Having been a member of a cult accidentally in the past, I have set up meetings before attending a new church. Never again will I find myself in another cult. Non-cult leaders understand and are happy to answer questions. Cult leaders won’t understand the questions and will help you to put questions aside. If you go to a cult service, and you decide to just leave, it’s not that easy. If locked doors aren’t the issue, door watchers will be. It’s so much easier and safer to set meetings.

I’m not surprised with what he said, I mean it’s Kody after all, but still it’s super sad for Meri. He didn’t care about the release nor Meri but rather just ranted about Christine leaving him‼️ I’d be super bummed if I were Meri. I don’t particularly care for her personality as I can’t abide indirect people, but she’s right that they technically started that family. Looking at the faces of all three of the women walking towards the church tells a whole lot about Robyn and how she has influenced her children. The serious and sad-looking faces show that she has probably made them as sad, dramatic, and Eeore-like as she is. Lucky Kody. “The legal divorce was Kody’s escape plan” is realized by Meri. We learn the background of Meri's divorce from Kody. Since joining the family, Robyn was talking about a family where the first wife got a legal divorce and the husband legally married the second wife so that he could adopt her kids. Both Janelle and Christine have said that that was a recurring talking point for years from Robyn. Planting the seeds of the plan and waiting for them to take root. They had never heard of a family that did this. It’s called "Chinese Water Torture". Drip. Drip. Drip. Until you cave to stop the drip. I remember Robyn taunting Meri that if anything happened to Robyn, her 3 kids would be removed from the Brown family and returned to their bio-dad. The kids were always Meri's achilles heel. Meri said that they had been talking about the legal divorce for a few years before it happened. Meri knew that her marriage was in bad shape and wanted them to be in a better place before following through with the legal divorce. It didn't get better. The divorce was her 'Hail Mary' to get in Kody's good graces. Kody and Robyn still say that it was all Meri's idea. Kody says that after signing the papers, he and Meri went out to dinner alone, he went back to her place and they had sex. Meri says that is all a lie. The intimacy in their relationship had ended years earlier. A month after the divorce, he went cold. Six months later, he stopped visiting her house at all. (Leon was still living there). Eight months later she first connected with the Catfish.

If you’re talking mass you’re talking Catholic Church, and they are all very similar. They have a set service and opinion doesn’t enter into it. Mainstream Christian, or non-denominational, or Protestant religions all have different ways of viewing the Bible, different priorities. If you’ve been in a church like Catholic, Mormon? Jewish, Orthodox, those churches aren’t ones you would have questions for because for centuries they haven’t changed. More modern churches have splintered and you would be more or less comfortable depending on the answers you may get.

Funny story: My childhood Rabbi through to my early adult years before he was moved, was/is very well known. Mostly for his musical services. I adore him and his family. When I moved up to San Francisco to be with my husband we went to a few synagogues to meet with the Rabbis(husband went to support me he’s not religious,) and this particular place I loved the Rabbi asked who my old one was. When I told him the name he said not only were he and my old Rabbi besties through college and roommate, but their spouses are too 😹❤️ It’s truly a very small world. All the way across the country!

In Judaism, we have a marriage contract called a Katubah which is signed privately with the rabbi and a few witnesses before the actual ceremony. We also need to get a religious divorce called a Get. I do not recall that, but it does not surprise me. I do remember Robyn having a major crying jag-WITHOUT tears as usual---she was going on saying if the Brown 13 didn't accept her kids into the family and weren't "nice" to them at all times, the kids could elect to go live w bio dad....she guilted the Brown 13 into several things like this. From what I remember, the Brown 13 were nice and they did try to welcome her 3 kids into the fold...but they also weren't going to let Robyn's 3 darlings rule the roost either. I know Gabe really enjoyed Aurora at first...just sibling type of stuff. Kody put a halt to that in short order. Robyn did her best to make Hunter out to be a bully and all- around bad guy.

It’s interesting Robyn is not willing to possibly have the girls go to the LDS church which aligns closer to the AUB beliefs than any of these churches that they are church shopping. Also, if she was so worried about the children going to religious services why did Kody quit doing in-home church, which didn’t require him to step outside his front door. Robyn wasn’t worried about their religious training at that point and forward.

I’m wonder (based off notes to self 444 too,) at this current point if she needed she could easily put her garments back on and be placed with another family. If she joined and went through the hoops ( also cut off family who are living polygamy and leave the show,) to be welcomed to mainstream LDS . Then she’d also have to go through the whole process again to be welcomed back into AUB (where her family still is btw,) if she wanted back or needed to be placed with another family. I can understand not wanting the headache and it’s a big deal to cut your family off.

I find it strange that non of the wives or kids complained of not going to church. Even when Kody held church twice I saw, they all looked bored. For being so into this polygamist religion I didn’t see devotees. I got the kids weren’t interested, but I didn’t see any of the adults bitching about not going.

I love you and this channel. This comment is just an FYI and not a criticism. I left a manipulative. emotionally, and psychologically abusive marriage. Fully accepting that fact took me years. Yes, part of it is accepting my vulnerabilities. But even more so, it is about accepting that my entire reality was a lie and that I will never know the truth. Just had a realization and posting this to my favorite Sister Wives’ analysts!!! Kody put Robyn’s children above his bio kids from the start. Kody is not listed as the father on the birth certificates of Christine’s children (even Truely, who is still a minor). YET… when Robyn’s ex relinquished his parental rights and Kody legally adopted Robyn’s kids, Kody WAS put onto the newly issued birth certificates for Dayton. Aurora and Breanna. I know from experience that when one parent loses parental rights and another steps in to adopt they always issue new birth certificates because Robyn’s ex is no longer the legal father. Which means that Robyn (if she and Kody had divorced) would be protected as the legal wife financially AND her kids would have received child support from Kody legally. Crafty. No wonder Meri finally put the pieces together and no wonder Christine was livid! He put his adoptive kids above his bio kids FROM THE START!!!!

It’s interesting Robyn is not willing to possibly have the girls go to the LDS church which aligns closer to the AUB beliefs then any of these churches that their church shopping. Also, they were so worried about the children going to religious services yet Kody quit doing in-home church, which didn’t require him to step outside his front door. Robyn wasn’t worried about their religious training at that point and forward. Season two episode six she makes a comment about her children, having to go back to their biological father if anything happened to her. This was prior to her wedding.

How much do the girls actually know about the AUB faith if they haven’t experienced church since Utah? And if Robyn were adamant about it, couldn’t they have participated in online services ? Maybe they have. But by now they should know whether they want to be part of the AUB or LDS if they studied their Church history. So since they are reaching out to other Christian denominations, don’t ya think they already have a feel for what they don’t want? Does Robyn really need to steer them or does she just need an “out” of the house without Kody excuse?

I’m rewatching Big Love and given everything I’ve learned over the years here and watching SW, I see so much of the Brown’s dynamics in these characters. Notes to self 444 added that they both knew who the characters were in real life. Interestingly, some of the “odder” part of the family, lived on a compound in Montana like where Robbem and Baldylocks were raised. It’s So sad how these kids grew up in such poverty and ignorance.

According to note to self 444, Robin did grow up in the AUB. She went to Aub church. Her first marriage was to an aub member. Her bio dad did marry a second wife before her mother left. It is not uncommon for wives to live far apart from aka in other states from each other. Robyn grew up in a trailer park with a whole bunch of other children who parents were married to polygamist men. I do believe she and Kody planted the seed in Meri’s head about the divorce. She’s just not lying about knowing other polygamous women. Women in that church are taught as small children that polygamy is an ideal way to live and a way to get to heaven to become a God yourself. She still has the idea of the dream actually becoming a reality. A huge thing you need to remember is Christianity and Mormonism are not the same religion. If you only know the Mormon faith, a Christian church is gonna seem very odd to you. As Christian, we are not told that we’re going to go to heaven and become gods and goddesses of our own planets. There’s so many different rules in Mormonism that will seem foreign to a regular Christian. Comparing Mormonism to Christianity is like comparing apple to an orange.

I truly believe that Kody has gotten to the point where he might even doubt that there really is a God. If you listen to him closely you can tell he’s losing his faith at everything. Which is common in the Mormon church. If you lose your faith in Mormon beliefs then you lose your belief in every belief. Robyn still believes in the aub being the one and true church. it truly is complicated on what they actually believe. If you listen closely they believe Jesus was once a human like us, who became a God. It is not the same as the Christian Bible. They are promised that they will become gods and goddesses and become their own Jesus like Savior of their planets.
