My buddy got a 79 Cutlass as his 1st car. 231 V6, 2.30ish :1 diff. He bought a 71 4 door Malibu, built the 350/350 engine/trans. He put the drivetrain and entire suspension from the Malibu in the Cutlass. With those gears it would spin each tire a full turn or so and then pull like hell to 60mph when it would shift into 2nd. Top speed was over 150. He built the engine for torque with an Erson cam that redlined at 4200rpm. Wild ride! Edit: check the torque converter bolts. The front seat out of the Malibu became the perfect couch in front of my home stereo with some 2×4s and a cover.
