Hi! I love your videos and your techniques are so amazing! Have you ever done a video on bathing? I just gave my 18 weeks old puppies their first bath and it was a challenge for sure but I tried to think ahead of what might be scary and used treats but I really want to make sure that have a positive association with bath times.
@kikopup4 жыл бұрын
No I havent but I should! Ive not bathed my pup yet :) Putting a comfortable non slip surface in the area you bathe the dog and teaching them to want to stand in there with no water at first is a great idea. A lot of dogs are worried about being in a tub or a slippery surface. You can then add a small amount of warm water so the dog is geting in or being put in if that has to happen into just enough warm water to make the mat warm. Then take the dog out. Using cold water... is much much harder to train. My bcs love a cold bath in the summer but in the winter, I attach the yard hose inside to the hot water so its nice warm water I bathe them with. For sporty dogs, I let them play with the hose water as the first way of initiating the bathing process.

Emily this is off topic but I'm wondering how you decided on the carpet color for filming. LOL I'm trying to get my own set up going but I'm not sure how to determine my criteria for color! Any help is appreciated! and OF COURSE I love your videos and training techniques, you have long been a favorite of mine.
@kikopup2 жыл бұрын
Something that is not the same color as your dogs or the clothes you wear. If you have a white dog dont choose white or it makes your dogs look yellow or dirty.

Love this video. What treat pouch do you use? Also, I was training my dog outside on a long line and a stray cat came out of nowhere. It surprised both of us, and my dog ran after it. He's fine (I was very frustrated and tried to not get mad at him), but I want to know what to do after that happens. Do I stop that training session, keep going, or what?

Sometimes dogs get distracted just like we do when learning. The best thing to do is take a break and then begin with something easy, rather than trying to get back to the same level you were at. I suggest moving to a different location, allowing the dog to do some checking out of the environment and then you could start with something easy like eye contact or just moving toward you. If the dogs eyes are flickering away from you, then you dont really want to be training anything, and just wait for another time. And this is the treat pouch www.amazon.com/Doggone-Good-Reward-Directly-Manufacturer/dp/B00UXM2HBK/ref=sr_1_2?crid=IX86KS5PNOVO&dchild=1&keywords=doggone%2Bgood%2Btreat%2Bpouch&qid=1590165941&sprefix=doggone%2Bgo%2Caps%2C210&sr=8-2&th=1#ace-9766277718

Can you describe a typical day for training a new puppy? How long should each session be? How many sessions a day? When is the best time to start a session(before/after a meal)?

Hello! How do you prevent the puppy from pawing you while training ?
@kikopup3 жыл бұрын
I suggest practicing using food from further away and mark and reinforce the puppy for following you without liking biting jumping or trying to paw, and then hold the treat closer kzbin.info/www/bejne/oKi0l4prab6bbtU

As soon as my puppy knows there's a treat in my hand he just starts nipping to get at it, if he smells the scent of food I've got for training in my pockets he goes for the pocket, nipping at my pants. I struggle to distract him with a toy as he'd rather bite my clothes or my hand and arms and it hurts 😭 If I try and disengage from the training to wait for him to calm down he'll just keep going for my pants and follow me around or jump on me if I'm in the for with him. Help. Yours sincerely a new Sprocker owner.

Clickers are annoying.
@kikopup4 жыл бұрын
Honestly, my older chihuahua started going deaf and developed an aversion to the clicker so I stopped using them to train with, then I had my puppy Halo, and he just didnt seem to be learning as fast as I am usually able to teach... and I got out the clicker (by this time my chihuahua had become completely deaf) and suddenly I was back on track in days. To each their own. If the clicker is frustrating and annoying don't use it, but if it speeds up your training then go for it. I like to use the clicker for very specific behaviors myself, but use them in all my videos because I can talk to the dog and talk to the audience simultaneously. Also when teaching classes and seminars, I can talk and train at the same time, when you use a marker word, you have to stop mid sentence to mark the dog. If that makes sense?
