In this episode of "Sit and Knit for a Bit on a Sunday we dive into another podcast session filled with fun and anecdotes. Having started during the pandemic, our podcast has been going strong for four years now, bringing you discussions about our daily lives in the mountains of Norway, along with some knitting and crochet content.🤩
If you're new here, welcome! While our name might suggest we're all about knitting, we actually cover a wide range of topics, including travel, gardening, and even storytelling. Throughout our journey, we've received incredible support from our audience, especially during challenging times like the lockdowns, which helped us feel connected despite being physically apart.
Join us as we reminisce about our past experiences, from our radio adventures to our journey as designers and authors. Plus, we'll take a closer look at Arne's ongoing knitting project-a mysterious sweater with a unique construction that continues to puzzle us.
Amidst all the chaos of renovations and projects, we find solace in the simple joys of enjoying the outdoors during a rare Norwegian heatwave. So grab your knitting needles, settle in, and let's Sit and Knit for a Bit!

❤ What a lovely sunday with you two! Oh, Arne! In first grade, I made a drawing with birds. The teacher said I’d drawn them incorrectly. I explained they were flapping their wings because they were flying. She told me that I would never be an artist. I went on to get 2 Art degrees and fulfilled my dreams of working in an art museum as a curatorial assistant for 12 yrs., and was a college art instructor for 10 yrs. Follow your dreams and never let anyone deprive you of your joy! ❤

Oh dear Arne! You have to write that story. My heart hurt so when you describe waiting for your name to be called. I so understand how you felt. How you never got your words back. And how you fought back by writing “stupid” things. Because they did not deserve your best. I hope you don’t feel that way anymore. I feel very lucky that I am able to read your words, hear your voice and marvel at your creativity. Thank you for sharing your marvelous self!

I enjoy your stories. Grateful your creativity was not diminished by a disappointing teacher. You both give us so much inspiration and teach us how to give new life to antiques and clothing!! I do remember the turtleneck. Despite the tone of the extra yarn, it's still a wonderful treat for us and giving life to a current sweater! Excited to see your new views from the extension. The chaos you describe is something I connect with, and anyone that's preparing for a move or mid-renovation.

So sorry about your childhood experience with your written chapter story, Arne.... sometimes teachers can be so harsh and clueless! My similar experience was in highschool (grade 11) when I took a sewing class. I was a novice and had never made anything, so struggled with simple things in class. For our end of term project, we had to submit a piece we'd worked on and completed at home. I chose a dress with long sleeves and a zipper and struggled immensely working on my own; my mom had no sewing experience, so no advice or help was available to me. On the final night before it was due, I stayed up all night struggling to put in my first zipper and all the finishing touches with only the pattern instructions to guide me. A lot of ripping out and tears, but when the sun came up it was finished. I, like you, felt proud of my accomplishment. The teacher asked me to stay after when class ended and asked me point blank who made the dress--- she wouldn't believe that I had made it on my own. I assured her that I had done it all on my own, but she never relented in her thinking that I was lying. I don't remember what grade I got, but a friend liked the dress so much that I gave it to her! She wore it a lot....my seams, hems and stitchings all stayed together just fine!!

I had those stickers you mentioned. We called them scraps and stuck them in a scrapbook. I had the angels with pink and blue wings, various Father Christmases, flowers, Victorian children, loads of others. Vintage pictures. Something magical about them; I spent ages looking at them as a child. I was also accused of cheating as a child by a teacher. I didn't cheat. So annoying.

Congratulations on getting a second Petite Blythe doll. I have one authentic petite Blythe called kitchen Queen, she is a cute blonde with a tea set, plus a fake called Wilma who I made clothes for. Thank you for keeping me company while I crocheted today.

I have to share with you my latest find. We were caravanning in Victoria, Australia and called into a massive Opshop called The Mill. I was delighted to find a box of vintage sewing treasures which included little hand made holders for scissors, thimbles, pins and tape measures! However the best find was a partially completed hexagonal quilt complete with needles still in place (old dead lady?) plus lots of hexagons in different stages of completion 5:00

I so enjoy your company on Sunday! I am spinning wool for and knitting a shawl that I finally found the pattern for, and love having your chats to engage with so the process doesn’t get tedious. Arne’s delight in everything is so refreshing to me…..I like those little baggies too, and always save them for little collections of things. I’m usually just as charmed by the boxes that gifts come in as I am by the gifts, as well. I’m quite the fire hazard, you can imagine! I can’t get rid of anything because I can always think of a use for it. We’re all dying to get a tour of your new addition, so maybe it will be finished after you get back from England? Hope so!

Fun episode guys. I do love your chats. I absolutely agree no ladders. In my view no one over the age of 50 should climb a ladder. Unfortunately, my husband who is over 50, feels the need to get on the roof from time to time. I hate it. It's only a single storey house but even so, he could do some damage to himself if he fell.

When you held up the six color regia, I looked down and saw that I was wearing socks made from that one! I did a basic fair isle pattern of alternating it with a plain white sock yarn (alternating both rows and columns to get a dot pattern), and it came out with a beautiful misty impressionist look. Also, you can get two socks out of a single ball of it that way. :)

NO LADDERS !! I’m 65 and just fell from a ladder while measuring for a curtain rod onto left heel 3 weeks ago! I had surgery for fractured tongue-type heel fracture. I had just recovered from a 5th metatarsal break ( was knitting, fell asleep, woke up, jumped up, foot asleep, rolled foot. 😢 Same foot ! Ugh. Plus , I’m going on the Grocery Girls/ Joji / Tin Can Knits cruise to Alaska on the 24th this month. I pray I can put weight on it by then but not looking like it. I’m so bummed but I am going with a mobility device ! 😊 SOOOOOO, NO LADDERS !

For evening entertainment u should show one of the “Rosemary and Thyme mysteries. They all take place in one of the famous English gardens. The gardeners always discover a body under some bush they are digging, so fun.❤

It’s interesting to hear there’s an f__k word in Norway that is associated with snow, because it sounds a bit like flocked in English, which is a word that can mean like the fake snow covering on artificial Christmas trees. 🎄Wikipedia tells me flocked in English is more about applying synthetic fibres onto something but it is a curious sound-coincidence! ❄️

Omg your writing story was kinda sad, but i think the fact your teacher thought you plagiarized a published book obviously spoke volumes. You are a talented writer at such a young age. If I was your teacher, after finding out your parents didn't have books, I would've encouraged your writing. That was an amazing story. Maybe write your memoirs. Just a thought. I would read it if released in English. Both of you have lived such interesting lives, but maybe im partial because I am such an eager student of yours.❤

I totally agree about the accusation speaking volumes! He was already writing like a true author!
