learned more than I want to know about narcissism and borderline personality disorder. My husband was diagnosed with it, but I did not know the full impact of what that meant until...The love of my life, the only man I have ever loved and been married to for 38 years, decided he wanted to date while married. He went online and started dating up a storm without my consent or knowledge. That old Knucklehead does not even "have it like that" in the love department if you know what I mean. Well, to make a long story short and sweet, he moved in with one of the side-chicks in Georgia and I am here in California living my life like it is Golden. Every day, I wake up and ask myself, "Martha, what wonderful thing will you do for yourself today?" God has let me know I don't have to understand all the foolishness and "carrying on" that happens in this earthly realm. Just keep moving, so I am moving my mind and body to a higher realm of joy daily walking with GirlTrek as a crew leader.

Well, I've never heard about ''open marriage'' before. Here in Mexico, doesn't exist open marriages. I mean, there are marriages who go to swinging parties or make a threesome/foursome with the purpose to experience something different. My position about this, is neutral. On the one hand, marriage is something sacred, even spiritual. It's something composed between two parts. You don't want a third or fourth, etc. taking part of the process, do you?. If you want it, don't get marry, still having an engagement. But, on the other hand, if they're successful or not, I don't know. I've never had a monogamous or open relationship, but I think the main key of the open relationships are COMMUNICATION, but at the same time it depends how much confidence you have to your partner. Greetings from Mexico. I love this show, I learn something different everytime I watch it and It helps me to improve my hearing skills and my english vocabulary.

How can you have a healthy discussion when everyone is basically saying the same thing??? I get what Rashaun is trying to do by swinging the direction of the convo but then she just succumbs to what everyone else is saying... Quad is acting like a corrupt Memphis pastor who says one thing and does the complete opposite. It doesn’t sit well with me when people define something according to them or the Bible as if its the ONLY way. If it doesn’t work for you then cool but you don’t get to define someone else’s marriage or lifestyle
