Depends on how dark the grey is that you start from - grey seer is a really light grey - similarly corax white is a really good base paint! If you have a look at my white scars tutorial, you can see a different way of painting white armour

@@ThePaintingCoach Hey so I started painting, just one question, what should the ratio of paint to water be for my white paints? I'm used to Necrons (lots of metallic paints) and I heard yellow and white are hard to work with. Any tips for the consistency of my paints?
@ThePaintingCoach4 жыл бұрын
@@samvortex2802 I'd say around 2:1 paint:water and it really depends on the type of paint (eg base paits are thicker) and what kind of palette you are using. Corax white from the pot is very thick so I do that at a 1:1 ratio water and paint. It also has great coverage. Yellow and white can be complicated - i've tried to simplify them in this video and my imperial fist video. In this video for example I have relied entirely on the primer. And with yellow, a lighter primer again is a god send! I hope that helps!

Winsor & Newton Series 7 are amazing brushes but they are somewhat fragile. They require care to last. If your rough on your brushes I would look at other Winsor brushes. I really enjoy the Cotman watercolor brushes, they work well, somewhat durable, and inexpensive to replace.
@ThePaintingCoach4 жыл бұрын
I've found W&N to be the most durable of the 'premium' brushes. A little masters brush soap goes a long way! Thanks for the tip - I'll see if i can find any to try!

Hey I was just wondering - how would you do this now that Corax White has been replaced with a pure-white primer?
@ThePaintingCoach Жыл бұрын
You can use the white scar primer - will still work - you'll just need to use the pot version of white scar to cover any mistakes 👍🏻

I'm looking forward to painting my new Sisters using this scheme! I know this video is old but have a question if you have the time. Since Corax White spray has been discontinued, should I just prime them in only White Scar? Should I still use Grey Seer first and then White Scar? Or should I use Grey Seer and airbrush Corax White. Also can you explain what you mean by 'spray at 45 degrees'? Thank you.
@ThePaintingCoach6 ай бұрын
White scar over grey seer will be fine - by 45 degrees I mean to essentially spray your mini only from above so you keep the darker colours in the recesses

Great tutorial and just what I was looking for! Thanks for making this. The white looks great, any chance you could explain the base coat process? I wasn't sure what the two spray 45 degree angle technique was.
@ThePaintingCoach4 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot - I appreciate the feedback! In terms of priming, prime the whole model with grey seer, then take a can of corax white and spray down at a 45 degree angle - if you imagine the mini being the vertical and the base a horizontal axis. This means that you only catch the top parts so you create some natural shadow - hope that helps - if you're still not sure then have a look at zenithal priming

Hello, i'm really late to the party but I had some questions as to how you started. I saw in your description that you use an Airbrush and compressor. When you said you started with a coat of grey seer, then Corax White. Did you use a grey spray can primer? Then Airbrush Corax white as a base coat? Or did you use both cans of spray for the grey and white and forgo the Airbrush?
@ThePaintingCoach11 ай бұрын
Spray can of both. You can no longer get corax white so use white scar instead 👍🏻
@angelskyd11 ай бұрын
@@ThePaintingCoach Excellent thank you. I did want to get into Airbrushing. I used to do it when I was in highschool, now nearly 30 years later I wanted to start again. I assume you used spray cans for both the grey and white base, to be efficient and quick as Airbrushing a base coat would be more time consuming. Does Citadel make paints that can be used in an airbrush? Or is it all spray cans and brush stuff?
@ThePaintingCoach11 ай бұрын
Yes I used cans - citadel do air paints - although a little tamyia x20a thinner or even water can be used to thin the normal pots as well 😁

My wife and I are painting the Battle Sisters and primed them with Wraithbone. Looking to do a light blue/white/gold scheme. Do you think the Wraithbone primer would be okay to work with? Thank you!!
@ThePaintingCoach4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for leaving a comment! It depends on what paints you plan to use. If you use normal base and layer paints, you won't really notice a difference. If you use contrast paints, then you'll generally get a warmer tone to them than you would with grey seer and corax white. That being said, wraithbone will be absolutely fine, and your scheme sounds really interesting!

Very nice tutorial, but can I ask why go through the agony of working the white around the other colours like that? Surely applying the Contrast paint and drybrushing/edge highlighting the white before adding any other colours would have been easier?
@ThePaintingCoach4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! For me i did the white last to make sure that i'm not having to go back and fix mistakes You can definitely do it the way you described - it might be more difficult to fix any mistakes you make later on, as you will have built up lots of different textures and layers

what does it mean to psray at a 45 degreee angle. what angle
@ThePaintingCoach Жыл бұрын
Imagine two lines on the mini - one going directly vertical from the head and one going directly horizontal from the base. This is a right angle that contains 90 degrees - if you then connect the ends of the vertical and horizontal lines, 45 degrees will be in the middle of this new line By spraying at this angle, you will catch the uppermost facing surfaces, leaving shadow in the recesses and brighter areas facing the light
