Uff da Jeff, you always bring us amazing stories. And your opinions always seem to mirror my own.---Development around historical sites often holds no sentimentality towards those sites...old is just old. In my town, the ruins of the first mission, destroyed by a massive earthquake and forcing the priests to relocate farther out of town, have slowiy been incorporated into the towns development. Not much left to see, but with markers letting visitors know what to look for. Imagine, one house incorporated their back fence in a ruined wall of the mission. It's now covered in ivy.
